  • Patent number: 10219936
Abstract: An apparatus for delivering therapeutic agent to an eye comprises a body, a cannula, a hollow needle, a cannula actuation assembly, and a needle actuation assembly. The cannula extends distally from the body and is sized and configured to be insertable between a choroid and a sclera of a patient's eye. The cannula actuation assembly is operable to actuate the cannula relative to the body. The needle actuation assembly is operable to actuate the needle relative to the cannula. The cannula may be inserted through a sclerotomy to position a distal end of the cannula at a posterior region of the eye, between the choroid and sclera. The needle may be advanced through the choroid to deliver the therapeutic agent adjacent to the potential space between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium layer, adjacent to the area of geographic atrophy.

  • Patent number: 10219941
Abstract: A system for conducting a vitrectomy includes: a gas source; a vitrector including a cutting mechanism that opens and closes according to a pressure at the vitrector; and a pulse-generating system receiving gas from the gas source and generating pulses at the vitrector. The pulses cause the pressure at the vitrector to vary according to a cycle, and the varying pressure at the vitrector causes the cutting mechanism of the vitrector to open and close. At a first time in the cycle, the pulse-generating system, raises the pressure at the vitrector to a maximum pressure. At a second time in the cycle, the pulse-generating system reduces the pressure at the vitrector to a minimum pressure that is greater than ambient, the pressure at the vitrector being maintained at least at the minimum pressure. The difference between the maximum pressure and minimum pressure is minimized to reduce gas consumption.

  • Patent number: 10219943
Abstract: A method for treating glaucoma with an implantable glaucoma device includes inserting a hollow elongated needle into the eye between the cornea and iris and into the anterior chamber of the eye to form a needle tract in the eye, introducing a distal end of a guidewire through the needle and into the anterior chamber, introducing a snare through a corneal incision into the anterior chamber. The snare has a sheath and a hook or loop inside the sheath and extendible therefrom. The method includes capturing a segment of the guidewire proximate the distal end of the guidewire with the snare within the anterior chamber, removing the needle from over the guidewire outside of the eye, coupling a glaucoma drainage device to a proximal end of the guidewire that extends outside of the eye, and pulling on the captured guidewire segment with the snare to pull the glaucoma drainage device into the needle tract and into the anterior chamber of the eye until the glaucoma device is located in an implanted position in the eye.

  • Patent number: 10219948
Abstract: An ophthalmic laser treatment system and method providing for a liquid optical interface (LOI) with a patient eye surface (PES) using an elliptical ocular suction ring (OSR) is disclosed. A disposable ocular patient interface (OPI) provides for simultaneous differential vacuum mating of the PES, OSR, OPI, and an optical window retainer (OWR). The PES, OSR, OPI, and OWR form an enclosed volume in which liquid may be interjected to cover the PES during laser treatment. A vacuum suction pump (VSP) provides controlled vacuum to the OPI ensuring proper differential vacuum mating (DVM) between the PES, OSR, OPI, and OWR during laser treatment. The OWR connects to a laser objective bracket (LOB) via an ocular force sensor (OFS) and an optical separator bracket (OSB). The OFS senses applied pressure to the PES and provides data to a computerized control device (CCD) that limits applied pressure to the PES during laser treatment.

  • Patent number: 10219953
Abstract: A binder layer for a laminated wound dressing is brought into contact with a sheet coated with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet. As the binder layer is in contact with the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, a series of closed-loop cuts are made in the binder layer. The closed-loop cuts are made in such a way that the material enclosed by each closed loop is substantially physically separated from the remainder of the binder layer. Then the binder layer is moved away from the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, so that the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are no longer in contact. When the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are moved apart, the material enclosed in the closed-loop cuts—i.e., the cut waste fragments—are retained on the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, ensuring that the binder layer includes a series of cleared perforations.

  • Patent number: 10219954
Abstract: A medical compression garment is provided including a midline opening cut in a medial segment of the elastic garment, dividing its front fabric portion into first and second sections. Fasteners, such as hook-and-loop fasteners, are attached to the first and second sections which connect together to close the opening. Pulls may be included. To don the garment, a wearer places their legs into the garment and pulls the garment along the legs until its top is aligned with the groin. The wearer then inverts and pulls the first and second sections of the garment together and fastens them to close the opening. Afterwards, the wearer pulls up the garment until it reaches the waist. When the wearer subsequently wants to take off the garment, the wearer unfastens the first and second sections and pull the garment down from the waist. The garment thus facilitates the donning and removal process.

Abstract: A spa is provided that includes: a basin; a motor having a shaft defining a rotation axis; a hub mounted to the shaft, the hub having North and South pole domains spaced apart from each other and arranged to encircle the rotation axis in alternating relation; and an impeller which is disposed in the basin in axially spaced relation to the hub and is at least substantially constrained against movement but for rotation about the axis, the impeller including a rotor body of a non-magnetic, electrically-conductive material having relatively low magnetic permeability. The improvement in which is that there are lights and coils coupled to the impeller for rotation therewith, the lights and coils being coupled and adapted such that, in use, the rotating magnetic fields associated with the drive hub created induced currents in the coils which actuate the lights and create a net force that rotates the impeller.

Abstract: An acupuncture device can include a frame, an enclosure disposed on the frame to protect the frame, multiple stimulators mounted on the frame. The stimulators can be electrically coupled with a controller that transmits electric pulses to the stimulators for electro-acupuncture purpose. The size of the frame is adjustable to fit different body sizes of the users. The stimulators can be carried by the adjustment of the frame. The acupuncture device can also include one or more position references and the stimulators are positioned at relative distances from the position references. When the size of the frame is adjusted, the stimulators are carried by the frame to new positions that are at relative distances from the position references in proportionality with the extent of adjustment of the frame. Hence, the relative distance between a stimulator and a position reference in light of the size of the frame is maintained.
