Abstract: A device for providing a fiducial marker(s) within or near a target tissue (e.g. nodule, tumor or other) within a patient. The present teachings provide a device with a handle device, a catheter with a distal end and a proximal end coupled to the handle device, a needle slidably received within the catheter, a stylet slidably received within the needle and a fiducial marker received within the needle. The needle includes a distal end and a proximal end coupled to the handle device. The stylet includes a distal end and a proximal end coupled to the handle device. The fiducial marker includes a proximal end and a distal end. The fiducial marker is in a first shape state inside the needle. The fiducial marker transitions from the first shape state to a second shape state upon expulsion from the distal end of the needle. The distal end of the stylet is in mechanical communication with the proximal end of the fiducial marker when the proximal end of the fiducial marker remains within the needle.

Abstract: According to various implementations, a dental cleaning device includes a steam conduit and a cooling fluid conduit. The steam conduit has a distal tip with an opening defined therein that allows steam to be applied intraorally close to a dental implant to flush away bacteria that has colonized on or adjacent the dental implant. The cooling fluid conduit has a distal tip with an opening defined therein that allows a cooling fluid to be applied intraorally close to the dental implant following the application of the steam to cool the tissue and prevent overheating of the tissue and bone adjacent the dental implant. For example, the cooling fluid may be applied intermittently with the steam, or the cooling fluid may be applied continuously while the steam is applied intermittently, according to various implementations.

Abstract: A pulp chamber dental spacer constructed of cold water soluble material, which may include portions of polyvinyl alcohol, to protect the pupal floor of a pulp chamber from a drilled hole following a root canal treatment or procedure. The spacer may be spherical or cubical in shape and that protects the pupal floor by providing a solid “space” for a practitioner to feel the end of a temporary filing such that the drill does not descend to and possibly damage the sensitive pupal floor. The dissolvable material preferably is non-linting, thereby providing for complete removal and preventing the “wicking” of contaminated salivary fluids and causing coronal damage.

Abstract: A processing device determines two or more adjacent teeth in a virtual model, the two or more adjacent teeth include a first tooth adjacent to a second tooth in the virtual model. The processing device inserts a first virtual filler in the virtual model between the first tooth and the second tooth. The processing device selects points in the virtual model. A processing device transforms the plurality of points into a voxel volume comprising a plurality of voxels. A processing device performs a smoothing operation on the voxel volume. A processing device subsequent to performing the smoothing operation on the voxel volume, determines a geometry of an updated virtual filler by transforming a surface of the smoothed voxel volume into a polygonal mesh.

Abstract: Anatomically shaped augments that are configured for implantation in a bone and which have one or more reliefs. A distal end of an outer portion of the augment can have a shape that is configured to generally conform to the shape of a metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction of an intramedullary canal of a bone. A proximal end of the outer portion can have a shape that is configured to generally conform to a shape of the metaphyseal region of the intramedullary canal. The reliefs can be configured to reduce a size of the augment and enhance the degree of freedom in the implant positioning and/or sizing of the augment. Further, such reliefs may contour the augment so as to prevent cortical bone contact and/or prevent contact with the implant device that may be associated with misalignment between an intramedullary canal and metaphyseal or diaphyseal regions of the bone.

Abstract: Provided are improved hip prosthetic devices that reduce the risk of hip dislocation upon performing artificial hip replacement. The improved hip prosthetic devices comprise a flexible bumper configured to extend from the acetabular component and prevent contact between the femoral neck and the acetabular component. The bumper may be an acetabular capsule inserted in collaboration with a standard hip prosthetic device, and attached to a standard acetabular liner. The capsule has a bumper region that cushions contact between the femoral neck and the acetabular component, thereby preventing impingement and dislocation, both common in patients in which known hip prosthetic devices are used. Alternatively, an improved acetabular liner comprises an integral bumper which prevents impingement of the femoral neck and acetabular components, thereby reducing dislocation risk and securing the femoral head within the acetabular liner.

Abstract: The present invention provides a fused femoral stem system, including a curved short handle, a fixing mechanism and a femoral head prosthesis, one end of the curved short handle is provided with a conical connector, the conical connector is cooperatively connected with a conical connecting hole of the femoral head prosthesis, the other end of the curved short handle is inserted from the osteotomy surface of the femoral neck and stretches to the position of a medullary cavity below a small trochanter, and the curved short handle is connected and fixed with a large trochanter through the fixing mechanism. The present invention has the beneficial effects that, after the growing-in osseointegration with the sclerotin surrounding the proximal bone bed of the host after the surgery of the whole system, the mechanical influence on the retained femoral neck and the sclerotin in the vicinity of the large and small trochanters is substantially similar to the biomechanical state prior to the surgery.

Abstract: Methods of selecting and implanting prosthetic devices for use as a replacement meniscus are disclosed. The selection methods include a pre-implantation selection method and a during-implantation selection method. The pre-implantation selection method includes a direct geometrical matching process, a correlation parameters-based matching process, and a finite element-based matching process. The implant identified by the pre-implantation selection method is then confirmed to be a suitable implant in the during-implantation selection method. In some instances, the during-implantation selection method includes monitoring loads and/or pressures applied to the prosthetic device and/or the adjacent anatomy. In some instances, the loads and/or pressures are monitored by a trial prosthetic device comprising one or more sensors. Methods of implanting meniscus prosthetic devices are also disclosed.
