  • Patent number: 10317074
Abstract: A hand-held, disposable incinerator for medications and electronic storage media includes a body and a lid, a layer of insulation, and a chemical burn agent, which on ignition produces both heat and oxygen to destroy the contents. Exhaust gases pass through a non-combustible filter to remove most solid particles and contaminants, followed by a second, higher-efficiency filter. Hot gases exiting from the incinerator then desirably ignite again from their own heat, consuming remaining volatile organic matter distilled from the items being destroyed. An igniter, which may be a fuse, a pull-tab-activated pyrotechnic delay or an electronically remote-triggered igniter, provides a delay for the safety of the person using the incinerator. Heat generated within the burn chamber decomposes most organic materials, melts soft metals including aluminum and electronic solder, and renders data storage devices unreadable. At least an inner portion of the device may be safely discarded.

  • Patent number: 10317076
Abstract: A system for controlling activity in a combustion chamber. The system does not necessarily need to be mechanically adjusted and yet may provide precise control of a fuel air mixture ratio. A sensing module of the system may have a mass flow sensor that relates to air flow and another sensor that relates to fuel flow. Neither sensor may need contact with fuel. Fuel and air to the system may be controlled. Pressure of the fuel and/or air may be regulated. The sensors may provide signals to a processor to indicate a state of the fuel and air in the system. The processor, with reliance on a programmed curve, table or the like, often based on data, in a storage memory, may regulate the flow or pressure of the fuel and air in a parallel fashion to provide an appropriate fuel-air mixture to the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 10317084
Abstract: An air swirler has a radially outer wall bounding an annular passage. The radially outer wall has an axially extending portion and a radially convergent portion which converges towards an outlet of the passage. Downstream of the outlet, the passage facing surface of the radially outer wall becomes divergent. The region in which the passage facing surface of the radially outer wall is convergent then divergent defines the flare. A circumferential and axially extending recess is provided in the radially outer wall opposite the flare. A reinforcement of material with superior wear properties to the material of the main body is built in the recess to a radius which coincides with that of the outer surface of the axially extending portion of the radially outer wall. • Patent number: 10317114
Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed to help create longitudinal refrigerant streams, for example, in a shell and tube type evaporator, so as to manage refrigerant and/or lubricant in the evaporator. In some embodiments, the shell side of the evaporator may include a plurality of longitudinally extended pans stacked in a vertical direction. In some embodiments, refrigerant can be directed onto a top pan. The refrigerant can form a longitudinal refrigerant stream along the pan and flow down to the next pan in the vertical direction and form another longitudinal refrigerant stream. Each of the pans may form a refrigerant pool to help exchange heat with a process fluid carried in heat exchanger tubes. By forming longitudinal refrigerant streams in the pans, heat exchange efficiency may be improved and a lubricant content in refrigerant streams may be concentrated toward a bottom of the evaporator.
