Abstract: Methods and systems for image-based guidance in deep-brain stimulation. An endoscope system includes a waveguide tube, a right-angle prism, a light source, and a photoacoustic transducer. Light from the light source propagates along the length of the waveguide tube via internal reflection within the wall. The right-angle prism is positioned to redirect light emitted at a distal end of the waveguide tube in a direction perpendicular to the length of the waveguide tube. Light emitted in the perpendicular direction causes soundwaves to be generated by the surrounding tissue via photoacoustic effect. Those soundwaves are then conducted through the interior channel of the waveguide tube from the distal end of the waveguide tube to a proximal end of the waveguide tube where the soundwaves are detected by the photoacoustic transducer, which is acoustically coupled to the interior channel of the waveguide tube at the proximal end of the waveguide tube.

Abstract: A contact lens includes a lens material and a sensor coupled to the lens material. The sensor is configured to sense a measurable characteristic used to determine an intraocular pressure of an eye to which the contact lens is applied. The sensor can include a variable capacitance sensor configured to change capacitance in response to a mechanical strain of the lens material. The intraocular pressure of the eye can then be correlated to the mechanical strain of the lens material.

Abstract: A complete personal nutrition, health, wellness and fitness monitor is disclosed that captures, monitors, and tracks many relevant health and wellness factors. Image of all consumed items is captured with a three dimensional reference object, matched to reference images in a database in terms of shape, color, size and texture, identified, and the volume of the respective items is determined. In addition, molecular optical fingerprinting of consumable products provides information about actual food composition, including vitamins and contaminants that affect food safety. Using energy and nutrition information of items in another database, full nutritional content and energy is evaluated for all of the items in the image.

Abstract: The invention relates to an augmented reality surgical microscope (1) having a camera (2), preferably a multispectral or hyperspectral camera. The augmented reality surgical microscope (1) retrieves input image data (22) of an object (8) comprising in particular live tissue (10). The input image data (22) comprise visible-light image data (26) as well as fluorescent-light image data (24) of at least one fluorophore (14). The augmented reality surgical microscope (1) permits the automatic identification and marking in pseudo-color (86) of various types of vascular plexus structures (54a 54b, 54c) and/or of blood flow direction (56) depending on the fluorescent-light image data (24). A pre-operative three-dimensional atlas (36) and/or ultrasound image data (39) may be elastically matched to the visible-light image data (26). The augmented reality surgical microscope (1) allows different combinations of the various image data to be output simultaneously to different displays (75).
