Abstract: The present application relates to a monopolar electrode and a bipolar electrode that are used for electrosurgical instruments. The monopolar electrode and the bipolar electrode each include a conductive non-stick coating which is made by doping graphene and/or metal particles in a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) base material. The present application also relates to a preparation method of a composite material forming the conductive non-stick coating. Since PTFE itself can prevent adhesion, the conductivity of PTFE can be improved by doping various conductive materials. After the composite material coating formed thereby covers a metal electrode, it is ensured that the working region and work energy of an electrotome are not reduced, the electrical conductivity of the electrode can be guaranteed, not only the blood coagulation effect of the electrotome is not affected but also the adhesion of the electrode on a tissue can be reduced. Furthermore, the structure is simple, and manufacturing is easy.

The elongated portion extends distally from the handle assembly and defines a longitudinal axis. The end effector is rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the handle assembly. The visualization device defines a visualization axis. A first portion of the visualization device extends through the elongated portion, and a second portion of the visualization device is disposed at least partially within the handle assembly. The visualization device is rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the handle assembly. The constant horizon mechanism is disposed in operative engagement with the visualization device and is configured to prevent the visualization device from rotating about the visualization axis when the visualization device rotates about the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A surgical system and corresponding methods for identifying tissue or vessels and assessing their conditions includes a probing signal source for applying a probing signal to the tissue and a response signal monitor for monitoring a response signal that varies according to the level of blood circulation in the tissue or vessels. The response signal monitor monitors the response signal over an interval equal to or longer than air interval between two successive cardiac contractions. The surgical system includes a microprocessor that analyzes the amplitude and/or phase of the response signal to determine the level of blood circulation in the tissue or in different portions of the tissue, and determines a tissue parameter based upon the level of blood circulation. The surgical system may monitor a cardiac signal related to cardiac contractions and correlate the response signal and the cardiac signal to determine a level of blood circulation in the tissue.

A drive bar is operably coupled to the movable handle such that movement of the movable handle between the initial and compressed positions effects longitudinal translation of the drive bar. The drive bar further includes a coupling member disposed at a distal end thereof. A cam pin is slidably disposed within the cam slot of each of the jaw members. The coupling member is configured to releasably engage the cam pin such that movement of the movable handle between the initial position and the compressed position effects movement of the jaw members between the spaced-apart position and the approximated position.

While (i) the ablation electrode is driving an ablating current into tissue of a subject, and (ii) fluid is passed from the distal end of the intra-body probe at a fluid-flow rate, a processor receives a temperature sensed by the temperature sensor. The processor estimates a temperature of the tissue, based at least on the sensed temperature and at least one parameter selected from the group consisting of: the fluid-flow rate, and a parameter of the ablating current. The processor generates an output in response to the estimated temperature. Other embodiments are also described.
