Included in the present invention are compositions of matter comprised of one or more of diarylalkanes and/or diarylalkanols, which inhibit the activity of binuclear enzymes, particularly tyrosinase and which prevent melanin overproduction. The present invention also provides a method for inhibiting the activity of a binuclear enzyme, particularly tyrosinase and a method for preventing and treating diseases and conditions related to binuclear enzyme function. The present invention further includes a method for preventing and treating melanin overproduction and diseases and conditions of the skin related thereto.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2015Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Assignee: Unigen, Inc.Inventors: Qi Jia, Ji-Fu Zhao

Patent number: 10548828Abstract: The present invention relates to a use of 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose for preventing dental caries. More specifically, 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose inhibits the growth of oral microorganisms and exhibits anti-caries activity to inhibit the production of acids caused by the consumption of a carbon source by the oral microorganisms. Thus, 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose can be used in pharmaceuticals, food products, oral hygiene preparations, etc. for preventing, ameliorating or treating oral diseases caused by oral microorganisms, such as dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, oral mucosal ulcer, halitosis or xerostomia.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2016Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Assignee: Korea University Research and Business FoundationInventors: Kyoung Heon Kim, In-Geol Choi, Eun-Ju Yun, Ah-Reum Lee
