Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for dropping a frac ball, in which a rotating member defines a recess for receiving a single frac ball, and rotates in relation to a stationary member, which may be attached to a wellhead tubular. When the rotating member is rotated into a loading orientation, the recess receives a single frac ball. The frac ball may be gravity fed towards the recess. When the rotating member is rotated into a releasing orientation, the recess is oriented to allow the single one of the frac balls to drop out of the recess. A hydraulic gear and rack assembly actuates rotation of the rotating member. An inlet tube holds multiple frac balls and guides them sequentially, one at a time, into the recess. An outlet tube guides frac balls from the recess towards a desired location, such as an entry guide surrounding the wellhead tubular.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are provided for injecting carrier sleeves into a wellbore. The injection system is capable of individually indexing a selected sleeve from a sleeve magazine into an injector bore and axially aligning the sleeve with the bore with a retaining device. The retaining device prevents a subsequent sleeve from being indexed into the bore from the magazine. The selected sleeve can be restricted from free fall using a staging mechanism, which can subsequently be opened to permit the selected sleeve to fall into a staging bore. The staging bore is then fluidly isolated from the injector bore and the wellbore, pressure in the staging bore is equalized with the wellbore, and then opened to the wellbore for injecting the sleeve into the wellbore. The sleeve can be axially aligned and radially centered with the injector bore using a tapered portion in the bore or the staging mechanism.

Abstract: A system for sealing a region of open hole gravel pack comprising a sealing patch and an installation tool is described. The sealing patch includes a tubular assembly including two expandable anchor/seals and two low melting temperature alloy elements positioned on outside surface of the tubular assembly above the anchor/seals. The system is deployed in desirable location in the well and the tool is operated to set anchor/seals in interference contact with sand-screen. Then the alloy elements are melted to seal the patch. The anchor/seals serve two purposes: they provide a hanging capacity to support the patch in the well and create a “bridge” preventing the molten alloy from freely flowing through the annulus between the tubular assembly and sand screen and focusing the molten alloy at the anchor/seals to flow in radial direction penetrating through the sand-screen and the surrounding proppant sand creating a complete seal.

Abstract: A method for determining along-hole well depth of a wellbore. A value for a calibrated drill string length is calculated, by determining length of drill pipe sections which form a drill string, prior to insertion of the drill pipe sections in the wellbore as part of the drill string. A correction which is calculated based upon one or more physical characteristics of the drill string. At least one of the physical characteristics is derived from measurements made at defined locations in the wellbore when the drill string is under tension whilst being pulled out of the wellbore. The correction to the calibrated drill string length is applied to obtain a value for a corrected drill string length as a measure of along hole depth. Advantageously, by calculating the correction based upon physical characteristics of the drill string associated with the process of pulling the drill string out of the well, the present invention reduces the number of physical characteristics which affect the correction.
