Abstract: A handheld lancing device having anesthetic feature includes a housing removably retaining a disposable lancet. A carriage suspended within the housing by an isolation assembly may receive the lancet. A motor in mechanical communication with the lancet produces vibrations transmitted to contact surface, which vibrate a target lancing site prior to and during piercing. The target site is vibrated for a predetermined period of time before deploying the lancet. The isolation assembly permits movement of the carriage and/or lancet within the housing in one direction while limiting movement in other directions, and further dampens the vibrations of the motor from the housing held by the user. A force sensor detects force applied by the pressing of the contact surface against the skin of the patient. An indicator(s) perceivable to the user identifies when predefined positions of the lancet are reached for initiating vibration then triggering the lancet.

Abstract: A method of characterizing a patient's disordered breathing during a sleeping period includes performing a first partial characterization of a time axis of an audio signal in order to learn the most prominent and highly relevant events. Only at a later stage, i.e., after sufficient observation of the highly relevant events, is a full segmentation of the entire time axis actually carried out. Linear prediction is used to create an excitation signal that is employed to provide better segmentation than would be possible using the original audio signal alone. Warped linear prediction or Laguerre linear prediction is employed to create an accurate spectral representation with flexibility in the details provided in different frequency ranges. A resonance probability function is generated to further characterize the signals in order to identify disordered breathing. An output includes a characterization in any of a variety of forms of identified disordered breathing.

A system and method for the non-apnea sleep arousal detection has been provided. The method uses a feature engineering based binary classification approach for distinguishing non-apnea arousal and non-arousal. A training data set is prepared using a plurality of physiological signals. A plurality of features are derived from the training data set. Out of those only a set of features are selected for training a plurality of random forest classifier models. A test sample is then provided to the plurality of random forest classifier models in the instances of fixed duration. This results in generation of prediction probabilities for each instances. The prediction probabilities are then used to predict the probabilities of non-apnea sleep arousal in the test sample.

Abstract: Aspects presented herein are directed to techniques for eliminating acquisition related artifacts in electro-physiological recording. In order to eliminate artifacts in neural response recordings, a pair of recordings is made with, respectively, inverted and non-inverted polarity at one pair of electrodes. An the average of the two recordings will eliminate the acquisition artifact without the need for an extra recording, such as a baseline.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for displaying a blood pressure monitoring instrument reading along with inaccuracy values that vary over apparatus life and according to current operating conditions are disclosed. These inaccuracy values account for variability under different operating environments, over time and number of device measurement cycles, and across the range of possible instrument reading conditions. Determination of inaccuracy values may be based both on apparatus history and measurement under the current operating condition. Methods can further include informing a user of confidence in the instrument's current measurements based on the instrument's measurements and inaccuracy.

Abstract: A magnetic resonance (MR) imaging device (10) repeatedly executes a navigator pulse sequence (40) to generate navigator data in image space as a function of time, and a motion signal (44) of an anatomical feature that moves with a physiological cycle (e.g. respiration) as a function of time is extracted from the navigator data. A concurrent physiological signal (16) as a function of time is generated by a physiological monitor (12, 14) concurrently with the repeated execution of the navigator pulse sequence. A gating time offset (50) is determined by comparing the motion signal of the anatomical feature as a function of time and the concurrent physiological signal as a function of time. The MR imaging device performs a prospective or retrospective gated MR imaging sequence (36) using gating times defined as occurrence times of gating events detected by the physiological monitor modified by the gating time offset.
