  • Patent number: 10602719
Abstract: An animated squeaky pet toy provides an animated, chewable pet toy that emits a squeaky sound when compressed from multiple directions and pressures due to an alternating pattern of accordion and bulbous sections. An elongated compressible inner chamber provides a generally elongated body portion having an alternating pattern of at least one accordion section and at least one bulbous section. The accordion section includes multiple folds that produce air flow when pulled or compressed laterally. The bulbous section increases the diameter of the body portion, and can be compressed axially and diagonally to produce air flow. The compressible inner chamber includes a pair of ends having an aperture. A reed passes through each aperture. The reed vibrates to produce a squeaky sound when air flow passes through either aperture. Abstract: The present invention is in the field of fermentation, and pertains to a method for preparing yogurt by fermentation, comprising the steps of providing a fermentation starter culture comprising a selected microorganism in a suitable culture medium, adding a potato protein protease inhibitor to the culture medium, culturing the microorganism, and harvesting the yogurt. This method has the advantage that the lag time of fermentation can be reduced by the addition of relatively low amounts of potato protein protease inhibitor. It has the additional advantage that the potato protein protease inhibitor allows for application of the present method over a wide pH range and wide temperature range including pasteurization, is filter sterilizable and that potato protease inhibitor protein is non-allergenic.

  • Patent number: 10602754
Abstract: A fruit snack with probiotics that is stable at room temperature is manufactured by combining various ingredients including fruit juices/purees to produce a slurry and cooking the slurry to produce a center that contains a high moisture content. The fruit snack center is covered with a barrier layer which in turn is covered by an outer layer that contains heat sensitive ingredients, such as probiotic cultures. The barrier layer substantially prevents migration of moisture from the center to the outer layer, and the fruit snack is cooled prior to applying the outer layer to minimize damage/harm to the heat sensitive ingredients. In addition to including probiotic cultures and being stable at room temperature, the fruit snack has other desirable characteristics including a chewy soft texture and fruit-flavorings, and may be manufactured using traditional processes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process of extracting native proteins from vegetable source materials such as oilseeds, legumes and grains. Native proteins mentioned in this invention are present in the source material in their non-denatured state, i.e. with their functional properties relevant to application in food industry like solubility preserved and not compromised by processing conditions. Source materials mentioned in the present invention are of vegetable origin and typically contain significant (>5% by weight) amounts of native oils and lipids. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out this process and to the native protein obtainable by the process of the invention.
