Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are presented for securing a railroad tie atop a support. In one implementation, a unitary length of metal rod is made into a clip that includes a vertical leg, a horizontal leg, and a resilient hook-shaped portion having a hook point. The hook-shaped portion is made so that the clip is biased toward a seated position, with the hook point positioned beneath part of the support. During installation, the vertical leg is placed through a hole in the railroad tie, driven downward until the resilient hook-shaped portion collapses into a compressed position, and driven further until the hook point moves beyond a free edge of the support and expands into the seated position. The clip secures the railroad tie without any additional parts and without requiring a worker to labor beneath the support.

The system includes one or more mobile attenuators that receive data indicating a need for deployment from one or more sensors. The one or more mobile attenuators perform a collision risk assessment on the received data to determine a probability of a potential vehicle collision. The one or more mobile attenuators determine the probability of the potential vehicle collision exceeds a predetermined risk threshold value. The one or more mobile attenuators determine a predicted location for the potential vehicle collision. The one or more mobile attenuators proceed to the predicted location to mitigate the potential vehicle collision.

Abstract: A method for an ex-situ carbonization and solidification of silt soil using an active magnesium oxide, pertaining to the field of civil and hydraulic engineering. The method includes the steps of silt pretreatment, homomixing of solidifying agents, silt granulation, carbonization by carbon dioxide, exhaust gas/waste liquid collection, and resource utilization. In the method, the supply amount of the solidifying agent is adjusted through the actual measurement of the moisture content, and the granule size and carbon dioxide pressure are adjusted according to the soil properties. Therefore, a full mixing of the silt with the solidifying agents and a rapid carbonization of the magnesium oxide solidified silt granules can be achieved. Moreover, the dust and carbon dioxide can be absorbed during the operation, thereby avoiding secondary pollution. The silt carbonized granules can be used as filling materials for roadbeds, airport runways, engineering backfills, etc.

Abstract: A joist tie may be designed to increase the strength of the joist tie and reduce the thickness of the joist tie, in order to provide the desired strength and the ability to make connections that operatively couple structural decking, the joist tie, and joists together using a single connector in one or more locations. The joist tie may be strengthened through the use of one or more ribs and/or one or more flanges. The one or more ribs may be formed to fit within one or more cavities within adjacent joists located in series. As such, the shape of the joist tie may be dimensioned in order to allow the joist tie to be placed on a first joist and a second joist without having to be attached until after assembly of the structural decking on top of the joist tie and joists.

Abstract: Methods and processes for depositing a fire resistant barrier on a construction material involve coating exposed webbing of, for instance, an I-joist with a fire-resistant material using a wetting layer and a thickening layer. A time period between depositing the wetting layer and thickening layer is controlled to facilitate complete wetting of the exposed webbing. Filler such as fiberglass may be included in the thickening layer. The wetting and thickening layers may be deposited on the webbing in the same application. The construction material, such as the I-joist, may then be subjected to a curing treatment and additional curing period followed by coating the second side using a similar methodology.

Abstract: The present invention is a reliable and simple to install device for protecting of passages for utilities in roof structures from the entry of adverse effect outdoor weather elements. The device is composed of: a flexible tube component (FTC), a surface insertion tube component (SITC), a surface connection plate component (SCPC) and a SCPC-connecting paste component. FTC is composed of a hallow semi-flexible tube having one side unconnected and the other side firmly connected to the SITC, forming a continues tube. The SITC is composed of a rigid hallow tube divided into two portions by the SCPC. The SCPS is composed of a perforated, rigid material, perpendicularly fixated to and around the SITC, In installing the device of the present invention, the SCPC-connecting paste component is smeared on the external surface of a roof structure surrounding the passage for utilities.
