Patent number: 10646871Abstract: A microfluidic device can comprise at least one swept region that is fluidically connected to unswept regions. The fluidic connections between the swept region and the unswept regions can enable diffusion but substantially no flow of media between the swept region and the unswept regions. The capability of biological micro-objects to produce an analyte of interest can be assayed in such a microfluidic device. Biological micro-objects in sample material loaded into a microfluidic device can be selected for particular characteristics and disposed into unswept regions. The sample material can then be flowed out of the swept region and an assay material flowed into the swept region. Flows of medium in the swept region do not substantially affect the biological micro-objects in the unswept regions, but any analyte of interest produced by a biological micro-object can diffuse from an unswept region into the swept region, where the analyte can react with the assay material to produce a localized detectable reaction.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2018Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: Berkeley Lights, Inc.Inventors: Mark P. Patent number: 10646878Abstract: The paper shredder simultaneously shreds both manually inserted sheets of paper and sheets of paper that are placed in an auto-feeder input tray. Immediately above the shredding mechanism the input path is bifurcated. One branch extends essentially straight up from the blades and leads to a manual input slot. A second branch extends at an angle towards the rear of the shredder where an auto-feed roller lies at the bottom of an auto-feed slot. When a stack of paper is placed into the slot, the bottom of the stack rests against the auto-feed roller which grasps the top sheet and pulls it under the roller. The roller then pushes the sheet down the angled throat where a curved surface bends the sheet downwards and into the shredding mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2017Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Inventor: Herman Chang

Patent number: 10646910Abstract: Methods for making curved pieces from continuous metal elements are provided. Such methods include advancing a continuous metal element through a calendering station such that each length of the element assumes a pre-established curvature; stopping advancement of the element after a curved length thereof has passed through a wrap-bending station located downstream of the calendering station; wrap-bending the length of the element located at the station, while simultaneously conveying the curved portion to a stretch-bending station; stretch-bending the curved portion; resuming advancement of the element until the wrap-bent length is at a cutting station; and cutting the element in the wrap-bent length, thus producing the desired curved piece. Curved pieces produced by such methods are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2015Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: BAOMARC AUTOMOTIVE SOLUTIONS S.P.A.Inventor: Pietro Passone
