Abstract: A method and apparatus include receiving a moving pictures experts group (MPEG) dynamic adaptive streaming over hypertext transfer protocol (DASH) media presentation description (MPD) file that includes a range of media bandwidth values. A service descriptor is inserted in the MPEG-DASH MPD file that specifies a maximum bandwidth value of the range of media bandwidth values. The MPEG-DASH MPD file that includes the service descriptor is provided to a client device to permit the client device to limit a bandwidth usage of the client device in association with the multimedia streaming content.

Abstract: A replay method of live videos, includes: receiving a replay request sent by a platform control server, the replay request being directed to a specified video file in a storage server, wherein the specified video file is obtained after a live streaming server records a live video, and the specified video file is uploaded to the storage server by the live streaming server; retrieving, from the storage server, the specified video file to which the replay request is directed; and converting the specified video file to a live video stream, and transmitting the live video stream to the live streaming server to allow the live streaming server to transmit the live video stream to a user client.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of using video viewing activity data as input to an aggregation engine built on the Hadoop MapReduce framework which calculates second-by-second video viewing activity aggregated to the analyst's choice of (a) geographic area, (b) video server, (c) video content (channel call sign, video program, etc.), or (d) viewer demographic, or any combination of these fields, for each second of the day represented in the video viewing activity data. The method further comprises receiving a request from the media presentation device for an electronic programming guide and sending the electronic programming guide to the media presentation device, where the electronic programming guide comprises a listing of content from a plurality of content sources corresponding to the plurality of authentication tokens.

Abstract: A method and a system for automatically updating video content are disclosed. In an embodiment, the method may include identifying a frame within a video content based on a plurality of timestamps assigned within the video content, wherein the frame is required to be updated. The method may further include extracting content information associated with the frame, and retrieving at least one source hyperlink used within the frame, based on the content information. The method may further include comparing a first textual content derived from the content information and a second textual content derived from at least one webpage associated with the at least one source hyperlink. The method may further include updating the frame with a summarized text associated with the second textual content and an audio content generated for the summarized text, based on the comparing, and merging the updated frame with the video content.

Abstract: Various embodiments facilitate voice control of a receiving device, such as a set-top box. In one embodiment, a voice enabled media presentation system (“VEMPS”) includes a receiving device and a remote-control device having an audio input device. The VEMPS is configured to obtain audio data via the audio input device, the audio data received from a user and representing a spoken command to control the receiving device. The VEMPS is further configured to determine the spoken command by performing speech recognition on the obtained audio data, and to control the receiving device based on the determined command. The video player may also enable the sharing of a segment of the video with other video players, enabling the video players to play the streamed segment of the video without having to play the entire video, thereby reducing network bandwidth usage. The video player may be embeddable. The server may associate searchable tags with respective video segments.

Abstract: Methods, computer readable media, and apparatuses for switching streams in response to detecting a start trigger are presented. A program's start trigger indicating that the program is upcoming may be detected on a first stream, and in response to detecting the start trigger on the first stream, a second stream containing the program may be switched to. The program may be a video program. Segment triggers may be detected and may be used to selectively record and/or delete segments of the program according to a priority scheme. Multiple start triggers may be detected at decreasing time intervals. The existence of a recording conflict may be determined based on a program's start trigger and a user may be alerted of the recording conflict.

The multichannel audio data has a sampling frequency corresponding to the predetermined number of channels. Information indicating the sampling frequency is added to the transmission audio data.

Based on the first observation data, the first audio segment may be selected. The first content composite may be configured with the first audio segment so that the adapted first content composite plays the first audio segment when the adapted first content composite is presented. The adapted first content composite may be output for presentation, where the first endpoint media device or the second endpoint media device performs at least one operation relating to the adapted first content composite.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems involving location-based disambiguation of media channel identification, in a scenario where a fingerprint of media content being rendered by a media presentation device matches multiple reference fingerprints corresponding respectively with multiple different media channels. Upon detecting such a multi-match situation, a server or other entity will use a location of the media presentation device as a basis to disambiguate between the matching reference fingerprints and thus to determine the channel on which the media content being rendered by the media presentation device is arriving.

The video processing method includes: determining target image frames corresponding to a dynamic special effect in a video and determining an attribute of a special effect element corresponding to the dynamic special effect in each of the target image frames and coordinates of the special effect element. The video processing method also includes: rendering the special effect element on a drawing interface based on the attribute and the coordinates of the special effect element; filling the target image frames into the drawing interface as a background and forming drawing interface frames with the dynamic special effect; and outputting the drawing interface frames corresponding to each of the target image frames.

Abstract: The present application discloses a video scrambling method and device with adaptive mode selection, a network camera and a readable storage medium, which are used for scrambling a video code stream. The video scrambling method with adaptive mode selection comprises: firstly acquiring a video code stream and determining the frame type of a current frame; and then scrambling, according to the frame type of the current frame, the data subjected to entropy decoding by using a scrambling method corresponding to the frame type. The video scrambling device with adaptive mode selection in the present application comprises a determination module and a scrambling module. According to the method and device of the present application, I-frames and P-frames are respectively scrambled, without changing the original coding standard format, effectively scrambling the video contents, and improving the security of video content information.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems to help disambiguate channel identification in a scenario where fingerprint data of media content matches multiple reference fingerprints corresponding respectively with multiple different channels. Upon detecting such a multi-match, a server or other entity will perform disambiguation based on a determination that a segment of the fingerprint data matches a reference fingerprint corresponding with just a single channel, such as a reference fingerprint representing commercial or news programming content specific to just the single channel. The server or other entity will thereby determine the channel on which the media content being rendered by the media presentation device is arriving, so as to facilitate taking channel-specific action.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a content score for a video that is indicative of how engaging the video is to viewers makes use of a modified completion rate factor. The modified completion rate factor indicates the percentage of viewers that played the video and that watched at least a predetermined number of second of the video. Other viewing factors may also be used to help generate the content score of the video.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods to identify and credit media using ratios of media characteristics are disclosed herein. Example methods disclosed herein include determining a first ratio based on a first time interval and a second time interval of a plurality of time intervals of a reference media signature, the reference media signature based on a media signal associated with reference media, respective ones of the plurality of time intervals corresponding to respective adjacent characteristics identified in the media signal. Disclosed example methods also include determining a second ratio based on a third time interval and a fourth time interval of the plurality of time intervals of the reference media signature. Disclosed example methods further include generating a reference ratio signature based on the first and second ratios, the reference ratio signature used to identify the reference media.

An example deduplicator obtains an overlap multiplier based on the media campaign, the overlap multiplier is a ratio of (1) a product of a panel duplication reach and a did-not-view reach and (2) a product of a television panel reach and a digital panel reach, and determine a duplication factor for the media campaign based on the first audience reach, the second audience reach and the overlap multiplier. An example audience manager determines a total audience for the media campaign based on the first audience reach, the second audience reach and the duplication factor.

In embodiments, a method comprises: analyzing a video to determine content and context of portions of the video; assigning one or more content editing categories to the portions of the video based on the analyzing; determining an unwanted scene of the video based on the one or more content editing categories and user profile data of a viewer; determining a style component of the unwanted scene based on context of the unwanted scene and the user profile data; generating custom content to replace the unwanted scene of the video based on an acceptable portion of content corresponding to the unwanted scene and the style component; editing the video to replace the unwanted scene of the video with the custom content to produce an edited video including the custom content; and providing the edited video to the viewer.

Abstract: Recommendation engine apparatus and associated methods provide content compiled from various sources and selected to match user preferences. In one embodiment, the recommendation apparatus comprises a headend entity; in another, it is co-located on a user's CPE. In one embodiment, the recommendation engine creates content records from content metadata for comparison to a user profile. The user profile is pre-programmed; however has the ability to dynamically shift toward a user's preferences as the user takes actions regarding content. Client applications are utilized to compile and present content; feedback mechanisms are utilized to enable “learning” from user activities to generate more precise recommendations as well as to “unlearn” stale preferences. Recommended content is displayed in the form of a playlist, or as a continuous stream on a virtual channel, or presented in an electronic program guide. A business rules “engine” useful in implementing operational or business goals is also disclosed.

Abstract: A display apparatus for searching and a control method thereof are provided. The method includes displaying an image content, determining whether a search function is performed while the image content is displayed, and in response to the determining that the search function is performed while the image content is displayed, transmitting information of the image content to an external server. The method further includes receiving, from the external server, information of a search record of one or more viewers of the image content, and providing information of one or more search terms that are related to the image content, based on the information of the search record.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing an integrated search is provided. An interface is provided that allows users to search and select any data related to a searchable term. Searchable terms may comprise titles of content, actors, and tags. Upon receiving results from the initial search, the user progresses through the initial search by selecting a result from the initial search and conducting a further search of that selection. The search may progress through many layers of searching in order to find information useful to the user and the user may perform actions based upon results of the search. The search implements a display with two columns, the first column displaying selectable data, and the second column displaying results to the selected data. The search is further customizable based upon a privacy level selected by the user.

Multimedia content is received by a first tuner over one or more channels. A request is received from a networked device for the multimedia content from a particular one of the channels. The requested multimedia content is unavailable to a second tuner of the networked device. The requested multimedia content is provided over a network to the networked device.

Abstract: A method and system for adding overtly human-perceptible supplemental audio content into a media stream to help mask audio effects of an audio watermark in the media stream. A method involves receiving a media stream that defines a sequence of audio content presentable by a content presentation device, modifying the media stream to produce a modified media stream that defines the sequence of audio content, and outputting the modified media stream for presentation by the content presentation device. The modified media stream includes an audio watermark that is machine-detectable to trigger an interactive event. Further, the act of modifying the media stream involves adding into the media stream supplemental audio content coincident with the audio watermark, to help mask the audio watermark in the modified media stream during presentation of the modified media stream by the content presentation device.

Abstract: Digital cross-marketing into digital channels is triggered by a cue message in a linear and non-linear television programming stream. The cue message provides advance warning to a local service provider about an upcoming break in the programming stream and also provides information about the break. In addition to triggering insertion of a local ad into the programming stream in accord with the instructions in the cue message, the cue message also initiates action to run one or more ads in other digital media. For example, the cue message may trigger ads in mobile media, Internet-based media, the Internet of Things, and other media.

Abstract: A webcasting method of a media file is provided, including obtaining media data in the media file from a server by a player built-in a webpage, constructing fragmented media files containing the media data by the player, sending the fragmented media files to a media source extension interface by the player, and invoking a media element of the webpage by the media source extension interface for playing; the player plays the media file in the webpage, and the media file adopts a non-streaming media encapsulation format. A webcasting device and a storage medium of a media file are further provided.

The method comprises obtaining, from a database, a set of nodes and each node comprises an audio element, video element, and a set of node branches, wherein at least on node is a parent and another a child; obtaining a relational table; designating a current node, creating a playlist of audio segments and video segments for display; and traversing the set of nodes by: integrating the audio and video elements, receiving a selection from the user, and designating the child node as the current node. The system comprises a computer store containing data; a set of nodes and each node has a video and audio element and relationships exist between the nodes; and a computer server that obtains a set of nodes, generates a playlist, displays an audio and video sequence, and traverses the set of nodes.

Abstract: A method for transmitting signals in a subsea environment includes determining that a quality of an acoustic signal is below a threshold. The acoustic signal travels from a first device, through water in the subsea environment, to a second device. A parameter of the first device, the second device, or both is then adjusted to improve the quality of the acoustic signal when the quality of the acoustic signal is below the threshold.

For example, the connectors can be plugged into, or unplugged from, a network component, while retaining a desired arrangement. In some embodiments, the system includes one or more connector blocks, one or more cable blocks, one or more crossbars, one or more latching mechanisms, or a combination thereof. The connector blocks engage the connector tab of each connector, allowing the connector to be inserted/removed without a user having to engage/disengage each connector tab by hand. The cable blocks maintain a relative position among connectors and cables. The crossbar rigidly couples the connector blocks together and provides a rigid connection to a mounting reference such as, for example, a standard networking rack. The latching mechanisms secure and release the crossbar from the mounting reference.

Abstract: One embodiment provides a waveguide for controlling sound directivity of high frequency sound waves generated by a speaker driver. The waveguide is positioned in front of the speaker driver. The waveguide comprises one or more ridge areas, one or more recess areas, and one or more smooth surfaces. Each smooth surface connects a ridge area to a recess area to create a smooth transition between the ridge area and the recess area without any seams or sharp transitions. The waveguide shapes propagation of the sound waves to provide a smooth off-axis frequency response for the sound waves.
