The method consists of a specialized weaning gate that allows calves to creep graze into an adjacent paddock but does not allow the mother to follow. The gate allows the calves to return to the mothers, to acclimate the calves to moving through the gate and grazing independently and to acclimate the mothers to being temporarily separated from the calves. Once the calves have reached the appropriate age to be weaned, the gate is adjusted to become a one-way gate so that the calves will creep graze into the adjacent field but will not be able to return to the original field with the mothers, which allows the calves to be fully weaned without direct human intervention.

Abstract: Animal sensing systems and methods are described. An animal sensing system can include an input section with an entrance and an output section having at least two output paths each having its own exit. An animal can enter the animal sensing system through the entrance. A sensor within a sensing area of the input section can detect one or more characteristics of the animal, and can communicate the detected characteristic(s) to a central processing unit. The central processing unit can use the received data to classify the animal based on the detected characteristic(s), and then control a directional guide, such as a gate, in the animal sensing system on the basis of the classification, so as to direct the animal within the animal sensing system, such as to allow access to only one of the output paths at a time. The animal may thus be allowed to exit the animal sensing system through only one output path, directing the animal to a desired location based on the classification.

Abstract: This invention relates in part to soybean event pDAB8264.44.06.1 and includes a novel expression cassettes and transgenic inserts comprising multiple traits conferring resistance to glyphosate, aryloxyalkanoate, and glufosinate herbicides. This invention also relates in part to methods of controlling resistant weeds, plant breeding and herbicide tolerant plants. In some embodiments, the event sequence can be “stacked” with other traits, including, for example, other herbicide tolerance gene(s) and/or insect-inhibitory proteins. This invention further relates in part to endpoint TaqMan PCR assays for the detection of Event pDAB8264.44.06.1 in soybeans and related plant material. Some embodiments can perform high throughput zygosity analysis of plant material and other embodiments can be used to uniquely identify the zygosity of and breed soybean lines comprising the event of the subject invention. Kits and conditions useful in conducting these assays are also provided.

Abstract: A seed coating agent for preventing and treating a wheat rot disease is provided. The seed coating agent includes a fungicide and a seed priming and elicitor. The fungicide includes silthiopham and coumoxystrobin. The seed priming and elicitor includes salicylic acid and compound sodium nitrophenolate. The weight percentage of each components is 1%-60% of the fungicide, 0.0005%-0.05% of salicylic acid, and 0.001%-0.1% of compound sodium nitrophenolate. The seed coating agent has a good effect of promoting seed germination and strengthening seedlings on wheat seeds. Both silthiopham and coumoxystrobin are of low toxicity, and are safe for humans, animals, beneficial organisms, and the environment.

Abstract: The present application relates to copolymers of N-halamine (HA) and dopamine (DMA) and their method of formation. The HA and DMA are present in the copolymer in a ratio of 0.4:9.6 to 9.6:0.4 (HA: DMA). The copolymers can be used in novel antimicrobial compositions that can be coated, and covalently bonded to surfaces such as metal, plastic, glass, or paint surfaces. The coating provides a rechargeable antimicrobial surface with the treatment of a halogen. The coating thickness and halogen content can be tuned by adjusting the formulation and crosslinking the coating.
