    Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for limiting the output of a laser, wherein a reflecting device arranged in the optical path of a laser beam comprises a switching layer which comprises or consists of a material exhibiting a metal-insulator transition and a reflecting layer which is positioned downstream of the switching layer in the optical path of the laser beam, wherein the reflecting device is configured such that an output of the laser beam when it is incident upon the reflecting device which exceeds a predefined threshold causes a change in the refractive index of the material in the switching layer, and the output of the laser beam reflected by the reflecting device is thus reduced as compared to the output of the laser beam when it is incident upon the reflecting device due to reduced reflection by the reflecting device.

    Abstract: A layered thermochromic device for enhanced infrared emission, and method for creating the same is disclosed. The method includes deposing a spacer layer of HfO2 upon a metallic layer, spin coating the spacer layer with photoresist, exposing the photoresist with a photomask, creating a plurality of holes in the photoresist, and deposing vanadium on the photoresist and the plurality of holes, filling the holes and forming vanadium microdisks on the spacer layer. The method also includes removing the photoresist and the vanadium deposed on the photoresist, and forming a thermochromic layer having VO2 coupled to the spacer layer through direct oxidation of the deposed vanadium microdisks by heating the device in a furnace under a nitrogen/oxygen flow. The device includes a metallic layer, a spacer layer coupled to the metallic layer, and a thermochromic layer deposed on the spacer layer opposite the metallic layer.

    Abstract: A method for model training and deployment includes training, by a processor, a model to learn video representations with a self-supervised contrastive loss by performing progressive training in phases with an incremental number of positive instances from one or more video sequences, resetting the learning rate schedule in each of the phases, and inheriting model weights from a checkpoint from a previous training phase. The method further includes updating the trained model with the self-supervised contrastive loss given multiple positive instances obtained from Cascade K-Nearest Neighbor mining of the one or more video sequences by extracting features in different modalities to compute similarities between the one or more video sequences and selecting a top-k similar instances with features in different modalities. The method also includes fine-tuning the trained model for a downstream task.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for recovering an organic solvent from a waste sludge generated during formation of a polyarylene sulfide. Methods include combining the waste sludge with an anti-solvent to create a dispersion, which includes a solid phase that includes a substantial portion of the impurities of the polyarylene sulfide formation and a liquid phase that contains the anti-solvent and organic solvent employed during formation of the polyarylene sulfide. The liquid phase is separated from the solid phase and then subjected to a distillation process to separate the organic solvent from the anti-solvent. Methods can also include forming the polyarylene sulfide by a polymerization process and thereafter purifying a slurry of the polyarylene sulfide. A liquid washing product is formed as a result of the purification process, which can be subjected to a distillation process that forms an organic solvent-rich stream and the waste sludge.
