Abstract: A device and method for treating female urinary incontinence and also for treating fecal incontinence are presented. A fractional RF grid array is used to heat target tissue to a temperature of about 40-45° C. for a specified period of time, thus stimulating fibroblasts to produce type 1 collagen preferably without producing significant amounts of type 3 collagen. The device includes a temperature sensor and a control circuit to maintain the desired temperature of the target tissue and avoid overheating. Target tissue includes tissue in and around the urethra, and in and around the anus including the perineum. The wand to which the RF grid array is mounted has visible gradations on it so that the user can treat one area at a time, then reliably move the grid array to the next adjacent area even though the grid array is hidden from view inside a portion of the body. Abstract: A cavity modeling method, computer-readable storage medium, computer program, and cavity modeling system can be used for intraoperative creation of a 3D model of a cavity in a patient during a surgical intervention. The modeling system includes a visualization unit with an imaging head for insertion into the patient to create an intracorporeal image of a region of the cavity. The modeling system also includes a 3D modeling unit for creating a digital 3D model of an inner surface of the cavity and augmenting and adapting it by a first image in a first image pose and by at least one second image in a second image pose. The 3D modeling unit is further adapted to output a view of the 3D model of the cavity via a visual displaying device to provide a user with a real-time intraoperative visualization of the cavity.

Abstract: A navigable probe system and method of use is provided. The system may include a handle assembly having a locking mechanism enclosed and a stylus, a cannula, and a tracking device extending from the handle assembly. The stylus may include undercuts for receiving pins of the locking mechanism. A cam of the handle assembly may rotate such that in a first position, the pins of the locking mechanism may be engaged with the undercuts and in a second position, the pins of the locking mechanism may be disengaged from the undercuts releasing the stylus from the locking mechanism. The stylus may be slidably engaged with an inner diameter of the cannula. In some arrangements, the handle assembly may include a quick connect system that in a first position attaches the cannula to the handle assembly and in a second position releases the handle assembly and thus stylus from the cannula.

The roll mechanism may include a first gear coupled to the instrument shaft and meshed with a second gear. One of gears may be a spur gear while the other gear may be a beveloid gear. Further, the spur gear and the beveloid gear may be in a gear train containing a compressible gear, e.g., a gear with an inner center piece, an outer ring, and a flexible interconnecting structure between the inner center piece and the outer ring. With a compressible gear, an interference fit of in the gear train may be within manufacturing variations of the gear train, and the compressible gear may deflect radially away from the interference fit.

The surgical robot is configured by a plurality of links, at least some links connecting between links are formed by a flexible joint having flexibility, and a surgical tool is mounted at a distal end. The flexible joint that is a passive joint has a spring element made by, for example, polyimide, CFRP, GFRP, or polyester, in a rotation direction. Furthermore, the flexible joint that is an active joint is connected to a flexible structure that is serially fixed to an output shaft of a driving motor.

Abstract: The invention relates to a medical robot for assisting a practitioner during a medical intervention on a relevant anatomical part of a patient. The medical robot comprises a robotic arm equipped, at one end, with a tool guide intended to guide a medical instrument. The medical robot also comprises a control unit configured to control the movement of the robotic arm. The tool guide is coupled to a force sensor. When the medical robot is used in a “cooperative manual control” mode, the control unit is configured to determine, using the force sensor, a force applied by the practitioner to the tool guide and to calculate a speed of movement of the tool guide on the basis of a gain factor applied to the determined force. Advantageously, the value of the gain factor is variable and is calculated on the basis of the determined force.

The control system is configured to determine an orientation of an end effector reference frame relative to a field of view reference frame, determine an orientation of a master input device reference frame relative to a display reference frame, establish an alignment relationship between the master input device reference frame and the display reference frame, and command, based on the alignment relationship, a change in a pose of the end effector in response to a change in a pose of the master input device. The alignment relationship is independent of a position relationship between the master input device reference frame and the display reference frame. In one aspect, the teleoperated system is a telemedical system such as a telesurgical system.

Each release element is coupled to the backend and may include an activation feature on one side of the backend and a push tab extending from either an opposite side or the same side of the backend. Movement of the activation features moves the push tabs from being aligned with the docking feature to pushing on the docking structure, permitting the medical instrument to be disengaged from the docking structure. Optionally, a coupling of the release elements limits a movement of the activation features.
