Abstract: An interspinous spacer includes an actuator screw having a proximal end and a shaped cavity in the proximal end, where the shaped cavity is configured for receiving a bit of a driver tool having a complementary shape for rotating the actuator screw using the driver tool; a wedge coupled to the actuator screw, wherein, as the actuator screw is rotated using the driver tool, the actuator screw and the wedge move longitudinally relative to the body; and a first arm and a second arm, wherein the first and second arms are rotatably coupled to the distal portion of the body and configured for rotating in response to longitudinal movement of the wedge. The interspinous spacer may include locking inserts or a locking ring to resist rotation of the actuator screw absent the driver tool.

Abstract: An insertion device for deploying an implant includes an elongated main body having a distal locking portion for coupling to the implant and a proximal handle portion. The main body defines a central passage and the distal locking portion has outer ridges and slots to allow the outer ridges to flex radially inward when mounting to the implant. A plunger slides in the central passage for movement between an unlocked position for mounting the implant on the distal locking portion, a locked position for locking the implant on the distal locking portion, and an insertion instrument deployed position for deploying the actuation plunger to move the blades from the stowed position to the deployed position. A spike cap drive rotatably mounts on the main body having a socket end for engaging a drive nut on the implant to, in turn, move the spike cap.

Abstract: A bone plate includes first and second ends opposed along a longitudinal axis oriented along a longitudinal direction, first and second sides opposed along a lateral direction, and a bone-facing surface and an outer surface opposed along a transverse direction. The plate defines a first hole and a second hole arrangement extending from the outer to the bone-facing surface. The second hole arrangement is distal of the first hole, which is configured to receive a first fixation member, and the second hole arrangement is configured to receive at least one second fixation member for affixing with underlying bone. The plate is pivotable along an angulation range about the first hole. The second hole arrangement laterally crosses the longitudinal axis, defines the angulation range, and allows the at least one second fixation member to substantially secure the plate to the underlying bone at any angulation within the angulation range.

In some examples, the intra-osseous support structure is positioned in openings formed in adjacent portions of bones. Fasteners are inserted through the bone portions to secure the intra-osseous support structure in the bones. Depending on the application, one or more external bone plates may also be applied to the bone portions. The external bone plate may be in compression while the intra-osseous support structure is in tension under load in situ.

Abstract: A method and system for performing bone fusion and/or securing one or more bones, such as adjacent vertebra, are disclosed. The screws include a threaded tip connected to a main shaft and a threaded outer sleeve that rotates relative to the outer shaft until locked down. Independent rotation of the threaded outer sleeve relative to the threaded distal tip allows compression or distraction to modify the gap between the vertebral bodies. The screws are passed from the inferior to superior vertebra or superior to inferior, for example, through a trans-pedicular route to avoid neurological compromise. At the same time, the path of screw insertion is oriented to reach superior or inferior vertebra. An intervertebral cage of the system is configured for lateral expansion from a nearly straight configuration to form a large footprint in the disc space. The screws and cage may be combined for improved fixation with minimal invasiveness.

Abstract: The recovery of an intact volume of tissue proceeds with a delivery cannula distal end positioned in confronting adjacency with the volume of tissue to be recovered. A tissue cutting and capture assembly formed of a plurality of metal leafs is deployed from the distal end of the delivery cannula. The tips of these leafs carry a pursing cable assembly, which is electrically excited to electrosurgically cut around and circumscribe the tissue volume. These pursing cables are tensioned to complete the envelopment of the tissue volumes by drawing the leaf tips together. An essential attribute of the disclosed apparatus is the confinement of the path of electrical conduction of constant current required to achieve tissue cutting to only those portions of the deploying and retracting resistively heated portion of the electrically conductive cutting and pursing cable that are in direct contact with tissue.
