Abstract: A device and method for cleaning endotracheal tubes in situ. A brush is positioned near a distal end of a linkage the traverses the lumen of the tube. When a handle, the linkage and the brush are in a retracted position, the brush is constrained within the lumen of the tube. When the handle is advanced to push the brush and as stopper out of the distal end of the lumen of the tube, the brush and stopper expand sufficiently to contact an interior a lumen of an endotracheal tube and the stopper seals liquids from escaping the ET tube. As the device is withdrawn from the ET tube, the brush scrubs the sides of the ET tube, and the stopper prevents the liquid from escaping from the ET tube and into the patient.

Abstract: An expandable and collapsible stent comprising prosthetic leaflets attached to an inner valve support section that extends radially upward into an outer stent section. A transition stent section is disposed between the inner valve support section and the outer stent section. Each of the outer stent section, the inner valve support section and the transition stent section may comprise struts or the equivalent that form and define cells having a pattern, wherein each section may comprise a different cell pattern. Transition stent section preferably comprises struts that are of equal curvature, with adjacent struts equally spaced from each other to allow nested collapsing of the transition stent section struts. A boss section extending downstream away from the inner valve support section may be provided to aid in alignment and retention of the expanded stent and may comprise a shape that is complementary to a heart chamber annulus.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for holding and maneuvering a valve during preparation and attachment to patient, providing increased visibility of the prosthetic valve and the sewing ring to prevent suture entanglement. A handle attachment is spaced from the valve for improved visibility of the sewing ring and the outlet end of the valve during attachment. Commissure posts are bent inward at the tips while preventing crashing of the commissure posts into each other causing damage. A release force needed to remove the holder and unthread the holder sutures is reduced. The holder and related methods can provide a kink free holder suture path to reduce suture entanglement and prevent damage to the implanted valve during holder removal by reducing the release force needed to remove the holder sutures by up to 30%.

The first supporting member is connected to a distal end face of the clamping arm and extends distally in the extending direction of the clamping arm. The width of the first supporting member is greater than the width of the clamping arm. Only the width of an operating part of the clamp is increased, and the overall volume of a conveying system and the clamp are not required to be increased, that is, a clamping area of a valve leaflet is effectively increased, the contact area between the clamp and the valve leaflet after the clamp clamps the valve leaflet is increased, a clamping force of the clamp on the valve leaflet is uniform, the valve leaflet is prevented from being damaged.

Abstract: A prosthetic implant replaces hyaline cartilage in a synovial joint with a flexible polymer sliding surface, preferably of hydrogel, on a segmented support with an array of adjacent segments to which the hydrogel is molded. Adjacent segments are laterally and angularly displaceable permitting the implant to conform to rounded or irregular surfaces or to be rolled or folded for arthroscopic placement. Tension cables threaded through segments along a circuit can cinch segments together for stiffening the supporting layer and/or the cable can pull the implant against a bone surface. Adjacent segments can have inter-engaged structures. In some embodiments the segments are carried on a flexible foil or fibrous sheet.

Abstract: A femoral head prosthesis is a multilayer composite having a metal neck stem component thread or press fit into a hollow rigid shell of metal or ceramic, a polymeric core filling the interior volume under the hollow rigid shell and around a forward part of the neck stem, and a smooth, void-free polymeric articulation layer of at most 12 mm over the exterior of the shell. The prosthesis is formed by a polymeric molding process wherein polymerizing resin or heated thermoplastic material is flowed in a mold through a set of holes through the hollow shell into the interior volume and around the shell's exterior. Once the resin has cured or the thermoplastic cooled, the stem, core, shell and articulation layer collectively form an integral prosthesis of a desired head diameter matching a patient's anatomy.
