  • Patent number: 12127757
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure include a method for conditioning ex vivo pericardial tissue that has a parietal side and a fibrous side from which fibers extend. A blade assembly includes a blade head having a blade array and a face that defines gaps therein. The parietal side of the tissue is placed downward against a support plate, and a motor is operated to move the blade array with respect to the face. The face contacts the tissue such that the fibers protrude through the gaps and into the blade head. The blade array shears the fibers that protrude through the gaps into the blade head, yielding sheared fibers. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Patent number: 12127766
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to pedicle screws that can selectively lock polyaxial motion of a receiver head with a locking cap. The locking cap can allow locking of the polyaxial motion of the receiver member relative to the spherical head of the bone shank without having a rod placed in the rod slot of the receiver member. This can enable placement of the head of the pedicle screw in a desired position and orientation, locking the head in the desired position and orientation, and performing a maneuver, such as derotation, without a rod in place or any extra motion between the receiver member and the bone shank. In some embodiments, actuation of the locking cap can be achieved by rotating the locking cap relative to the receiver member, where rotation of the locking cap causes corresponding axial translation of the locking cap relative to the receiver member.

  • Patent number: 12127775
Abstract: The present disclosure provides medical instruments and medical instrument components having targeted torsional failure. Such targeted torsional failure helps prevent a surgeon from applying excessive torque that may damage an implant or bone, and also helps avoid the problems and complications that arise when medical instruments break within patients during surgical procedures. To provide such targeted torsional failure, the disclosed medical instrument components include a breakaway section designed so that the component breaks at a desired amount of torque, at a desired location, and in a desired way. The provided medical instrument components may also include a sleeve to increase side-loading strength that may otherwise be reduced due to the breakaway section. The increased side-loading strength may help prevent accidental bending-type failures. The presently disclosed medical instrument component therefore provides targeted torsional failure without sacrificing side-loading strength.

Abstract: A method and system for performing hip arthroplasty include analyzing images of a patient's hip joint in a plurality of positions to identify preoperative hip geometry. A statistical patient model predicts prosthetic hip implant performance based on the preoperative knee geometry and given prosthetic knee implant implantation parameters for a plurality of selected patient activities, each having a predefined motion profile to calculate an optimized surgical plan for performing the procedure using a computer assisted surgical system, which may use fiducial markers affixed to patient tissue. Hip geometry can be determined by angles between landmarks in the images, including sacral tilt, pelvic incidence, pelvic femoral angle, and ante-inclination angle in x-ray images. Implant performance criteria can include, for example, edge loading and range of motion of implant components.

  • Patent number: 12127794
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for planning a surgical procedure aiming to ablate a tissue in an anatomical area of interest of a patient. On the basis of a preoperative image of the anatomical area of interest and of a set of planning parameters (P), a simulated image is generated by a neural network that has been previously trained using learning elements corresponding, respectively, to a similar surgical procedure for ablating a tissue in an anatomical area of interest for another patient. Each learning element comprises a preoperative image of the anatomical area of interest of a patient, planning parameters (P) used for the surgical procedure on this patient, and a postoperative image of the anatomical area of interest of this patient after the surgical procedure. An estimated ablation region may be segmented in the simulated image in order to be compared with a segmented region to be treated in the preoperative image.

Abstract: Various embodiments of an apparatus, methods, systems and computer program products described herein are directed to Registration Engine. The Registration Engine tracks positions of a fiducial marker relative to positions of an Augmented Reality (AR) headset device worn by a user. The Registration Engine receives respective registration landmarks that correspond with locations of a physical region of a patient's anatomy and the tracked positions of the fiducial marker. The Registration Engine generates an AR display of medical data at the AR headset device in alignment with the physical region of a patient's anatomy that corresponds with the respective registration landmarks.
