  • Patent number: 12257623
Abstract: Methods of additive manufacturing using noble metals and/or copper metal, and binder compositions for use during the additive manufacturing methods, are generally described. In some instances, the methods of additive manufacturing include de-binding (and in some cases sintering steps) that afford metal-based composites, de-bound metal structures, and metal objects containing noble metals (e.g., silver, gold, platinum) and/or copper that have improved properties, such as relatively high densities. In certain aspects, combinations of certain metal powders (e.g., noble metal and/or copper powders) with certain binder compositions may result in improved properties of resulting metal objects produced by the additive manufacturing process, such as relatively low surface roughnesses. The binder compositions described may include a low molecular weight polymer (e.g., including an acrylic acid repeat unit) and, in some cases, a cross-linking agent.

  • Patent number: 12257625
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the rapid manufacture of a three-dimensional workpiece from a molten material (1), in particular a molten metal, in which method the molten material (1) is supplied to a compression chamber (2) and delivered in drop form via an injector hole (4) by means of a pressure pulse which is generated with the aid of a reciprocating piston (3) that delimits the compression chamber (2). According to the invention, the compression chamber (2) is degassed before manufacturing begins and/or during a pause in the manufacturing. In a first step, ultrasonic waves are coupled into the molten material (1) in the compression chamber (2), which generate a force (FBjrk) that makes the gas in the molten material (1) sink, and in a second step, after the ultrasonic excitation has ended, the piston (3) is introduced deeper into the compression chamber (2) in order to remove the rising gas via a conduit (5) of the piston (3).

  • Patent number: 12257627
Abstract: A manufacturing process includes fusing an area of a material layer with beams from multiple sources, each of which has a predefined fuse rate and a field of view. Efficiency of fusing is increased by estimating optimum fusing times with the use of size of the area to and fuse rates involved, determining optimum size of the area to be fused, and determining those vectors of the area that could be irradiated and fused by a given of the multiple sources. As a result, the set of locations at the area is determined that can be fused by a given source almost exactly within the optimum fusing time. Vectors representing the area are then compared to products of optimum fusing times and corresponding fuse rates and, if a vector and a corresponding product are in a predetermined relationship, a subset of the vector is selected for irradiation by identified source.

  • Patent number: 12257632
Abstract: A simple method for making low surface area alloy particles with high silicon content has been discovered. The method involves two ball milling steps in which silicon containing precursor particles undergo a first milling to render the elemental silicon present to have an average grain size less than 20 nm, followed by a second milling with incorporated binding metal particles (e.g. certain transition metals) that serve to bind the first milled particles together. Done appropriately, the two milling step method results in alloy particles with high silicon content and have relatively low surface area and large particle size. As such, the particles are desirable for use in anode electrodes in rechargeable lithium batteries.

  • Patent number: 12257655
Abstract: A welding electrode apparatus may be mounted to a robot that presents it to a workpiece along a pre-programmed path conforming to the surface of the workpiece. The welding electrode apparatus has a first drive for rotating the welding electrode about its own axis. The electrode handle has a second rotating drive having an imbalance to impose vibration on the welding rod transverse to the axis of the rod. The first drive may turn relatively slowly; the second drive may turn more quickly. The first drive has an electrical pickup by which to carry DC power to the electrode. The two rotating drives impose two frequencies of vibration into the apparatus, causing a make-and-break contact for low power spark deposition, while at the same time causing the electrode to bounce and impact the surface. The forward end of the apparatus may include a cowling and a delivery line to provide shielding gas to the electrode.

Abstract: A method of providing an inert atmosphere to the inside of a piping assembly prior to and during welding, including introducing a canister, and a deflated bladder which surrounds the canister, into a piping assembly to be welded. Introducing purge gas, thereby inflating the deflated bladder and sealing the canister against the inside of the piping assembly to be welded. Introducing excess purge gas from the bladder into a primary purge gas diffuser, thereby producing a first diffused purge gas stream. Introducing the first diffused purge gas stream into a secondary purge gas diffuser, thereby producing a secondary diffused purge gas stream. Introducing the secondary diffused purge gas stream into a tertiary purge gas diffuser, thereby producing a third purge gas stream. And introducing the third purge gas stream into the inside of the piping assembly to be welded.

  • Patent number: 12257657
Abstract: A tool head assembly for crimping, the assembly including an internal cam that spins freely on a stationary shaft in one direction and locks onto the shaft in the other direction. That cam rotates against the moving slide forcing to move away from the stationary shaft opening a gap between rollers. A controller is programmed to have the drive rotate in one direction for a set time period, then reverse the rotation to begin the crimp process. The start rotation of the drive rotates the cam and opens the roller gap. The forward rotation allows the cam to swing, closing the gap and rotating the rollers around a seal. The tool eliminates the air cylinder and related pneumatic hoses and valve making the head smaller and allows a controller to communicate with any OEM production system to verify the tool has been used and was used correctly.
