  • Patent number: 5462425
Abstract: An apparatus for mechanically separating water from coal includes a vibrating hopper, two contra-rotating cylinders, a solid collector, and a fluid collector. The hopper feeds hydrated coal or coal slurry to wells which are arranged along the surface of a first rotating cylinder. A second rotating cylinder has protrusions on its surface which are precisely placed such that when the first and second cylinders are brought in contact and rotated in contra-rotating directions, each of the wells of the first cylinder and a corresponding protrusion of the second cylinder form mating female and male dies. Coal in the female dies is pressed, and the moisture in the coal is squeezed out. The coal remaining in the dies is then delivered to the solid collector via a pusher. The distance between the cylinders may be varied through adjustable cylinder bearings or pillow blocks. Both the male and female dies may be removed and replaced.

  • Patent number: 5385309
Abstract: A wood chip cracking device for use in papermaking employs closely spaced, oppositely rotating rolls which have pyramid-shaped projections on the roll surfaces. This chip destructuring apparatus is rendered readily serviceable with minimal downtime by constructing the roll surface of removable segments which are bolted to a central rotatable shaft. The segments are sized so they can be lifted by a service man. As damage to the roll surface, such as by exposure to tramp metal, is typically limited to a single segment, service and repair of the roll is expedited by permitting removal of a single damaged segment without removing the remaining undamaged segments. Each sector is bored for twelve bolts and is affixed to the central axis by twelve recessed bolts. The surface segments allow the surface to be replaced without removing the rolls from the frame of the wood chip cracking device.

  • Patent number: 5241901
Abstract: A device is described relating to separating mixed substances of differing flowabilities, in particular for the purpose of processing foodstuffs. The processing takes place in a device by which an elastic presser belt is pressed onto the periphery of a hollow separating drum with a perforated wall, so that the substance to be processed consisting of the previously mentioned composition and located between the presser belt and the hollow separating drum is separated into a phase of easily and a phase of less easily flowable components. The present concept provides for the use of two presser belt systems, which are operative one in series with and downstream of the other and influence a hollow separating drum, thus offering the possibility of using presser belts of different softness as well as, in the case of offset arrangement of the presser belt systems, use of varying perforations in the respectively associated circumferential areas.

  • Patent number: 4880501
Abstract: An elastically deformable press cover of a press for dewatering web material, in particular of a dewatering press for paper making machines, or the like. The press cover surrounds a support and is an endless belt. At its outside, which faces toward the web, the press cover has ridges which lie in preferably equidistant diametral planes or run round the cover in the form of a helical line. Between the ridges there remain grooves which are open to the outside. As seen in cross-section, the top lands of the ridges are concave.

  • Patent number: 4861433
Abstract: A pulp dewatering apparatus is constructed of two press rolls arranged juxtaposed to define a nip region. At least one of the press rolls is constructed of a perforated metal outer shell surrounding a substantially rigid inner roll body. A layer of elastic material is disposed between the rigid roll body and the perforated metal shell to provide a resilient member. As a result of the elastic material, this press roll will deform during the dewatering operation to provide an extended nip region of about 3 to 5% of the overall press roll diameter.

  • Patent number: 4790360
Abstract: A wood incising roller where the teeth are formed by grooves in the roller surface and where some of such grooves cross others. Each cutting tooth has a knife-like cutting edge of finite length that is in one instance perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the roller and in another instance parallel to such axis. The grooves can be formed by machine cutting, either turning or grinding or by being molded in the surface and then shaped by a grinding operation. At least some grooves preferrably spiral about the roller. The pattern of cutting teeth and shape are determined by such variable parameters as pitch, number of thread starts, angle of cutter, depth of cut and lead angle. An incisor for lumber or veneer consists of two rollers at least one of which is as described in the forgoing. The grooves can be filled or partially filled with an elastic compressible material. The incising roller of the foregoing also is used in combination with a veneer lathe.

  • Patent number: 4782747
Abstract: A continuous device and process for extracting liquid from mash, sludge or pulp bearing slurries. The device comprises a pair of parallel opposed and counter rotating rolls each consisting of a base roll member having circumferentially disposed grid member consisting of a multiplicity of upright standing leaves which interbolt to form a grid which encases the entire surface of the roll member. Raw material for deliquification is spread over the grid and compressed by an inflatable, reciprocating platen to express liquid through the grid into underlying collection channels. The rolls are then rotated toward each other to express additional liquid and produce a substantially dry material. The liquid collected in the collection channels is withdrawn by applying a negative pressure through orifices located at the axial extent of the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4750340
Abstract: An apparatus for treating a fiber suspension, comprises a drum rotatably journalled to a stand and having an envelope surface to support a fiber web formed from the fiber suspension. A curved wall plate which is concave in the direction to the envelope surface of the drum is spaced from the envelope surface (and generally parallel thereto) to define a material space therebetween for said fiber web. The space includes an axial inlet gap and an axial outlet gap.
