  • Patent number: 5630362
Abstract: A refuse compacting device has dewatering capability and in some cases refuse transporting capability wherein refuse is fed into an outer cylinder in which an axially elongate piston is arranged. The piston is capable of reciprocating motion by a drive motor and threadable piston rod and nut arrangement, whereby refuse is forced towards an outlet of the cylinder. The cylinder is provided with apertures for allowing water to escape from the wet refuse as it is compacted against a conically shaped throttling member at the outlet of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5471921
Abstract: An apparatus for production of dewatered and loosened biopulp, wherein precrushed raw biopulp is press fed by pistons (2) against a pair of counter-rotating press rolls (4, 5) between which the biopulp is dewatered. The pulp is then fed into a backpressure vessel (7) maintained at an overpressure, which prevents water from entering the backpressure vessel and remoistening the biopulp. The biopulp leaves the backpressure vessel through an air-tight compartment feeder (9) constructed like a revolving door. The press rolls include one of solid metal (5) and another (4) with a number of elastically mounted plates which can move radially in response to a radial load.

  • Patent number: 5406883
Abstract: A process is proposed for the dewatering of compressibly dewaterable materials, in particular waste from the processing of paper material, which enables a very high degree of dewatering so that the waste can be readily disposed of, e.g. dumped. For this purpose, the material to be dewatered is initially pre-dewatered by gravity, and usually also by compression, in a transportation section (5). This pre-dewatering can take place in a continually operating feed section (7) through a perforated sieve jacket (10). The material then reaches a press section (6) in which a discontinuously working pressing device is in operation. Further improvements in the dewatering performance are possible by various embodiments of the corresponding pressing elements (13,14). The invention relates to both the process and the device for implemention of the process.

  • Patent number: 5391069
Abstract: A metal shavings and chips compactor for extruding oil from metal chips and shavings and compacting the metal into easily transportable pellets. A compactor cylinder contains a piston and has an opening through which an auger feeds metal chips and shavings. A gate closes an end of the cylinder. A first hydraulic drive drives the piston under low pressure to close the opening and apply a first compacting pressure on the metal to form a loosely compacted pellet in the cylinder. High pressure then operates the piston to form a compact metal pellet substantially void of interstices. A second hydraulic drive opens the gate; the piston is operated at low pressure to discharge the compact metal pellet from the chamber and oil is collected below the cylinder. The compacting pressures are achieved through mechanical advantages provided by the size of the piston to that of the first hydraulic drive.

  • Patent number: 5377584
Abstract: A dejuicing press has a cylindrical main pressing chamber defined by a cylindrical dripping grate. A composite piston arrangement is used in the chamber which includes an internal piston surrounded by an external annular piston. Separate drives are provided for the two pistons so that they can be moved together or separately in the same direction or in opposite directions to effect the various stages of a pressing cycle. The press may also have a pre-pressing chamber which feeds the main pressing chamber and in which a pre-pressing piston operates, and a transfer chamber at one end of the pre-pressing chamber in which there is a third piston.

  • Patent number: 5364539
Abstract: The device of the present invention removes suspended solids from a liquid medium, such as particles in an oil-based sludge. The device includes a filter chamber having an inlet for introducing liquid into the chamber, with the liquid containing suspended solids. The chamber also has an outlet for releasing filtered liquid which is substantially free from suspended solids. The liquid coming into the chamber is forced through a filter element to remove the suspended solids therefrom. The removed solids are compressed in the chamber by a reciprocating piston. When a sufficient quantity of suspended solids accumulate within the chamber, a discharge valve is opened and the compressed solids are discharged from the chamber. The device is operated automatically by a computer, which controls a series of operation cycles, including normal filtering operation, compression of solids, purging of solids, and cleansing of the filter element.
