  • Patent number: 9347182
Abstract: An improved processes for making fluff pulp sheets mechanically eliminates many of the unwanted fiber-to-fiber bonding (fiber bundles) which may be contained in the sheet to produce consistent and uniform quality fluff pulp. Pulp slurry is deposited on a moving bottom forming wire to form a stock web. Pulp slurry is brought into contact with a moving top forming wire. The stock web is subjected to up and down dewatering creating separately formed layers to reduce fiber-to-fiber bonding. The stock web can be subjected to strong pulsating shear forces as it is being advanced along the bottom forming wire to break a majority of fiber bundles contained in the web. The pulp slurry can be deposited on the bottom forming wire utilizing a headbox with dilution control to selectively adjust the concentration of the pulp slurry. A shoe press can be used to dewater the web after it is subjected to the pulsating shear forces. The web can be dried utilizing conventional drying equipment, such as cylindrical driers.

  • Patent number: 7172679
Abstract: A press device with an extended press nip for pressing of a continuous paper or paperboard web comprises a press shoe, a backing member, a support, and a plurality of loading cylinders with main axes in their longitudinal directions. The press shoe can be moved between different positions. A stop member is arranged downstream of the press shoe for transfer between and fixation at different stop positions in the machine direction. At least some of the loading cylinders or the support comprise members eccentrically arranged with respect to one or some of the main axes, which members can be brought into different eccentric positions with respect to the main axes. The eccentric position and the stop position controls the position of the press shoe during the pressing, and thereby the pressure curve.

  • Patent number: 7169259
Abstract: A dry end of a tissue machine is made shorter by close-coupling a reel-up to the drying section and supporting the web from the drying section to the reel-up by a foil or a belt such that web stability is maintained, thus allowing high-speed operation. The foil's downstream edge can form a nip with the paper roll and nip load can be controlled by controlling pivotal movement of the foil. The reel-up can include a calendering belt for calendering the web as it passes through a nip between the belt and a reel drum supported on the belt, and a rotatable reel spool on which a paper roll is wound in nipping engagement with the reel drum. Alternatively, the reel drum can be eliminated and the paper roll can be supported on the belt. A composite shaftless core for winding is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7153392
Abstract: A shoe roll of a shoe press for use in a papermaking machine, the shoe roll including a blanket, or endless belt, which houses a shoe assembly that, in cooperation with an external backing roll, forms an extended nip proper. The shoe press includes an oil circulation piping system for removing the oil from the interior of the shoe roll and transferring the oil to an oil trap during the running of the machine, whereby the piping system also includes a suction fan connected thereto. The device is implemented by way of connecting an oil siphon to the oil circulation piping system, the oil siphon adapted to move towards and away from the blanket in the interior of the shoe roll so that, when the roll is stopped, the siphon removes the excess oil from the interior of the blanket by a pressure differential generated by of the suction fan.

  • Patent number: 7134388
Abstract: A calender for a sheet of paper comprising a metal roll which is rotated by a first driving unit. The calender further comprises a rotatable cylindrical jacket, a pressurizing shoe, and a plurality of support members. The cylindrical jacket is disposed opposite the metal roll to form a calender nip so that the sheet of paper is continuously passed through the calender nip. The pressurizing shoe is provided within the jacket at the position of the calender nip and presses the interior surface of the jacket radially outward to pressurize the calender nip. The support members are disposed inside the jacket so that they are equally balanced in the peripheral direction of the jacket.

  • Patent number: 7074303
Abstract: A shoe press for a papermaking machine having clamping means mounted onto the head from the end thereof remote from the blanket. In one embodiment, the head itself is provided with a wedge surface in engagement with respective inclined surfaces of wedge segments and the blanket extends between these wedge segments and opposing surfaces provided on the clamping means. Axial displacement of the clamping means relative to the head, e.g. by tightening or releasing of bolts, then causes the blanket to be clamped between the wedge segments and the clamping means or to be released and removable therefrom. In another embodiment, it is the clamping means which is provided with wedge surfaces in engagement with respective inclined surfaces of wedge segments, and the blanket then extends between the wedge segments, and an opposing flat surface on the head. However, in other respects axial displacement of the clamping means brings about clamping or release of the blanket edge in the same manner.

Abstract: In a shoe press apparatus of a papermaking machine, a press part comprises a roll which serves as a pressing member and a shoe. A belt is sandwiched between the roll and the shoe. A lubricant feeder supplies a lubricant from the outside of the shoe at the upstream side of the shoe. A lubricant holding section, comprising a plurality of grooves is provided on the upstream end of the shoe. Lubricant supplied from the lubricant feeder is held in the lubricant holding section of the shoe, and is more reliably supplied to the press part as the belt runs through the press part. • Patent number: 6932888
Abstract: A flexible press cover which has an additional strengthening element in at least one of its two end regions. As a result, in the end region, the tensile strength and the tensile rigidity in the circumferential direction are increased with respect to that hitherto known in such a way that it is no longer necessary to clamp the press cover end region in between two components. Instead, the press cover according to the present invention is suitable to be fixed to the outer circumferential surface of a rotatable supporting element belonging to the cover carrying disk without the aid of an outer ring, a clamping band, clamping filament or the like. In the most beneficial case, the arrangement for fixing the press cover to the aforementioned supporting element is completely free of any kind of fixing elements which would be associated with the cover outer surface.
