Abstract: In a large-part transfer press, several forming stations are arranged below a common slide in order to minimize cost. The bedplate construction has two longitudinal or basic supports. On each support, one bedplate per forming station is transversely placed and fastened as required. Driving of the slide takes place by two mutually independent head pieces which, depending on the number of stations, are arranged side-by-side at a distance. Each of the head pieces spans only one forming station.

This arrangement has two spaced transport rails which are arranged parallel to one another and which can be moved by motors horizontally in a longitudinal direction thereof, vertically up and down and horizontally toward one another. Each individual transport rail is pivotally connected for a horizontal movement in each case by way of a coupling rod. Traverses are operatively connected by way of at least one of the coupling rods with one respective transport rail. • Patent number: 5749290
Abstract: A multi-station press is provided with a press transfer device that engages articles at the press stations after processing and transfers the articles to the next station before the press performs its next press cycle. The press transfer device includes a pair of elongated transfer bars extending along the transfer directions of the press, and grippers or other article engaging elements mounted along the transfer bars to engage the articles for transfer. The transfer bars are moved together by a grip moving unit to engage the articles, the transfer bars are lifted by a lifter, the transfer bars are then moved endwise by an endwise moving unit to the next press station. The lifter then lowers the bars and the grip moving unit moves the bars apart to disengage the articles, thereby leaving the articles at the next station. The grip moving unit ensures that the transfer bars are moved far enough apart so as not to interfere with the press during the next press cycle.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method according to which workpieces are fed and subjected to stamping by continuously operating a press in which a plurality of slides operating with a difference in phase are arranged laterally in a straight line. A longitudinal feeding device for longitudinally feeding workpieces is provided in each slide. Each slide and the longitudinal feeding device thereof operate in synchronism with each other, so that even when the press is continuously operated, the workpieces can be fed without involving any interference between the press and the transfer device. Further, the feeding of workpieces in the lateral direction, which is executed as needed, is effected outside the machining stage, so that there is no interference regardless of the difference in phase of the slides, whereby it is possible to feed workpieces without having to intermittently operate the press.

Abstract: A simple combination of conventional operations uses a twin press configuration of tandem stationary, vertically acting heating and cooling platen presses in separate frames which share a fixed, hybrid bottom platen in a laminating machine. A set of sheets to be laminated is sandwiched between cover plates of a book which is loaded by rollingly transferring it with an edge-conveyor means, into the heating press. The path in which the book is processed ("process-path") starts at an entrance station and progresses linearly through the daylights. The system operates with a minimum cycle time based on the physical properties of the sheets to be laminated. Successive books may be loaded, in a machine using only two single daylight openings; or, in ganged single daylights; depending upon the capacity per unit time sought. A novel quick-locking carrier is provided in which a sandwich to be laminated is held.

  • Patent number: 4378592
Abstract: A power press arrangement including one or more workpiece handling mechanisms such as loaders, unloaders, turnover devices, conveyors, etc. The various workpiece handling mechanisms are controlled in synchronism with the press or presses through numerical control systems which are coordinated with press slide positions. For each axis of controlled movement, a discrete number of desired position locations are loaded into an associated press control memory, and the data is processed into a derived motion table for each axis and followed to effect axis motion in coordination with press slide position. During operation of the press, the associated control system continuously derives motion control parameters for the controlled axes based upon the tabular values. The actual position of each controlled mechanism is also monitored and compared with the desired position at repetitive time increments to detect any position errors.

A cam is fixed to the first shaft and a cam arm having a cam follower is secured to the second shaft. The second shaft has abutment element which engage against an adjustable stop to limit the extent of return motion of the second shaft, the adjustable stop being readily accessible for manual adjustment. A driven arm is connected to the second shaft for moving a feed device to the work station and the angular position of the driven arm relative to the second shaft is adjustable whereby the forward limit of motion of the feed device can be controlled.

Abstract: In press line operations, a workpiece conveyor device is necessary to carry workpieces from one press to another. Preferably, this conveyor should be readily removable for repairs, adaptable to a large number of presses, and readily reprogrammable to adapt to a variety of workpieces. To achieve this, a conveyor is provided having a cross member mounted on a movable carriage which moves along a track on a frame bridging the intermediate space between two presses. Horizontal movement of the carriage along the track, vertical movement of the cross member on the carriage, and movement of a positioning device for the workpieces is provided by setting drives controlled by a continuous-path numerical control unit. For repairs, the entire frame can be moved out of the intermediate space in a direction at a right angle to the direction of workpiece travel.
