  • Patent number: 4614154
Abstract: A peanut butter press feeding mechanism has a peanut supply hopper which is controlled by a release gate to supply a volumetric feeder. The volumetric feeder ensures that each of four intermediate holding hoppers at a peanut butter press are filled to capacity. A second release gate controls the outlet of the volumetric feeder, which releases the peanuts into a totalizing scale which weighs peanuts supplied to all four of the intermediate holding hoppers. The totalizing scale supplies peanuts to a conveying arrangement having diverting gates which supply the appropriate intermediate holding hopper with a full supply of peanuts. During operation of the peanut butter press, a predetermined amount of oil is removed from the peanuts based upon the total weight of the peanuts used. This is necessary since merely knowing the volume of the peanuts used is insufficient due to the fluctuations in density of each batch of peanuts.

  • Patent number: 4601238
Abstract: A machine for crushing metal cans into rectangular blocks or bales wherein cans are fed through a precrusher, which flattens and rips open the cans to drain liquids therefrom and leaves protruding torn tabs and flaps that facilitate bonding of the cans into a self-sustaining bale. The flattened cans are collected in a charging bin until a predetermined weight is reached; then the cans are released into a bale-forming chamber, which is closed by a hinged door forming an initial compression member. A ram then compresses the cans longitudinally in the chamber, the ram having ribs on the compression face to form grooves in the bale for future stack-retaining straps. A sliding door opens the end of the baling chamber for ejection of the formed bale by continued extension of the ram.

  • Patent number: 4557190
Abstract: To compact such scrap materials as relatively comminuted chip, waste, and the like, an apparatus is provided which comprises a vertically extending briguetting machine, upstream whereof there is provided at least one horizontal pre-compression device. The briquetting machine has a portal-like configuration and a vertical compacting ram arranged to penetrate a side intake feed chamber and a vertical axis die. A closure anvil is movable under the die. The die is mounted with a small clearance in the die holder and has an indentation along one generatrix of the outer surface. Thus, the die will be ruptured along the generatrix line during the compression stroke. This does not jeopardize functionality but rather makes die replacement easier. The vertical arrangement eliminates eccentric wear as due to the weight of the horizontally moving elements of known briquetting machines, and facilitates the intaking of the pre-compressed material.

The relative movement of the pressing members and transfer of the packagings when relative movement of the pressing chambers has ceased is controlled by a regulating mechanism such that when compressive forces of a magnitude within a predetermined range required for packagings of the type of material in question allow the pressing members to move towards each other to complete the pressing operations whereby the packagings are compressed to a size before transfer to a collecting device. In the case of compressive forces of a magnitude outside the predetermined range, the packagings are prevented from being transferred to the collecting device.

  • Patent number: 4464987
Abstract: Refuse delivered into an elevatable pivoted dumping bin is transferred by gravity and by the operation of a positive pusher element into a hopper bin above and in communication with a horizontal axis ram compactor. The hopper bin/ram compactor unit is interfaced with a large volume refuse transporting container which is removed to a refuse dumping site periodically. The system is capable of on-site operation for extended periods of time with minimal operator attendance. The system assures a substantially trash-free environment.

  • Patent number: 4463669
Abstract: A system for segregating and baling textile wastes supplied from a plurality of separate sources embodies a plurality of filling stations which receive the wastes from the separate sources. An upwardly opening portable waste receiving bin is mounted within each filling station with the lower end of each bin carrying a detachable bottom platen. A transfer mechanism moves each bin selectively, back and forth between its filling station and a compression station where the wastes are compressed within the bin. Actuator units in the compression station disconnect the bin from its platen and raise the bin to an upper position about a movable ram to thus expose the bale for final bale out.

  • Patent number: 4462741
Abstract: A crank type, C-frame pressing machine in which a robot for loading a workpiece and unloading a fabricated product is built-in within a space enclosed by the frame behind a fabricating station, with a pair of chucks on a feed bar extending across the front of the machine. The robot comprises a lift cam and a feed cam. Swing arms are provided each of which abuts the periphery of each of the cams, which arms are adapted to be actuated in conformity with the cam profiles. An actuation system is operatively connected to the swing arms and serves to transmit the actuation of swing arms to the feed bar. The actuation system includes a lift arm operatively engaging the swing arm for the lift cam and a drive arm operatively engaging the swing arm for the feed cam, the lift arm and the drive arm being constructed so that both are coupled to the feed bar, the former being movable vertically and the latter being movable vertically and laterally, to thereby transmit the vertical and lateral movements to the feed bar.

  • Patent number: 4459906
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for evacuating and compacting filled aerosol cans. The cans are manually placed into a feed chute and sensing means are provided to confirm proper can orientation and to permit gravity feed of the can into a crushing mechanism. A hydraulic ram pushes the can against a stator plate. A punch reciprocates through an opening in the stator plate puncturing the bottom of the can so that the contents discharge into a receiver where the liquid contents are separated from the propellent and recovered. An air logic means controls the sequencing of the operative steps. The apparatus can be used in an explosive area.

  • Patent number: 4453459
Abstract: An apparatus and method for crushing cylindrical cans is disclosed. The apparatus and method are particularly useful for crushing cylindrical beverage cans such as those commonly used as containers for soft drinks and beer. The cans are crushed along their longitudinal axes by parallel crushing faces which each move towards each other along predetermined arcual paths. The faces are continuously moving along an arcual path so that the faces crush the can and then move away from the can to discharge it from the bottom of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4442766
Abstract: A mobile vehicle for crushing scrap metal, especially for flattening car body shells, has a crusher jaw mechanism (11) carried ahead of a generally conventional vehicle body (12). The jaw includes a press plate (55) above a platform (31). The car body shell (90) is loaded on to the platform by advancing the vehicle towards the body shell and driving the platform under the shell, and is then crushed between the press plate and the platform. The jaw mechanism may be carried on an arm or arms (13) which can be raised and lowered. Side plates (32) and a rear gate (80) may be provided on the crusher jaw mechanism to contain light scrap. The jaws may be tiltable, and may be provided with front fork tines (71) to act as an entry ramp and for manipulating the body shells before and after flattening.

  • Patent number: 4419168
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for handling gasket-forming material. This material is usually supplied in tubular cartridge form and is dispensed to a screen with a porous pattern which shapes the material to the desired gasket-configuration. The material is spread on the screen and forced through to the other side where the gasket pattern is applied to an adjacent transfer surface of a transfer pad. This pad with the pattern on the transfer surface is moved to a mateable surface of a workpiece located on a support spaced from the screen. The gasket-forming material is then transferred to the mateable surface. The gasket-forming material is dispensed from the cartridge with the aid of a cartridge holder having an opening at one end to receive a spout of the cartridge and having a plunger at the other end with a plunger rod extending outwardly therefrom. A fluid-operated cylinder is aligned with the plunger rod and has a piston connected with the rod.
