  • Patent number: 7299746
Abstract: A refuse bin comprises a refuse container (10) having a top opening (12) and a lid (14) hinged relative to the container to cover the opening. A compacting mechanism is fitted to the lid and comprises a compacting plate (22) mounted under the lid and an actuating rod (24) coupled to the compacting plate through an aperture (26) in the lid. The coupling is such that the rod (24) may be maneuvered from a storage position wherein the rod lies across the top surface of the lid and the plate is drawn up under the lid to an operative position wherein the rod stands upright over the aperture in the lid and may be pushed downwardly through the aperture to push the plate down into the container. The compacting mechanism further comprises a ratchet mechanism (50, 52, 54) for releasably locking the actuating rod (24) against movement upwardly through the aperture in the lid such that refuse in the container can be compacted by force applied to an edge (48) of the lid opposite the hinge.

  • Patent number: 5746126
Abstract: This invention relates to a rubbish compression apparatus, comprising: a base plate; a main body, mounted on the base plate, into which the rubbish will be thrown; a roughly funnel-shaped compress tube, taking in the rubbish that has been thrown in; a compressing device, having a first pressing plate, which uses a threaded shaft; a shaft, which passes glidingly through the first pressing plate and the threaded shaft along their longitudinal axis; a second pressing plate, mounted below the first pressing plate on the low end of the shaft; and an anvil plate, mounted below an opening in the lower part of the compression tube. The second pressing plate is taken by the shaft to enter the compression tube and pre-compresses the rubbish. After that, the first pressing plate is driven down by use of the threaded shaft, pushing the second pressing plate to further compress the rubbish.

  • Patent number: 5732622
Abstract: A machine for manufacturing corrugated board including one or more flexible, disposable covers for the pressure-applying feet of the machine. The covers prevent wear and tear to the bottoms of the pressure-applying feet and may be easily replaced, as needed. In a belt-driven machine, the disposable covers may be located between the pressure-applying feet and the conveyor belt. In a machine with a beltless hotplate section, the conveyor belt is replaced by a pulling section located downstream from the hotplate section and the disposable covers may be located between the pressure-applying feet and the moving surface. The covers allow the thickness of the corrugated board to be varied while the board is moving through the machine without causing the leading edge of an added layer to catch on the upstream edges of the pressure-applying feet. In addition, the covers and/or the pressure applicators may be moved in the cross-machine direction to minimize waste when manufacturing different widths of corrugated board.

  • Patent number: 5644979
Abstract: In a die cutting press for elongated material, a registration system includes a die unit that is shiftable along the path of travel of the material, along a direction of travel transverse to the path of travel, and about a reference axis perpendicular to a plane containing the material. At least one camera is provided for receiving images from the desired locations that are occupied by indicia on the material when defined areas of the material are in a predetermined relationship relative to the die unit. Reference image data representative of the desired locations of the indicia relative to the die unit is produced so that a comparison can be made between the reference image data and the actual positions of the indicia.

  • Patent number: 5638747
Abstract: A rubbish container with automatic compressing mechanism mainly including a housing, a plurality of rubbish bins positioned inside the housing to collect sorted rubbish, movement control channels provided in the housing to support a transversely extended top board, and an automatic compressing mechanism mounted on the top board. A motor is connected to one end of one of the movement control channels to rotate a threaded rod therein, so that the top board connected to the threaded rod and the compressing mechanism on the top board are brought to translate along the movement control channels to and fro in the housing over the rubbish bins. The compressing mechanism has a motor to drive a compressing member and a compressing plate connected to a lower end of the compressing member to move up and down, compressing rubbish collected in the rubbish bins to a reduced volume.

  • Patent number: 5619915
Abstract: The present invention is a manually operated trash compactor with a refuse container mounted on a mobile platform. The container has a first section fixed to the platform and a second section pivotally attached to the first section. A latch is mounted to the container to hold the container closed during compaction. A compaction plate is mounted to a rack gear and pinion gear assembly. The assembly is rotatable between a starting position, with the compaction plate disposed over the refuse container, and a position lateral to the container. A drive wheel is connected to the pinion gear to rotate the pinion gear to selectively adjust the rack gear and compaction plate into the container to compress refuse in the container lined with a trash bag. A compression spring is mounted on the rack gear to facilitate automated return of the compaction plate to its starting position. A tension adjuster is in contact with the rack gear to control the rate of return of the rack gear.

  • Patent number: 5386767
Abstract: An automatic control for a cotton module builder controls the traversing motor which moves the tamping mechanism in a horizontal direction atop the cotton module builder as well as the packing cylinder which moves a tamping platen up and down. The automatic controller operates continuously in predetermined cycles having adjustable durations. In a first portion of each predetermined cycle the tamping platen is moved up. In a second portion of each predetermined cycle the tamping platen is moved down to compress any cotton within the bin of the cotton module builder located directly below the tamping mechanism.
