Range Of Movement Adjustment Patents (Class 100/257)
  • Patent number: 5105649
Abstract: A progressive former having quick-change tooling provides tooling supports with means for adjusting the tools. The tooling is mounted so that the tooling and the structure for adjusting the tooling can be removed as units without loss of the fine-tuning of the adjustments and so that reinstallation does not require readjustment of the tooling. A transfer also provides adjustable cams for opening and closing gripper fingers which transport workpieces from one work station to the next. The adjustable cams are removable with the dies as units and can be reinstalled without further fine-tune adjustment. With the invention, entire tool sets can be changed in a very short time to eliminate loss of production capacity of the machine. Similar sized machines are provided with a fixed spacing between the locating surfaces for the stationary dies and the reciprocating tools so that tool sets having adjustments fine-tuned in one machine can be installed in a similar machine without further retuning of the adjustments.

  • Patent number: 5090282
Abstract: The limiting of the movement of the stroke of the ram is made by at least one fixed abutment. At least one fixed abutment includes a feeler, which determines the elastic deformation of the respective abutment which is generated by the striking force of the ram. The outgoing signals of the respective sensor are led to a control unit for the adjusting of the height position of the ram. This adjusting of the height position of the ram proceeds via an adjusting motor followed by a gear train. By means of the fixed abutments the position of the lower dead point of the ram relative to the punching tool lower part may be adjusted in accordance with the prevailing conditions. Conclusively, it is also possible to exactly set the depth of immersion of the punching tool upper part with its dies in the punching tool lower part, which thus can amount also to 0 or even less.

  • Patent number: 5088400
Abstract: In a press having a lower stationary platen, an upper movable platen, a hydraulic ram that travels with the upper platen, light-duty cylinders that position the upper platen, and a gate mechanism that closes above the ram to permit the ram to drive the upper platen during compression phases of operation, method and apparatus for adjusting the clearance between the upper and lower platens. A number of cylindrical spacers can be distributed, as desired, between an upper end of the ram and a spacer retaining mechanism located above the gate mechanism. The spacers are shaped to vertically interlock to form a stable stack atop the ram. The retaining mechanism extends downwardly from an upper cross-head of the press and is received in the interior of the stack of spacers. The retaining mechanism has spring-biased locking members that can locate below an internal lip of any spacer.

Abstract: The balancing weights are hingedly mounted at their lower ends to link rods. These link rods are hingedly mounted to an extended section of first rods. At opposite ends the balancing weights are hingedly mounted to reversing levers that in turn are hingedly mounted to second rods. The first rods and the second rods are supported on a common eccentric sleeve. Accordingly, the drive of the balancing weights does not come from structural members of the machine which are directly mounted to the ram. Accordingly, no mass forces and oscillations of the balancing weights and of the structures driving same can be transmitted onto the ram. Conclusively, the moving sequence of the ram and accordingly the cutting or embossing action is no longer influenced detrimentally such that the quality of a respective product produced is improved.

  • Patent number: 4987794
Abstract: A pusher rod extends lengthwise through the eccentric shaft. An additional disk clutch is located inside of the flywheel, which disk clutch is connected to a shaft section, which engages the pusher rod via a screw thread connection. This allows the drive of the punching press to translatorically shift the pusher rod via the further disk clutch. The pusher rod operates the movement of a locking pin, which locks the eccentric shaft to the eccentric bushing by a corresponding translatoric movement. The pusher rod operates furthermore a braceable coupling disk which transmits the driving force from the eccentric shaft to the drive apparatus of the workpiece feed drive. In order to operate these control units when adjusting the stroke of the press it is merely necessary to operate the machine drive in one or the other sense of rotation causing a corresponding closing or opening of clutches and locking members.

Abstract: An electro-mechanical heart compressor system for use in rendering first aid in cases of heart stoppage provides a constant-stroke-length, motor driven reciprocating plunger extending downwardly through a first or upper mounting plate. A second or lower mounting plate with uprights at the ends provides a support for a patient and adjustably holds above it the upper mounting plate in position with the plunger above a mark designating the proper location for the patient's heart. The reciprocation is provided by an electric motor acting through a crank and slotted yoke adjustably affixed to the shaft of the plunger, which shaft is held in guides.

  • Patent number: 4630516
Abstract: An eccentric press which can be constructed a single connecting rod machine or a twin connecting rod machine is described. The press includes a stroke adjustment means having a support lever which is articulately connected at the joint between the two portions of a lever arrangement. The articulation joint is guided on an adjustable path of movement and the foot point of the support lever is guided variably in its position on a circular arc, the center point of the circular arc coinciding with the position of the articulation point which corresponds to the bottom dead center of the ram. As a result, a change in the ram stroke does not change the bottom dead center of the ram, only one ram stroke being executed per connecting rod revolution.

  • Patent number: 4620352
Abstract: A shop press that includes a fixed-height table capable of supporting a workpiece. A ram assembly is mounted for vertical movement over the table. The ram assembly carries a fluid power head, and is arranged to permit the head to be moved horizontally so as to position the head at any desired location relative to the device table and a workpiece carried thereon. A system for vertically moving the ram assembly includes a cable arrangement connected between dual drums on the table and pulleys journaled on ram assembly legs. As the cable is wound upon or let off the drums, the ram assembly is moved upwardly or downwardly. A slip clutch and brake assembly permits the ram assembly to be moved upwardly without the interference of frictional force, but a frictional drag brake action is applied as the ram is moved downwardly to control such downward movement.

  • Patent number: 4587725
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically crimping terminals to electric wires by a cooperation between a pressing punch driven through a press ram and a stationary anvil. The apparatus has a crimp height adjusting mechanism which includes a tapered spacer movable perpendicularly to the press ram, a stopper member having a complementary tapered surface and slidably placed on the tapered spacer so as to be able to move only vertically as the tapered spacer is moved. The stopper member has an upper surface adapted to be contacted by a portion of the press ram thereby determining the stroke end of the press ram. The tapered spacer is slidingly moved in a controlled manner by an electric motor, so that the heightwise position of the stopper member is changed to allow a delicate adjustment of the lower stroke end of the press ram. In consequence, the crimp height is automatically adjusted minutely in accordance with the diameter of the electric wire to be processed.

  • Patent number: 4386304
Abstract: In control drives for high speed blanking presses, a serious problem of excessive tool wear arises from increases in the immersion depth of a top tool into its associated bottom tool when the stroke frequency increases. To overcome this, a control drive is provided wherein the top tool is held at a substantially constant immersion depth in the opening in the bottom tool over the entire stroke frequency range of the press. A measuring instrument detects the stroke frequency. This detected frequency is fed into a control circuit programmed with a characteristic corresponding to either immersion depth or ram adjustment as a function of stroke frequency. The output of the control circuit is a control signal coupled to a drive motor to maintain the constant immersion depth.
