Abstract: The invention relates to driving means for displacing two elongate members, the driving means comprising: a first set of at least a row of primary rollers and a row of secondary rollers; a second set of at least a row of primary rollers and a row of secondary rollers; wherein the first set is connected to a first member and the second set is connected to a second member; and wherein a belt serpentines between the primary rollers of the first set and the primary rollers of the second set along the length of the members and serpentines back between the secondary rollers of the first set and the secondary rollers of the second set.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a press of pressure cell type comprising a forming tool and, separated therefrom, a diaphragm, which define a forming space in which a blank is inserted for forming thereof against the forming tool by pressing the diaphragm against the blank. A blank portion projecting from the forming space is gripped by means of at least one gripping device and the connection between the blank and the gripping device is shielded from the diaphragm at least when the diaphragm is pressed against the blank. The invention further relates to a press of pressure cell type and a tray device.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a press of pressure cell type, a tray for use in a press of pressure cell type and a method. The tray comprises a tray frame, which defines a space for arranging a forming tool and/or a work-piece. Prestressing means are arranged on the external surface of the tray frame and induce a compressing prestress which acts in planes parallel to the plane of the tray. The tray frame presents a curvature along its entire circumference.
Abstract: A compaction mechanism uses cables to move a compaction plate within a compaction chamber of a garbage truck. Cable guide pulleys are positioned adjacent a first end and a second end of the compaction chamber. Each cable has a first end and a second end, both of which are secured to the compaction plate. A winch-like drive assembly is used to concurrently move the cables to pull the compaction plate. This compaction mechanism is better able to withstand uneven resistance on the compaction plate without twisting.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a frameless high pressure press. The high pressure press includes first and second opposed plates that are at least partially surrounded by a wrapping structure. A lift device is positioned on one of the first and second plates at a location offset from the wrapping structure. The press also includes a linkage structure that transfers force generated by the lift device to the wrapping structure such that the wrapping structure forces the plates together. The linkage structure includes a tensioning member connected to the wrapping structure and generally transversely aligned with respect to the plates. The linkage structure also includes a cross member that extends between the lift device and the tensioning mechanism. The length of the tensioning member can be adjusted to control the level of force multiplication generated by the press.
Abstract: An apparatus for compressing a container having a base and a top. The apparatus includes a housing and a lid which releasibly attaches to the housing. The lid contains a hole or recess to receive the top of a container. The apparatus also includes a shelf which has a top side containing at least one recess adapted to receive the base of the container. The shelf and the lid cooperate to hold the container securely. Additionally, the apparatus may include rods and the shelf may contain orifices to receive the rods. The shelf travels along the rods such that it remains parallel and aligned with the lid. Finally, gears, belts, or handles serve to force the shelf against the lid and thereby crush the container held between the lid and the shelf.
Abstract: The device for crushing metal cans has a supporting structure and a crushing head mounted on the supporting structure and forming a region for resting the can to be crushed. The crushing head supports two presser elements arranged mutually opposite along a main axis proximate to the resting region. The device also has a mechanism for moving one of the presser elements towards the other presser element and rotating it about the main axis with respect to the other presser element, whereby to crush a can interposed between the two presser elements.
Abstract: A railroad car trash compactor includes an elongated box defining an elongated trash compartment therein. A compactor blade is movably mounted within the box and is movable from a fill position adjacent the forward end of the box to a discharge position adjacent the rear end of the box. Discharge doors are openable at the rear end of the box to permit the expelling of trash from the box by means of the trash compactor. Steam jets are provided within the compartment for cleaning the compartment.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for working plate-shaped material, the device being provided with a frame and a pair of cooperating elongated working members. One of these working members has a stationary arrangement in the frame, while the other is movable in the frame, transversely to its longitudinal direction, towards and away from the stationary working member. Both the frame and the movable member are each provided with a plurality of rollers which, when seen in the longitudinal direction of the working members, are arranged one behind the other. An endless belt is passed over the series of rollers. The belt is fixed at one end and is at it other end connected with a driving means, by which the belt can be moved in its longitudinal direction to draw the movable member and frame closer together, or to permit them to move apart under the influence of an external opposing force.
Abstract: A cheese press for a plurality of rows of cheese moulds is constituted by a plurality of individual cassette shaped pressing units (30) each adapted to receive a row of moulds or mould batteries and each ceilingwise provided with pressing means (68) for pressing the moulds. Each of these units can be made as a lightweight construction e.g. of stainless sheet steel and is preferably made as a heat insulated tube, which is endwise closable so as to be vacuum resistent. Especially the production of Cheddar cheese is highly accelerated when the pressing is effected under vacuum. The cassette units may be arranged in a conveyor system for consecutive cooperation with a loading and unloading station, or they may be arranged more or less stationarily for cooperation with means for transporting the moulds to and from the cassette units.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for draining whey from cheese curd and for manufacturing blocks of cheese. A mould of flat perforated wall panels, a perforated bottom plate and a perforated follower plate, all of plastic material, enclosed by metal hoops is filled with cheese curd. A perforated follower plate is placed on top of the cheese curd, on which an increasing pressing force is exerted. The mould is cooled during at least part of the time period of increasing pressure.
Abstract: A press plant with a forming press of the pressure cell type for enhancing the forming space of the press, especially with regard to depth, which is accomplished according to the invention in that the tray has a planar bottom plate with a detachable tray frame resting thereon, the axial loads induced by the working pressure on the short ends of the tray frame in this manner being absorbed by an annular frame or the like, whereby the forming space of the inventive press plate will not be restricted by working pressure dependent dimensioning factors.

Both the movable end wall and the pair of side rams include means to advance and retract one another respectively. The stationary end wall and the movable end wall have mating V-shaped grooves in which the open portion of the groove mates with the open end of the other groove, and the apex of each V-shaped groove is positioned on substantially the same horizontal plane. The pair of side rams are shaped to advance and retract within the mating V-shaped grooves.
Abstract: A press has a framework (1) which supports a pressure plate (3). The pressure plate is attached to a fluid operated ram assembly (4) by means of gimbals (20) so that the pressure plate (3) may adopt different angular attitudes relative to the load being compressed. In order to prevent the ram assembly (4) being subjected to stress the ram assembly (4) is mounted on the framework (1) by means of gimbals (18). The freedom of movement of the pressure plate (3) laterally is restrained by opposed pins (26) which engage loosely in slots (27) on the frame and stops (28) on the opposed pins. The press may be used to compress a palletized load, such as cardboard box blanks, prior to banding.

Abstract: An improved can crusher has two movable jaws, a first jaw and a second jaw, both movably mounted in a support housing. The jaws are initially spaced apart one from the other a distance sufficient to allow a can to be inserted between them. A member capable of generating a mechanical force is mounted on the housing and is directly connected by a connecting member to the second of the movable jaws by a force transferring member and is indirectly connected by the same connecting member to the first jaw by a force modifying member. The force modifying member modifies the mechanical force so generated to achieve a mechanical advantage. When the member capable of generating the mechanical force is activated this force is first transferred to the first jaw, and because of the mechanical advantage achieved, the first jaw is able to initially overcome the structural resistance of the can and crimp it.
Abstract: A hold-down beam is provided on a rapid acceleration conveyor to hold articles, such as an unstable stack of newspapers, tightly against the conveyor for providing frictional engagement between the stack and the conveyor and move the upper part of the stack with the conveyor so that the stack will not topple. The hold-down bar is unpowered, that is, it is mounted for reciprocation in low-friction bearings so that its own frictional engagement with the top of the stack carries it along with the top of the stack until the stack is brought up to the desired velocity. A unique cable system for lowering both ends of a hold-down bar synchronously through an infinite number of positions and does not interfere with operation of a strapping machine.

A retainer is movable to and from a position overlying the compression space for retaining the articles in their compressed condition in the compression space until the pressure member moves downwardly again through the chamber to compress further articles into the compression space. A ram is provided for discharging the compressed articles from the compression space to a bagging apparatus.

Abstract: A stamping press with an augmented power stroke has a support with a guide portion in which is slidably seated a ram having an elongated passage therein parallel to the axis of movement thereof and a head portion at one end for mounting tooling thereon. A plurality of pulley members are spaced equiangularly about and secured to the other end of the ram with the rotational axes thereof being perpendicular to the axis of movement of the ram. A piston is slidably seated in the passage in the ram and is driven in reciprocating movement by an air cylinder operatively connected to the end thereof adjacent the pulley members. Chain members equal in number to the pulley members are connected at one end to the aforementioned end of the piston and at the other end to the support at a point spaced axially of the ram from the pulley members toward the head portion thereof, each chain member extending intermediate its length about one of the pulley members.

Abstract: A standard trailer van is disclosed which is adapted to load compressible materials in sequential steps resulting in a compressed product which allows larger quantities of the compressible product to be loaded than heretofore known. The adapted van includes a power winch and pulley arrangement located beneath the trailer van and a cable assembly which is a part of and controlled by the pulley arrangement. The cable assembly is connected to a moveable bulkhead which is used to force the compressible materials into a compressed state when activated by the power winch.
Abstract: An improved compacter for flattening or compacting metal cans and the like wherein the can is initially positioned between a pair of spaced gripping members, the gripping members being subsequently moved toward each other compacting the can disposed therebetween. The gripping members grippingly engage the can and secure the can in a stationary position with respect to each of the gripping members and one of the gripping members is initially rotated as the gripping members are moved toward each other thereby twisting and weakening the structural integrity of the can to facilitate the compacting thereof.
