Abstract: A can and bottle crusher and separator with stationary and oscillating tooth jaw plates confronting each other and converging with each other in a downward direction and dropping crushed glass and metal containers into the discharge chute. A glass discharging port in the bottom of the discharge chute directs glass particles directly into a collecting barrel. A gate is provided to alternately close the chute or to close the glass discharge port. The chute has a separating wheel at its bottom end to initially stop and then propel aluminum cans over the top of it. The wheel has magnetic belts to carry steel containers around with the wheel until they are stripped off and dropped into an appropriate barrel.

  • Patent number: 4358994
Abstract: An apparatus to flatten a container such as a can employed in the soft drink or beer industry. The apparatus is so designed so as to initially bend the can in half and following the bending of the can in half, the can is then flattened or compressed so as to present a relatively thin laminate. The apparatus is designed to operate in a timed sequence of operation of thus effect the bending of the can and subsequently flatten the same.

  • Patent number: 4355574
Abstract: A liquid-expressing tong-like implement for removing liquid from a can of food product containing solid food product immersed in liquid formed as a pair of scissor-like elongated arms pivoted together and having a finger loop formation at handle-forming rear end portions thereof and front end portions at the ends opposite said finger loop formations providing loop-shaped jaw formations. One of the jaw formation loops has a generally straight rod-like front leg portion extending transversely of its associated elongated arm, and a flat platen member sized to fit into an opened food product can to exert pressing forces onto the solid food product is pivotally coupled to the rod-like leg portion for pivotal movement about that transversely arranged leg portion. The other of the jaw formation loops defines a flat portion to engage the bottom of the opened can.

  • Patent number: 4355575
Abstract: A motor driven drive is provided for a press in the nature of a baling press which translates rotary motion into reciprocating pressing motion of a pressing plate. The translation of motion is through a drive system which is flexible and adjustably connected to the drive of the plate to assure minimized frictional operation of the plate by reason of a rotary and tilting type of drive screw mechanism. Electrical switch means is provided for controlling the actuation of the plate in accordance with the development of the bale which is being pressed.

  • Patent number: 4351465
Abstract: Apparatus for pressing nailing plates or the like into opposite ends of elongate members, such as wooden railroad ties, thereby to end-plate the ties. The apparatus comprises a press having upper and lower platens engageable with the top and bottom faces of a tie adjacent the ends thereof. The lower platens are movable through an upstroke for raising the tie while generally horizontal from a lowered position to an elevated position and for pressing the tie against the upper platens thereby to apply a vertical compressing force to the tie adjacent the ends thereof, and a downstroke for lowering the tie. Side platens are engageable with opposite side faces of the tie adjacent the ends thereof when the tie is in its elevated position. The side platens are movable toward and away from one another whereby a horizontal compressing force can be applied to and removed from the opposite side faces of the tie adjacent the ends thereof.

  • Patent number: 4351233
Abstract: An expandable bag is supported on a base and is associated with first and second platen means. The first platen is movable in a pressing operation relative to the second platen by expansion and contraction of the bag. The second platen is movable relative to the first platen in a plane parallel with the pressing surfaces of the platen for loading articles onto and unloading them from the first platen. The second platen has backup support for pressing functions by the frame of the press. The second platen is carried on a wheeled support for its movement in a plane parallel with the pressing surfaces and is associated with shock absorbers at the limits of its travel. Controls are provided for sequence functioning of the expandable bag and the second platen. The press has an opening at the top adjacent the front which is opened and closed by movement of the second platen.

  • Patent number: 4333396
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for a two-stage crushing of empty cans along their longitudinal axes to collapse them to minimum bulk. The apparatus has a stanchion fixed to a base and long and short lever arms pivotally mounted on the stanchion. A pivotal linkage interconnects the long lever arm with the short lever arm. First and second crush heads are pivotally mounted between the base and the long and short lever arms with a pantograph type linkage to control the attitude of the crush heads. In the first stage of crushing, the can is placed between the first of the crush heads and the base, and the long lever arm is moved toward the base to partially crush the can axially. In the second stage, the partially collapsed can is placed between the base and the second crush head. The long lever arm is moved toward the base thereby moving the short lever arm toward the base and the can is thereby completely axially crushed.
