  • Patent number: 9874838
Abstract: An apparatus includes a fuser assembly including a heat transfer member. The heat transfer member includes a substrate, first and second resistive traces disposed on the substrate, and a temperature sensor disposed on the substrate for sensing an end portion thereof. A controller is coupled to the fuser assembly and is operative to control a fusing temperature of the heat transfer member during a fusing operation when a temperature sensed by the temperature sensor falls outside a predetermined range by gradually changing a set-point temperature for at least one of the first and second resistive traces from an initial set-point temperature to an adjusted set-point temperature such that an amount of heat generated by the at least one of the first and second resistive traces is adjusted without changing a fusing speed of the fuser assembly.

  • Patent number: 8127462
Abstract: A dryer uses conduits to carry a heating medium, such as steam, to heat the outer surface of the dryer. The volume of steam is successfully reduced to non-explosive levels and the shell need not be designed to prevent an explosion. Conduits may be formed through the shell itself or grooves may be formed on the inner surface of the shell, with the conduits retained within the grooves. Also, the conduits can be placed against the inside surface of the dryer and a material, such as zinc, can be filled in about the conduits. The material serves to both retain the conduits in place and thermally couple the conduits to the dryer to assure efficient heat transfer between the conduits and dryer. These modifications relieve the dryer from the Unfired Pressure Vessel classification to the classification of a piping assembly under ASA code regulations. This results in savings in operation safety, installation cost and operating costs due to the absence of costly inspections.

  • Patent number: 7323665
Abstract: A heating element for a film-sealing apparatus comprises a heating wire segment formed of a first metal having a first reflectance to laser radiation of a predetermined wavelength. The heating element further comprises a first conductor lead comprising a wire having one end joined to a first end of the heating wire segment, and a second conductor lead comprising a wire having one end joined to a second end of the heating wire segment. The first and second conductor leads have a lower electrical resistance than the heating wire segment, and are formed of a second metal having a second reflectance to laser radiation of the predetermined wavelength, the second reflectance being higher than the first reflectance. Each of the first and second conductor leads is lap-welded to the respective end of the heating wire segment using laser radiation of the predetermined wavelength.

  • Patent number: 6437301
Abstract: In an induction heating roller apparatus of the present invention, Rolling bearings 10 and a sliding bearings 14 are provided between drive shafts 2 of a roller body 1 and a support rod 9. When a trouble occurs in the rolling bearings 10, a rotational torque is transmitted from the drive shafts 2 through the rolling bearings 10 to the support rod 9. The sliding bearings 14 operate during the transmission of the rotational torque to the support rod 9, and the rolling bearings 10 slips relative to the support rod 9. The slip prevents that the support rod 9 co-rotates with the drive shafts.

  • Patent number: 5728257
Abstract: A pouch laminator used for coating both sides of a small-sized sheet such as a photograph or identification card with a vinyl film is disclosed. Two folding guide plates are hinged to front and rear sides of the laminator body, respectively. A pair of bearing units are placed inside the laminator body for bearing the heating and molding rollers. A tension member detachably mounted to the top of each bearing unit for elastically holding the heating and molding rollers. A power supply unit having an elastic piece is placed aside each bearing unit. The elastic piece is brought into contact with a terminal provided on an associated end of each heating roller. A flat or embossing roller may be used as the molding roller. The embossing roller has a knurled rolling surface, thus embossing both sides of a coated sheet.

  • Patent number: 5611396
Abstract: A throttle valve is provided in each actuator of a calender roll controller with the throttle valve controlling an internal air orifice within each actuator to provide a substantially uniform air mass flow of either hot or cold air. Each throttle valve is controlled in response to the temperature of the air being delivered by the actuator such that a smaller orifice is provided for hot air than for cold air to provide substantially uniform air mass flow from each of the actuators and therefore substantially uniform air velocity to better control the temperatures of the longitudinal zones of a calender roll and better maintain boundaries between the zones. In addition to throttle valve control of the actuators, an air scoop concentric with a calender roll being controlled and spaced from the calender roll is provided to channel air from the actuators over the calender roll. The scoop comprises heat insulating material to prevent heat loss out the back of the scoop.
