Abstract: Safety systems requiring intentional function activation and material testing systems including safety systems requiring intentional function activation are disclosed. An example material testing system includes: an actuator configured to control an operator-accessible component of the material testing system; an operator interface comprising a plurality of inputs; and one or more processors configured to: control the actuator based on at least one of a material testing process or an input from the operator interface; and require two or more inputs to be received within a predetermined threshold time to permit at least one operation of the actuator.

Abstract: Apparatus and method is disclosed for providing a safety system for power equipment comprising a machine having a lower tool, an upper tool, and a safety controller. The lower tool is electrically isolated from the reversible upper tool. A safety controller is coupled to the lower tool. A pair of electrically conductive gloves that are coupled to the safety controller are worn by an operator of the power equipment. Electrically conductive stock is held with the pair of electrically conductive gloves, the safety controller allowing the machine to operate when the electrically conductive stock contacts the lower tool.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing a catalyst containing vanadium, phosphorus, and oxygen, which is used for oxidizing the gas phase of a hydrocarbon having at least four carbon atoms to maleic anhydride. According to the inventive method, a corresponding catalyst precursor which contains vanadium, phosphorus, and oxygen and is provided with particles having an average diameter of at least 2 mm is converted into a catalytically active form by means of calcination, and a flow of the catalyst precursor is transported on a conveyor belt across at least one calcination area over a distance 1n at an essentially steady speed in order to be calcinated. The variation over time of the gas temperature in relation to the set point value amounts to ?5° C.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a fail-safe automatic sliding operation control apparatus for a press. The entrance and withdrawal behaviors of an operator's hand relative to danger zones (D, D.sub.N) on a bolster of the press are detected by an output generation configuration of two optical curtains. A signal for permitting a lowering operation of the slide is generated when the operator's hand is withdrawn from the danger zones (D, D.sub.N).
