Abstract: In a pneumatic compressor for the compression of waste, for example waste paper comprising a cylinder (1) with a piston (2), which via a piston rod (4) activates a compression plate (3), which is slidably mounted in a compression chamber (5) which has a top door (6) through which waste paper is thrown into the compressor, and a bottom door (7) through which a finished bale can be taken out, which compression takes place in a series of compression cycles, which each time is charged with a new portion of waste, until the waste can offer a counter pressure corresponding to the pressure which the piston (2) can exert at a pressure of 8 bars. In 80-90% of the compression cycles necessary for the compression of a bale, the piston (2) reaches its bottom position in the cylinder, and each time the pressure reaches a pressure of 8 bars in the cylinder (1).

  • Patent number: 7493854
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns a jam detection and safety system for machines prone to jamming, such as a baler. In particular embodiments, the system is implemented in a horizontal baler having a shear bar and a hydraulic ram that advances material being baled past the shear bar into a compression chamber. The system includes a strain gage mounted on the shear bar and a controller that is electrically connected to the strain gage. The controller receives strain signals from the stage gage and compares the strain of the shear bar to a predetermined strain threshold corresponding to a jamming condition. If the strain exceeds the predetermined threshold, the controller automatically deactivates the ram, such as by disconnecting line power from the baler and/or by turning off the control power of the baler.

  • Patent number: 7028610
Abstract: A machining waste metal recycling machine has an in-feed hopper. The hopper uses paired augers to move the waste metal through the hopper to a cutting and transporting auger. The hopper augers are powered independently from each other, and may be individually reversed or reversed as a group to clear jams. In the event a jam is not cleared through one or more reversal cycles, the remaining augers may be operated to clear the hopper, thereby avoiding the need for manual unloading. Within the hopper are one or more shear bars that are provided to sever bunches or bundles of machining waste and thereby clear tangles which might otherwise jam the augers. The cutting and transporting augers ultimately feed a reciprocating compactor having a movable gate with one or more grooves for controlled drainage of machining oil and other liquid, as the machining waste metal is compressed into pellets.

Abstract: A refuse compactor of the type having a receptacle drawer removably contained within a cabinet wherein refuse is compacted by a ram to a fraction of its normal volume. The ram includes a refuse-compressing platen actuated through a toggle linkage to which force is applied by a single screw driven by an electric motor coupled to the screw through a reduction drive. The screw, motor and drive train are carried as a unit by the toggle linkage and move bodily therewith. Improvements are provided in the cabinet, receptacle drawer, compacting mechanism and mounting framework for the same which embody many structural and operational simplification features greatly reducing the size, weight and cost of the compactor.

Abstract: Machine for crushing cylindrical aluminium cans for beer, soft drinks etc. The machine comprises a can intake. A craddle for receiving the can in a substantially horizontal position is displacable between a receiving position in the can intake and a crushing position in a press device for squeezing the cans axially between the end walls thereof. The displacement of the craddle between said position is effected by displacement of a closure member for the can intake between opened and closed positions. A perforated sloping plane is arranged below the press device for receiving the crushed can falling down from the press device at the return movement thereof after crushing, and diverting the crushed can to a collecting container.

Abstract: A vertical support frame has a top reinforced surface forming a first platen surface. A second platen assembly is movable vertically in the support frame and has a surface above the first platen surface forming a second platen surface. Air bags are disposed between the frame and the second platen assembly in an arrangement to lift the second platen assembly to open the press and also to pull the second platen assembly down to close the press. The second platen assembly includes a retractable carriage for moving the second platen surface rearwardly for loading the press. A multiple bag arrangement is also within the concept of the invention and serves to position pressing surfaces directly over the first platen surface. Operating controls are provided to move the carriage platen between forward and retracted positions and also for controlling operation of the fluid operated bags to cause alternate expansion and contraction thereof in the opening and closing of the press.

Abstract: Bag handling apparatus includes a bag flattener for flattening and evenly distributing the material in each bag and a bag palletizer having an infeed conveyor for metering the bags at a controlled rate onto a bag turner apparatus. The bag turner apparatus rotates selected bags from a stream of the bags either 90.degree., 180.degree., or 270.degree. to orient the bags for forming a selected of a multiplicity of layer patterns on a live roller conveyor load table. From the load table a pusher bar transfers the bags onto a set of stripper plates which are separable for depositing the layer pattern of bags onto a pallet situated on a pallet elevator below the stripper plates. After each layer is deposited the layer is squared and then compressed by moving the deposited layers up against the stripper plates for vertical compression. Alternating layer patterns are loaded onto the pallet, with squaring and a vertical compression after each layer, until a full pallet load is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4155297
Abstract: A container in which trash may be stored until such time as the container can be dumped into a truck for transportation to a sanitary disposal site. Trash may be inserted and compacted within the container by a compactor unit formed integrally with or fixedly attached to the container. The compactor unit includes a hopper into which trash may be dumped. A packing panel may be pivotally mounted to move through the hopper to push the trash into the container and compact it therein. The packing panel may move from a position in which the hopper is fully opened to a position in which the panel serves as a door to close the hopper and prevent access to the hopper. The panel can be moved from the "door" position to a third position approximately 180.degree. from the fully opened position. In the third position, the panel has moved all of the trash out of the hopper and into the container.

  • Patent number: 4147100
Abstract: A small portable housing forms a trash compacting chamber in the bottom. At one side of the housing interior, above the chamber, is a space through which trash can fall to the chamber from an upper trash compacting opening. At the other side of the interior of the housing and above the chamber is the compacting mechanism powered by a hydraulic ram. This mechanism includes a carriage supporting a two-part platen, one part of which is below the ram and fixed to the carriage and the other part of which is articulated for movement between a vertical position when raised, and a generally horizontal position across said space when being lowered. Several lost motion mechanisms are disclosed for initially so moving the articulated portion as the ram is extended and thereafter providing carriage movement. A gate is mounted to swing across the space when the platens are lowered so as to catch any trash introduced at that time.

Abstract: A portable waste compactor for automatically compressing, from above, waste material deposited in a dolly-supported waste bin has a hydraulically actuated reciprocable ram mechanism including a ram plate operative to compress the waste material within the waste bin. A chute leading to the waste bin extends forewardly thereof and of the ram mechanism, and has a top opening for the feeding of waste material to be compacted. The ram plate is pivotally mounted with respect to a ram cylinder piston and cam means is provided for tilting the forward end of the ram plate upwardly to provide for unimpeded passage of refuse through the chute into the compacting bin when the said ram is at its uppermost position of rest at the end of a cycle of ram operation. Electrical interlocking means controlling operation of the hydraulic system prevents operation of the ram mechanism unless the dolly and its associated refuse bin is in proper position, and unless a cover covering the waste discharge chute is in closed position.

Abstract: A water cylinder compacting and squeezing apparatus has a control valve requiring a connection of only one tube to the water cylinder for driving and retracting the piston in the cylinder. A water cylinder is mounted to a frame having a removable container and a compacting or squeezing portion connected to a piston rod so that the water cylinder can be connected to the household water supply for squeezing or compacting foods or other materials. A water flow control system includes a first valve for turning on the flow of water which is directed into the water cylinder for driving a piston.
