  • Patent number: 9334866
Abstract: A system and method of counterbalancing an aerodynamic thrust force generated by the impellers of a centrifugal compressor is disclosed. A rotor assembly includes a rotatable shaft disposed within a housing, and having a plurality of impellers axially-spaced from each other and coupled to the rotatable shaft for rotation therewith. Adjacent impellers along the rotatable shaft are each separated from each other with a stationary wall having one or more magnets coupled thereto. • Publication number: 20020185016
Abstract: Catering in a transport vehicle like an aircraft involves collecting mixed waste including solids (e.g. left-over food portions, food wastes, napkins, disposable cutlery) and liquids (e.g. beverage rests), without separation. These wastes are disposed of into an apparatus including a receiving container with a filter and separating element at the bottom, a waste shaft leading into the container, a press arrangement with flap doors, pressure pistons which press the press arrangement and flap doors onto the waste in the container to compact the waste, and a drain and coupling system at the bottom of the container. As the waste is compacted, liquids drain down through the filter, oils and fats are removed by the separating element, and non-oily liquids are removed through the coupling system to the vacuum disposal system or the gray water drain line of the vehicle. A control unit controls the overall operation.

  • Patent number: 6257133
Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining a desired nip pressure distribution profile in the cross direction of a paper web. The paper web passes through a nip, the latter defined by at least one elastomer covered roll, the covered roll having polarizable particles or magnetic particles embedded therein. A plurality of spaced plates or spaced coils each generate a local field (respectively electric or magnetic) which acts upon individual spaced zones or regions along the covered roll. The field may thus be an electric field or a magnetic filed. The affect of the field is to change the effective modulus of the elastomer by acting on the particles. In turn, this action varies the nip pressure pulse as to exert a desired pressure at each of a plurality of spaced zones or regions on the paper web, to thus create or process a more uniform product in the nip. The method and apparatus can be used, for example, to improve web moisture profiles in the press section of paper machines.

  • Patent number: 5386205
Abstract: An improvement to an electro-magnetically actuated piston has a first magnetic core and a second magnetic core. There is an electro-magnet coil for magnetically coupling the first and the second magnetic cores. The coil moves the first and second magnetic cores relatively, one to another. In the improvement itself the first and the second magnetic cores each comprise non-conductive core material or an array of a multiplicity of lamination plates. The non-conductive core material or each of the lamination plates are configured to receive a portion of the electro-magnet coil. The nonconductive core material or array of lamination plates encloses the coil and contains the magnetic field produced by the coil when the coil is energized. When the non-conductive core material or lamination plates of the first and second magnetic cores are in juxtaposition, the result is to generally isolate any magnetic materials adjacent the lamination plates from the magnetic flux produced when the coil is energized.

Abstract: A device for separating and closing a split mold that comprises a base, a stationary platen, and a movable platen extending upward from the base and oriented to oppose each other, electromagnets, a hydraulic cylinder, and a control panel. The movable platen is capable of movement toward and away from the stationary platen by the hydraulic cylinder.
