  • Patent number: 11321915
Abstract: Non-interpolatable classification of rocks in a region as defined by rock classification maps may be digitized to generate gridded index map. For rock classification maps stored as raster images, image treatment may be applied to generate the gridded index map. The gridded index map may be associated with lithology values using a rock-lithology library, and the lithology values may be used to generate a lithologic representation of the region. Such conversion of rock classification maps for modeling the region may improve input lithologic data accuracy and consistency, while enhancing the efficiency of lithologic modeling (e.g., for basin modeling).

  • Patent number: 11267264
Abstract: A method for automated alignment and register measurement in a printing press provides for test patterns having multiple color separations to be printed by the printing press on a printing substrate, recorded by using at least one image sensor of an image acquisition system as a digital overall image, evaluated by a computer with respect to an alignment/register offset and then corrected by the computer for the alignment/register offset. Circular measuring marks having known diameter for each color separation are integrated into the test patterns and the computer ascertains the center position of each circular measuring mark with subpixel accuracy and thus computes the alignment/register offset by cutting out an image region having at least one circular measuring mark from the digital overall image and determining parameters of a model of a printing point of the circular measuring mark from the digital overall image.

  • Patent number: 11108918
Abstract: In one example in accordance with the present disclosure, a method for assessing print quality is described. According to the method, a printed mark is converted into a digital binary mark. A number of values are calculated for the digital binary mark. The number of values include at least a perimeter length value and a value describing a characteristic of an intensity histogram for the digital binary mark. A combined representation of the number of values for the digital binary mark are compared against a combined representation of a number of values for a model printed mark. When the combined representation for the digital binary mark is greater than a predefined distance away from the combined representation for the model printed mark, an operation of a printing device that generated the printed mark is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 10453564
Abstract: A sample, embedded in a paraffin block, is placed on a tissue cassette which carries a label which may be a bar code. When the sample is processed, the cassette is given to a microtome operator who scans the label. Scanning causes information to be displayed on a screen and the operator verifies that what is on the screen matches what was on the label. The paraffin block is then placed in a microtome chuck and sections are cut from the block. A number of slide labels related to the cassette label are printed for the sections. If the operator does not verify that the information displayed on the screen matches the information on the cassette label and/or does not place the paraffin block in the microtome chuck within an allocated time interval after scanning the cassette label, dispensing and labeling of slides and/or operation of the microtome is prevented.

  • Patent number: 9290020
Abstract: A printing system including a plurality of printheads for printing on a web of media traveling along a web transport path, at least one of the printheads being configured to print at first and second print lines. A plurality of web transport rollers guide the web of media along the web transport path. At least some of the plurality of web transport rollers are constrained to have a roller circumference that is substantially equal to an integer fraction of a span of the web of media along the web transport path between two successive print locations in successive print heads. A span extension member provides an increased span of the web of media between the first and second print lines in a particular printhead such that the increased span is an integer multiple of the roller circumferences of the constrained web transport rollers.

  • Patent number: 9141016
Abstract: An image forming apparatus can form a correction image for correcting a positional deviation and includes an image forming unit, an image carrying member, a light detection unit, an ambient condition detection unit, and a control unit. The image carrying member receives the correction image, which is formed by the image forming unit. The light detection unit illuminates the correction image on the image carrying member and detects light reflected thereby. The ambient condition detection unit detects, as an ambient condition, at least one of temperature and humidity in an operating condition of the image forming apparatus. The control unit effects position correction control at a time of image formation of the image forming unit on the basis of a detection result of the light detection unit and an ambient condition detected by the ambient condition detection unit.

  • Patent number: 8451472
Abstract: Print verification is done by scanning the printed copies, thereby forming a stream of scanned images of the specific pages. Digitized images from the stream are then spatially aligned page by page, line by line and pixel (pel) by pixel (pel) with corresponding digitized images in a stream of source images. The source and scanned images are compared to find pel sequences that are different. These differences represent defects in the printed copies.

  • Patent number: 7997194
Abstract: A method for printing and decorating packaging materials, such as paper, paper board and various flexible polymer films by electron beam exposure of plural layers of curable inks and coatings which do not substantially change viscosity during the printing process. The inks and coating are essentially free of volatile components such as organic solvents, inorganic solvents, water and low molecular weight fractions before, during and after exposure to electron beam irradiation. The method involves applying multiple layers of ink and an optional coating onto a substrate. The ink is an admixture of a colorant, and an unsaturated component such that the inks have a maximum of 10% volatile components. Thereafter these layers are simultaneously exposed with electron beam radiation to cause the ethylenically unsaturated components to polymerize or crosslink such that they become dried.
