  • Patent number: 11423267
Abstract: A color management system for a printing system includes a color management service that controls quality control operations, such as calibration and quality checks, over a plurality of printing devices. The color management service generates a target print job having a quality control target made of color patches. The color management service also encodes metadata within the target print job using a control strip. The control strip encodes the metadata using different color patches and color intensities. The control strip is scanned at the printing device to decode the metadata and enable a user interface to complete the quality control operation.

  • Patent number: 11338571
Abstract: A method for cleaning a printing fluid off a surface of at least one rotatable component of a printing press includes selecting and executing one of a plurality of predefined cleaning operations in an automated way. The selection is made on the basis of a predefined mathematical model executed on a computer and, when the model is executed, a parameter corresponding to an amount of the printing fluid present on the surface is calculated. The improved cleaning method may be applied in all modes of operation of the printing press and in particular allows detergent, cleaning cloth, and/or water to be saved.

  • Patent number: 11312125
Abstract: A sheet-fed simultaneous printing machine has two directly interacting collecting cylinders with respective axes of rotation. An axial plane contains these axes of rotation. A reference plane contains such an axis of rotation of this type and has a horizontal surface normal. The intersection angle between the axial plane and the reference plane is max 0.5°. The sheet-fed simultaneous sheet printing unit has exactly four plate cylinders, of which two are arranged such that they directly interact with the first and two are arranged to such that they directly interact with the second collector cylinder. An inking unit with a respective ink supply is arranged in each plate cylinder and a supply sectional plane is determined for each ink supply, which intersects this ink supply and which also contains the axis of rotation of the corresponding plate cylinder. An intersection angle between the reference plane and a supply sectional plane of the respective ink supply is max 35°.

  • Patent number: 10776677
Abstract: In a control device which controls a printing press, a capturing unit captures an inspection target object printed on a target printed material by the printing press, and outputs RGB values of each pixel of a captured image. The converter specifies a pixel with respectively equal RGB values and a pixel with respectively approximating RGB values as pixels in the grayscale area in the image, and converts the RGB values of each pixel other than the grayscale area into HSV values. An extractor extracts a pixel of an extraction target color from the image based on the RGB values in a case of the pixel in the grayscale area, and the HSV values in a case of the pixel other than the grayscale area. The controller controls the printing press to correct the print misalignment based on the pixels of the extraction target color extracted by the extractor.

  • Patent number: 9762750
Abstract: A method automatically parameterizes error detection of an image inspection system by a computer. The method includes digitizing a reference image in order to determine desired values and subdividing the reference image into homogeneous image regions with few edges, and inhomogeneous image regions with strongly structured image areas and many edges. Lower tolerance values for the homogeneous image regions, and higher tolerance values for the inhomogeneous image regions of the digitized reference image are determined by statistical image analyses. The determined tolerances are assigned to their respective desired values in dependence on a position of the desired values in homogeneous or inhomogeneous image regions. An inspection sensitivity is calculated from desired values and their respective tolerances. The parameters of the image inspection system are set with the aid of the inspection sensitivity configuration of the image inspection system using the parameters.

  • Patent number: 9615111
Abstract: An improved technique of compressing image data involves separating a prediction error of image data into distinct factors and applying a separate set of context models to each factor. Such factors may take the form of a sign, a bit category, and a relative absolute value of the prediction error. For each factor, the improved technique provides a set of context models and a procedure for selecting a context model from each respective set. The context model for each factor determines a probability distribution of symbols that may represent that factor, which in turn enables compression of the prediction error. Additionally, the symbols that represent certain factors into which the prediction error is separated result from a binary representation whose form—either unary or uniform—depends on the size of the prediction error.

  • Patent number: 7735418
Abstract: A printing unit, which is a part of a multi-color printing press, has a plurality of double printing units which are arranged vertically one above the other and consist of two printing groups forming a double print position. The printing group cylinders are mounted together in a central stand section. Inking units, which are associated with the printing groups, are mounted in outer stand sections. A distance between adjacent ones of these stand sections is adjustable. Printing and transfer cylinders of each printing group are coupled by a toothed gear wheel connection and are driven in pairs by a separate drive motor. The toothed gear wheels of all of the printing group cylinders are arranged in a common lubricant chamber which is formed by the central stand section and a cover. The inking systems have at least one separate drive motor, which is independent of the printing group cylinders.

  • Patent number: 7617774
Abstract: A method of printing an electronic circuit or components thereof uses a printing machine to print a conductive structure on the front printing side (back side of the sheet) of a printing substrate. The sheet is then reversed and a decorative printing motif is printed on the back side in one work step. Alternatively, the circuit or components of a circuit may be printed by having a printing machine for color printing preceded by a printing machine for printing on the back side of the printing substrate. A chip is applied to the printing substrate where the back side of the printing sheet with the printing motif is cooled to prevent any negative effect on the printing motif and/or the printing substrate.

The rollers of the dampening unit are arranged with at least the first and last rollers in the roller train arranged inside an acute angle depending from the transfer cylinder. A horizontal line extending from the transfer cylinder defines an opening angle of less than 45° with the rollers of the dampening unit.
