Transfer Patents (Class 101/217)
  • Patent number: 4270483
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for attachment to the down-stream end of a conventional offset lithographic printing press for in-line coating of the printed work issuing from the press, with water-based polymer coatings, to protect the printing ink as the printed matter sets and hardens. The apparatus includes a pick-up roller which picks up liquid coating composition from a reservoir structure, a cylindrical applicator roller to which the coating composition is transferred, the apparatus being mounted on the frame of the press so that the applicator roller of the apparatus can bear against the blanket roll of the printing press and transfer the coating composition to the blanket roll as the press operates. The apparatus is releasably mounted to the press, and can be pivoted about a lower axis to bring the applicator roll into and out of contact with the blanket roll of the press.

  • Patent number: 4246840
Abstract: A printing machine suitable for printing on a three-dimensional article of small size includes an inking arrangement having a roller such as a blanket roller for printing a pattern directly on the article, a pair of rails parallel to each other for supporting thereon the article, a pair of guides extending above the rails for guiding the article therealong, a pushing member which is driven forward between the rails at the same speed as the peripheral surface speed of the blanket roller in synchronization with rotation of the blanket roller thereby forcing the article to slide forward on the rails to a printing position, and a controlling means for forcing an ink ductor into contact with a duct roller intermittently at fixed intervals. The printing machine further includes a mechanism for adjusting the position of the rails and the guides so that they correspond to the shape and the size of the article.

  • Patent number: 4241658
Abstract: A system for duplicating images on copy sheets utilizing an impression cylinder. The system provides for transfer of an image to one side of each sheet, and the sheet may then be reversed to locate the sheet on the impression cylinder, trailing edge first. The reversing is in synchronism with a second image whereby this second image may be transferred to the opposite side of each sheet. The impression cylinder is provided with a first gripper for engaging the leading edge of each sheet when the sheet is first fed to the impression cylinder. A second gripper is provided on the impression cylinder for engaging the trailing edge of each sheet, and this second gripper turns around to achieve the reversing action after application of the first image. The first gripper is externally mounted and is movable relative to the impression cylinder whereby the relative positions of the grippers can be changed so that different size sheets can be duplexed.

  • Patent number: 4219595
Abstract: An adhesive printing blanket including rubber or rubber-like material. The printing blanket may also be provided with reinforcing inserts. A foil-like protective layer covers the adhesive layer of the printing blanket. The protective layer, which is elastically flexible, is removed by pulling off prior to the adhesive mounting of the printing blanket. The protective layer is under a tensile stress to preclude creasing during rolling up of the printing blanket into a roll and during subsequent spreading out of the printing blanket into a plane.

  • Patent number: 4210079
Abstract: A sheet advancing cylinder in an offset printing machine, has a sheet gripping system arranged in its interior. The system includes a rocking member rigidly connected to a first gripper for moving the latter between two terminal positions in a slot formed in the jacket of the cylinder. The movement of the rocking member is such that in the first terminal position the first gripper is flush with the jacket periphery, in an intermediate position it is above the periphery and in the second terminal position it is below the periphery.

  • Patent number: 4200045
Abstract: A loading arrangement for obtaining an equally distributed pressure load in a cylinder stack included in a printing unit of an offset printing press, comprising a plurality of cylinders each having a cylindrical body portion and stub shafts at both ends, journalled in bearings. The arrangement includes axially short load rollers for producing a pressure load to the outermost cylinders of the stack. The rollers are located to act on portions between the bearings of the cylinders, and hence, the pressure load is transmitted directly to the body portions of the outermost cylinders. This minimizes the deflection of the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4198908
Abstract: An ink supplying device which supplies ink to a plate cylinder and thus to a blanket cylinder of a rotary printing press includes a plurality of rollers which are in contact with one another and with the plate cylinder, respectively. The device further includes an ink supply fountain, an ink supply roll and a ductor roll which is displaceable between two positions in one of which it contacts the ink supply roll and is replenished with ink and in the other of which it contacts one of the rollers and delivers the ink thereto. A drive for the ink supply device includes a main drive shaft and a transmission which directly drives the above-mentioned one roller while circumventing the other rollers so that a jolt which occurs upon the contact of the ductor roll with the one roller is not transmitted to the other rollers.

  • Patent number: 4116126
Abstract: Apparatus for printing on compressible material providing cushioning means to prevent the compression or distortion of the compressible material while imparting thereto a clear printing impression. The apparatus comprises an image transfer station including a plate cylinder which is rotatably mounted and adapted to releasably mount thereon a printing plate. This image transfer station includes pressure means in the form of a cylinder which is coactive with the plate cylinder. A printing blanket is provided which travels between the plate cylinder and the pressure cylinder for receiving the image from the printing plate. The plate cylinder and the pressure cylinder have hard non-compressible surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4000693
Abstract: A safe access arrangement for a printing press having remotely located driven mechanisms normally enclosed by guards or covers and which are removable to provide access for observation, adjustment or servicing. Remote control modules are located under the respective access covers each module having a motor remote control switch and a shiftable interlock switch, the shiftable switch being automatically thrown from a normal position to a shifted position when the access cover is removed. Each shiftable switch includes a first contact for disabling the main switch of the press and a second contact for activating, or "enabling", operation of the associated motor remote control switch so that the motor may only be turned on by the remote control switch at the location of the open cover.

  • Patent number: 3956985
Abstract: A mechanism which has a first cam plate pivotally mounted on an operating shaft having an operating lever joined thereto and a second cam plate pivotally mounted on an eccentric shaft of a master cylinder and moved with an arm fixed to the operating shaft. The first cam plate is formed with a pump switch cam, a set cam for operating the operating lever stepwise and a paper feed control cam. The second cam plate is formed with a form roller-separating cam and a master cylinder-separating cam. The form roller-separating cam causes press contact between a form roller and the master cylinder when the operating lever is set at the I position. When the operating lever is set at II, the master cylinder-separating cam forces the master cylinder to maintain its contact with a blanket cylinder, and when the operating lever is set at IV, the paper feed control cam allows a suction foot to move down to start paper feed through an auxiliary operating lever.
