  • Patent number: 7011022
Abstract: An offset printing press having plate and blanket cylinder retention mechanisms, each retention mechanism having at least one trunnion axially displaceable between an operative position and a disengaged position. Said trunnion is freely disconnected from an associated cylinder end in the disengaged position such that the plate cylinder and the blanket cylinder are removable from the printing press from between the frame structure. One of the cylinder retention mechanisms is selectively displaceable relative to the frame structure such that a distance between the cylinder axes of rotation is variable. The plate and blanket cylinders are thus removable from the printing press and substitutable with replacement cylinders having a different outer circumference. The press comprises a gear drive system which remains in gear meshed engagement with both the plate cylinder and the blanket cylinder regardless of the variable relative positions thereof.

  • Patent number: 6981444
Abstract: A gapped or seamed cylindrical offset printing blanket having pre-made blanket material mounted on a cylindrical sleeve, and a method for making same, are disclosed, wherein conventional, manufactured blanket material in flat form made by methods known in the art is adhered to a cylindrical sleeve to economically produce a blanket. The leading and trailing ends of the flat blanket material are joined in close proximity such that a small gap is formed. A seam may be made with a filler material that fills the remaining gap resulting in a seamed sleeved blanket. In use, the seam is aligned with non-print area on the adjacent printing plate, or the adjacent plate cylinder gap of the printing press. Abstract: Printing device for printing machines of various kind, which is made in such a way that to permit to print paper pages and sheets of any size, with a number of copies larger than those attainable with the current printing machines and with high printing accuracies. Printing device comprising a plurality of cylinders having at least a double height, including cauotchouc-covered printing cylinders (10, 11), which are magnetically attracted with each other during the printing process, thereby preventing any undesired mechanical vibration of the same cylinders, which could be prejudicial for the printing quality, and cylinder-plates (16, 17) which are attracted by the opposite printing cylinders during the printing process, and which are covered with a number of printing plates identical to the number of copies of paper pages and sheets to be printed. The invention also discloses other particular component parts of this printing device.

  • Patent number: 6745692
Abstract: A sleeve (10) for flexographic printing includes a sleeve body (2) made of an at least partially non-electroconductive material, which within its inside (4) is mountable on an electroconductive king roll on the outer wall of the roll, of a printing press, the king roll being designed as an air cylinder, and exhibiting at least one contact zone with the king roll. The sleeve exhibits an electroconductive surface (6), which is connected to the contact zone via at least one electroconductive element (20) provided in the sleeve body (2) for diverting electrostatic charges into the outer wall of the roll of the king roll. The sleeve is therefore given an electroconductive structure, through which the unavoidable electrostatic charges in printing presses with a plurality of printing couples are diverted via the king roll before it reaches a scale that would suffice for a discharge, ignition, or deflagration of the solvents used in the printing.

  • Patent number: 6739251
Abstract: An improved printing press includes a tubular-shaped printing blanket removably disposed on a blanket cylinder rotatably supported by a frame and having an outer circumferential surface. The printing blanket is disposed in rolling engagement with a conventional printing plate disposed on a plate cylinder having an axially extending gap in which opposite ends of the printing plate are secured. The printing blanket is removed by opening a portion of the frame and axially sliding the printing blanket off of the blanket cylinder. The blanket cylinder has passages which deliver a stream of air to the outer surface of the blanket cylinder which expands the inner circumferential surface of the printing blanket so that the blanket can be axially removed or inserted onto the blanket cylinder. The printing blanket has a metal inner surface which is tensioned by the blanket cylinder to retain the printing blanket on the blanket cylinder during operation of the press.

Abstract: A monitoring device is provided for a printer, especially a sheet-fed offset printer. The printer has a controller that records the signals of signal transmitters in the individual units of the printer, through which command signals for actuators/drives connected to the control can be generated as a function of the signal state, and a monitoring computer that additionally records the signal states of the signal transmitters and causes the switching off of actuators/drives. In the monitoring device, the signal states of the signal transmitters (G) of the printer units are fed to several slave computers (S), which are connected to each other via a monitoring bus (UB) and to a monitoring master (UM) connected upstream from the monitoring computer (UR). The actuators/drives (A) are connected to respective ones of the slaves (S) and can be switched off by the slaves in response to a command sent by the monitoring master (UM) via the monitoring bus (UB).
