  • Patent number: 4094243
Abstract: A printing press having a plate cylinder and a cooperating cylinder, a layer of packing being interposed under the plate. A film of ink is applied to the plate by a plurality of form rollers. An eccentric bushing is interposed between the plate cylinder and the frame of the press rockable from a reference position to an adjusted position for increasing the spacing between the axes of the plate cylinder and its cooperating cylinder as necessary to accommodate an increase in the thickness of the packing. A cam sector is mounted at the end of the plate cylinder having spirally curved segments for radially supporting the rollers with respect to the plate and mounted for rocking movement for camming the rollers relatively away from the axis of the plate cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4041862
Abstract: In an offset printing apparatus the tripping into pressure contact as well as the tripping out of pressure contact of the printing cylinders and the operation of the paper feed apparatus are controlled by a multi-arm lever that is operated by a double disk cam. The multi-arm lever operates the various printing cylinders and the paper feed mechanism through a number of control rods.

  • Patent number: 4003308
Abstract: The printing press includes a printing cylinder and an inking roll operatively positioned on a frame means and characterized by positioning arms engaging the inking roll for pivotal movement of such roll towards and away from the printing cylinder to operative and inoperative positions, respectively. Fluid actuating means operatively engages the positioning arms for moving the inking roll and an adjustment device is present to control the extent of movement of said inking roll. Further adjustment means are provided in the positioning arm engaging one end of the inking roll to aid in operatively positioning the inking roll parallel to the printing cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4000692
Abstract: A system for facilitating throw-off and re-engagement of a blanket cylinder with respect to cooperating plate and impression cylinders and which minimizes wastage of copies incident to reestablishing equilibrium in the inking and dampening systems following an interruption of the normal printing process. Two separate control means are provided for controlling the rate of water flow, the first being an automatic control at the water fountain and the second being in the form of means for controllably disengaging the water form roller from the printing plate. Means are provided for switching from the first control means to the second when the blanket is disengaged for promptly cutting off the flow and thereafter maintaining a water film of predetermined thickness on the plate.

  • Patent number: 3987726
Abstract: An offset rotary press comprises one single control device for changing the size on the one hand and for fixing and detaching the cylinders on the other. The press comprises, on each side of the frame, a longitudinal and a horizontal threaded bar screwed by its end into one of the movable side plates, a worm wheel for simultaneously rotating the two threaded bars and causing the two side plates to slide, and compression springs compressed between devices integral with the external ends of the respective horizontal bars and with supporting points affixed to the frame, in such a way as to exert, in the outward direction, a tractive force on each threaded bar and the corresponding side plate and to create the pressure between the blanket cylinder and the engraved cylinder.

  • Patent number: 3965818
Abstract: A pressure control device for offset printing machines, having a cam shaft mounted between a pair of side plates, a dial provided at one end of the shaft, cam plates rotating with the dial in a single body having spiral cam slot surfaces. The cam slots are engaged with pins mounted on two arms supporting a pressure cylinder, and have one end formed to latch the pin in an escape position. With the above device, even during the operation of a printing machine, the pressure of the pressure cylinder to printing paper can be adjusted simply by the dial control, and an automatic adjustment can further be possible when the dial is set at AUTO position and the pins are in the escape positions.

  • Patent number: 3955496
Abstract: A linear conveyor has a plurality of mandrels on which cans are held for movement between a feed station and a discharge station. A plurality of printers are longitudinally spaced between the feed and discharge stations. Printing cylinders are rotated in synchronism with the can mandrels so that exact registration of different printing patterns is obtained. A compensated conveyor produces no slack in the conveyor chain so that the conveyor moves at a constant velocity without the jerky motion which would otherwise cause misregistration of the printing patterns.
