Patent number: 5836706Abstract: During first side printing, a media sheet is fed along a feed roller over a refeed guide toward a metering roller and into a print zone. As the trailing edge approaches a metering pinch line, the metering roller stops. After a drying time, the rollers reverse direction. The refeed guide directs the media sheet around the metering roller onto an inner guide having a reversible roller. When the trailing edge of the media sheet clears the refeed guide, the reversible roller is moved into contact with the metering roller causing such roller to reverse direction. The media sheet now moves back along the inner guide onto the feed roller. When the media sheet trailing edge is detected at the feed roller, the feed roller and metering roller change direction back to the original direction. The media sheet now is fed through the print zone for second side printing.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1997Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventor: Thomas W. Ruhe

Patent number: 5031531Abstract: A device for adjusting a rotational position between coaxial fixed and adjusting gears and for changing-over a gripper by axially displacing an adjusting member on a cylinder of a turning device of a sheet-fed rotary printing press, includes a pressure member for effecting a spring coupling of the gears via a radially extending pressure lever. An adjusting member which reduces the spring force is axially displaceably guidable on the cylinder and becomes effective upon the pressure member only after traversing a distance for actuating a switch of an electrical safety device in a power supply circuit of a driving device. Another electrical safety device is between control positions of the adjusting member for interrupting the supply circuit to change over the gripper control.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1989Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventor: Willi Becker

Patent number: 4831929Abstract: In a suction member fixing apparatus for a sheet-fed printing press, two side plates are pivotally fitted on two end shafts of a double-diameter cylinder so that the surfaces of the side plates are in contact with end faces of the cylinder body. A fixing shaft having a head portion at one end and a threaded portion at the other end extends through central axial holes of the cylinder body and the two end shafts. Press rods radially extend through base portions of the two end shafts, are in contact with end faces of the side plates opposite to the cylinder body, and are moved upon threadable engagement of a screw member with the threaded portion to fix the side plates and the cylinder body by a surface pressure. Belleville springs are interposed between one press rod and the screw member to absorb extension of the fixing shaft due to an increase in temperature during printing.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Komori Printing Machinery Co., Ltd.Inventor: Nobuaki Saito

Patent number: 4823695Abstract: In a sheet turn-over apparatus for a sheet-fed rotary printing press, the right cams are a turn-over cam for gripper units A and opening/closing cams for gripper units B, while the left cams are a turn-over cam for gripper units B and opening/closing cams for gripper units A. The cams cooperate with the corresponding torsion bars arranged at the pivotal centers of cam levers to turn over and open/close the gripper units A and B. The cams are fixed at predetermined positions of frames and need not be shifted in the single side printing and double side printing. The gripper opening/closing cams need not be shifted in the non-turn-over and turn-over modes.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1987Date of Patent: April 25, 1989Assignee: Komori Printing Machinery Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kenji Kida
