Patent number: 6606942Abstract: The invention relates to a die stamping method and to a device for performing the method. The problem of the invention is to reduce the production of waste during die stamping. This is brought about in that on supplying the foil web to the stamping station a sensor means monitors whether there is a defect therein. If a defect is detected, the foil web supply to the stamping station is controlled in such a way that the defect is conveyed through the stamping station between two stamping operations. Thus, the defect does not arrive in the stamping or printing area of the stamping station, so that no waste is produced.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2001Date of Patent: August 19, 2003Inventor: Armin Steuer

Patent number: 6575089Abstract: A method and apparatus for embossing plastic web materials, for instance, low density polyethylene film, have a movable, first embossing element having a plurality of male dies associated with a heat transferable member and a stationary, second embossing element having a plurality of female dies. The temperature of the heat transferable member is controllable so that the male dies can deform a range of deformable plastic materials. The stationary, second embossing element is alignable relative to the first embossing element and unheated so that the female dies are maintained at about ambient temperature during embossing.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2000Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Fugui He, Harold Moore, Douglas G. Patent number: 6474230Abstract: An imaging system is disclosed. A housing has an interior chamber and a door. A press has a base fabricated of a rigid material and with an upper surface. The press has a raisable platen with a lower surface fabricated of a resilient material. A support plate is positionable on the upper surface of the base for the receipt of an object. A transfer sheet has printing material positioned upon the object. Drive mechanisms urge the platen downwardly into contact with the transfer sheet with the object, plate and base there beneath. Heating components located within the platen generate heat. Cooling components located within the base lower the temperature of the object after the transfer of images.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Inventor: Stephen Corrado

Patent number: 6467404Abstract: The invention is of an improved hot stamp machine for custom imprinting plastic tag blanks with selectable indicia. The machine, because of its mechanical configuration, facilitates stamping operations which are virtually devoid of any risk of injury to the user. The hot stamp machine of the present invention is configured such that a plastic tag blank is inserted through a small aperture (not substantially larger than is necessary to admit the plastic tag blank there through), and with the tag blank fully in position for stamping, the stamping operation automatically occurs within the machine, with the dangerous stamping mechanism being safely out of reach of the user.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2000Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: Temple Tag, Inc.Inventors: Todd Griffin, Charles Backula, Dennis Apana

Patent number: 6298777Abstract: The dry printing apparatus comprises a housing defining a handle portion, a dry printing unit mounted to an open lower end of the housing, an air convection passage, and a guide member. The air convection passage extends through a space between the dry printing unit and side walls of the housing as well as through openings in a top wall of this housing. Convection air flows through the air convection passage to prevent the handle portion from being heated by the dry printing unit. The guide member is telescopically mounted in the open lower end of the housing between extended and retracted positions and is spring-biased toward the extended position. In operation, the guide member is applied to the surface to be dry printed and pressure is manually applied to the handle portion to telescopically move the housing and dry printing unit about the guide member until the dry printing unit reaches the surface to be dry printed.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Inventors: Constant Dubois, André Lafleur, Pierre Patenaude, Eric Bussiere

Patent number: 6209452Abstract: The present invention is a ball marking template comprising first and second portions attached to each other at first ends respectively by a hinge mechanism, the first and second portions each further having two inwardly curving arms separated by a gap on second ends thereof, whereby when a golf ball is placed within the template, it may be marked by tracing along a peripheral edge of the gap. In an alternate embodiment, the ball marking template comprises first and second portions attached to each other by a curved portion, each of the first and second portions having a shaped aperture located at a distal end, respectively, whereby when a golf ball is placed within the template, it may be marked by tracing along a peripheral edge of the apertures.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Inventor: Edward A. Patent number: 6202549Abstract: Described are a process and an apparatus for transferring prints (18, 20) from a support (16) on to a substrate (10), wherein the support (16) is transported together with the substrate (10) through a station in which the substrate (10) having print portions (12) in succession in the direction of transportation movement is provided with the prints (18, 20) in accurate register relationship. This procedure uses on the one hand a substrate (10) having at least two rows of print portions (112) side-by-side transversely to the direction of transportation movement and on the other hand a support (16) which in the direction of transportation movement has between the prints (18) for print portions (12) disposed in a row one after the other in the direction of transportation movement at least one respective additional print (20).Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1995Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignees: Leonhard Kurz GmbH & Co., Koenig & Bauer-Albert AGInventors: Reinwald Mitsam, Albrecht Germann

Patent number: 6149326Abstract: A tape cartridge for a debossing stamper includes a casing, a tape-containing supply spool and a tape take-up spool in the casing, the supply spool having at least one reflector pad visually accessible from the exterior of the casing by an optical reflective sensor for detecting and indicating an amount of tape remaining on the supply spool. In one embodiment the at least one reflector pad is a series of equally spaced reflector pads on an outer periphery of the supply spool. The sensor provides a feedback on each 1/4 revolution of said supply reel, the feedback being received by firmware to track the number of motor steps to drive the take-up spool and to rotate the supply spool a 1/4 turn, and wherein a computer calculates the amount of tape remaining on the supply spool based on supply spool core diameter, take-up spool core diameter and total tape length.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1998Date of Patent: November 21, 2000Assignee: Taurus Impressions, Inc.Inventors: Charles T.
