  • Patent number: 5533447
Abstract: A method and apparatus for printing a multi-color ink pattern on a substrate surface which comprises arranging a series of patterned surfaces with each patterned surface having a pattern that is unique to one of the colors and that corresponds to the pattern of that color in the multi-color pattern, supplying to each patterned surface a radiation-curable ink formulation, having an appropriate colorant to form an ink pattern thereon, transferring individually the color pattern from each patterned surface to a collector roll, increasing the cohesiveness of the ink sufficiently to permit complete transfer of the pattern, forming a composite of the color patterns on a collector roll, and transferring the composite pattern in its entirety to the substrate surface.

  • Patent number: 5443002
Abstract: A method of applying graphic images to a fibreglass surface. The graphic image is applied on an absorbent cellulose-based paper sheet. A coating of clear fibreglass resin is applied to the fibreglass surface and printed paper is then applied to the surface, before the resin has cured. A further coating of fibreglass resin is then applied on top of the paper, thus encasing it in resin.

  • Patent number: 5337670
Abstract: A process for the transfer printing of a golf club head including steps of forming a golf club head, polishing the golf club head with sand blast which consists of particles of sand, powdered quartz, chilled iron globules, emery, or other hard granular material blown by a jet of compressed air, spraying paint on the golf club head thereby forming a layer of paint on the surface thereof, placing the golf club head into a furnace for baking for fixing the paint thereon, cooling the golf club head thus forming a semi-product, covering the golf club head with a piece of mold paper, and disposing the golf club head in a steam furnace at 260 degrees centigrade for 10 minutes hence causing the ink pattern on the mold paper to be printed on the paint of the golf club head consequently producing a golf club head with desired patterns thereon.

  • Patent number: 5324378
Abstract: A two-step press type transfer operation is made practical by a particular rendering of pictorializations for use upon the transfer sheets. A pictorialization should have a major portion of some object in the center of the pictorialization or a portion of a pictorialization in which a segmentation or division of such pictorialization is to be made so that one portion of the pictorialization may be placed upon one transfer sheet and a second portion of the pictorialization placed upon a second transfer sheet. Substantial straight linear portions of such pictorialization of this area are avoided and the division between the two portion of the image are run along nonlinear borders upon the edge of clearly defined structures within the pictorialization.

  • Patent number: 5104427
Abstract: A filter and method for applying differential levels of active ingredient materials to specific areas of filters, such as the filter paper used to make disposable vacuum cleaner bags, so as to cause the effluent such as air which has passed through such filters to sustainably act as a dispersing agent for such filter-impregnated active ingredients as may condition the effluent which has passed through the filter in ways that are desirable to the user of the filter. The active ingredients are unevenly distributed on the filter substrate in a pattern determined by predicted changing flow rate patterns through the area of the substrate during intervals of increasing accumulation of particulate matter against the filter and effective to maximally sustain dispersion of active ingredient during such intervals.

  • Patent number: 4684547
Abstract: A method and apparatus for format patterning magnetic recording media with servo-control patterns is disclosed herein. The method comprises the steps of printing the control pattern using a resist in liquid form onto the media material by conventional printing techniques. A layer of a thin metallic film is then deposited over the resist and uncovered substrate areas. The resist and its overlayered metal is then removed using a liftoff technique by dissolving the resist in its particular solvent. A control pattern of deposited metallic film remains in those non-resist areas. In the alternative, the process can also use an etching bath to create the servo control pattern.

  • Patent number: 4549928
Abstract: A collector printing process is utilized for applying thermoplastic pressure-sensitive inks, corresponding to the color TV phosphors and the black matrix, onto the inner face of the TV panel. Separate inks, formed of inorganic pigments and a thermoplastic pressure-sensitive medium, are each separately patterned. The separate inks are then printed in registration onto a collector to form a composite pattern. Upon completion, the composite pattern is completely transferred to the TV panel by contact of the collector against the inner panel face to form the target.

  • Patent number: 4369082
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method and machine for applying a decal to a generally cylindrical article, particularly an article having a handle on one side thereof. A series of decals are attached to an elongated web and are spaced a generally constant distance apart in the direction of the length of the web. The machine includes supply and takeup spindles for rotatably supporting reels for the web, and a web drive for moving the web from the supply reel to the take-up reel. A mandrel rotatably supports the article and a movable head presses the web and the decal against an article on the mandrel. The web passes from the supply reel, between the mandrel and the head, and to the take-up reel. The machine further includes a brake which, when engaged, holds the web against movement, and a decal sensor assembly. After the machine is actuated to cause the movable head to press the decal against an article, the brake is actuated to release the web, and the web is then pulled across the article.

  • Patent number: 4059471
Abstract: Method of dye absorption into the surface of plastics is accomplished by placing polyolefin film between a dye transfer paper and a sheet of thermoplastic and applying pressure and heat thereto. The heat applied is sufficient to sublime the dyes though the film to the plastic sheet. The dyes are absorbed into the surface of the plastic with the design intact. The materials are then cooled and separated and a decorated plastic sheet or article with wear-proof design is obtained. Thermoset plastics are similarly dye penetrated in this manner during the curing thereof. In mold dye decoration and penetration of thermoplastics and thermoset plastics is also disclosed.Further, post-pressure dye transfer to plastic sheet and plastic articles is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3945141
Abstract: A specifically sized transferable indicia sheet has reference marks, which are also transferable guide marks, underlaid on a substantially transparent carrier sheet and arranged in a plurality of horizontal rows. Such guide marks are transferable to a correspondingly sized receiving surface by aligning left, right and top edges of the carrier sheet with corresponding edges of the receiving surface and rubbing the exposed surface of the carrier sheet over the guide marks. The area of the carrier sheet from which the guide marks have been removed is clear in contrast to the surrounding carrier sheet portions which have a frosted appearance. The clear areas of the indicia sheet formed by transfer of the guide marks to the receiving surface constitute reference marks.
