Plate Securing Means Patents (Class 101/378)
  • Patent number: 6026747
Abstract: Multiple winding mechanisms are disposed within a single cylinder, such as the plate cylinder of a printing press, and are actuable so as to pay out material across different cylinder segments. For example, the winding mechanisms may be differentially geared to cylinder rotation, such that rotation of the cylinder in a first direction advances material from a first winding mechanism across a first circumferential portion of the cylinder to a second winding mechanism; while rotation of the cylinder in the opposite direction advances material from the second winding mechanism across a second circumferential portion of the cylinder (which may, for example, be diametrically opposed to the first cylinder portion) to the first winding mechanism. Alternatively, material advancement may be achieved by means of a dedicated motor rather than mechanical coupling to cylinder rotation.

  • Patent number: 5325778
Abstract: A clamping and tensioning rail for the trailing edge of a printing plate is mounted in the cylinder channel of a plate cylinder such that the trailing edge of the printing plate can be introduced in a simple way, without folding, into the gap between an upper and a lower clamping part. The clamping and tensioning rail is mounted pivotably about two pivot axes which are formed, for example, from stops fixed relatively to the cylinder and which interact respectively with an edge and an arcuate recess on the clamping and tensioning rail. Preferably, the clamping and tensioning rail is drawn into a completely open position by the force of a prestressed compression spring and can be pivoted against this force by an actuating shaft via lever arms and straps.

  • Patent number: 5313883
Abstract: A self-locking mechanism (10) for selectively dynamically adjusting expansion bands (12) of a running cylinder (11) of a rotary printing press during rotation includes a cylindrical adjustment member (30, 72) with a diameter substantially the same as the diameter of the running cylinder which engages a band box (22, 80) rotating with the running cylinder (11) to make the selected adjustments in response to rotation of cylindrical adjusting member (30, 72) at a speed different from the speed of the running cylinder (11). The speed difference is produced by a differential (52, 75) stationary with respect to the running cylinder (11) which engages the cylindrical member (30, 72) and the running cylinder (11). The cylindrical adjusting member (30, 72) is mounted to the running cylinder (11) on an interrupted journal (35). The cylindrical adjusting member (30) has an inner engagement surface (38) for engagement with the band box (22) and another engagement surface (39) for engagement with the differential.

  • Patent number: 5289773
Abstract: An object of this invention is to provide an apparatus capable of easily and accurately mounting a plate to a predetermined position of the circumferential surface of a plate cylinder. A safety cover for covering the circumferential surface of a plate cylinder is suspended and is vertically opened/closed by a hydraulic cylinder. A plate reception member and a plate holder are mounted on the safety cover to hold a plate to be mounted on the plate cylinder. In mounting of the plate, the safety cover is opened, and the lower end of the plate is removed from the plate holder and is inserted into a plate lockup device mounted in the plate cylinder. At this time, notches formed at the lower end of the plate are respectively engaged with reference pins formed on the plate lockup device. When the upper end of the plate is inserted into the plate press member, the notches of the plate are fitted on the reference pins by the weight of the plate and the behavior of the plate press member.
