  • Patent number: 7882783
Abstract: A method for digital imaging of a printing form (10) through application of energy is described, in which a burn-off area (66) is detachably fixed by supporting points (68, 84), supporting points (68, 84) being left in place on the printing form (10) through non-imaging of image spots (112) and in which the burn-off from the burn-off area (66) is detached from the printing form (10) in a cleaning step. A supporting point (68, 84) at a reference point is left in place precisely if the number of image spots (110) to be imaged in a surrounding area (18) of the reference point (12) exceeds a limit value and a boundary area (20) in the surrounding area (18) around the reference point (12) contains only image spots (110) to be imaged.

  • Patent number: 7841278
Abstract: A method for treating a re-imageable printing form includes surface modifying a surface of the printing form acting as a printing area in a nanoscopic range by chemically functionalizing the surface through covering with molecules, in particular amphiphilic molecules or polymers. The printing form is subjected to a primary process of imaging by laser radiation, and subjected to a primary process of application of at least one lithographic fluid, for example dampening solution, printing ink and/or varnish. The molecules are fixed in image regions by the primary process of imaging. The molecules are removed in non-image regions substantially by at least one primary process different than the application of printing ink, in particular by imaging, application of dampening solution or chemical developing. An apparatus for treating a re-imageable printing form, a machine for processing printing material and a method for treating a surface contacting printing material, are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7781143
Abstract: Negative-working imageable elements that can be imaged using infrared radiation comprise an imageable layer and a protective overcoat on a hydrophilic substrate. The imageable layer includes an IR-sensitive cyanine dye. The protective overcoat predominantly comprises one or more poly(vinyl alcohol) resins, each of which has a hydrolysis level of 85% or less. The use of this particular overcoat composition used in combination with the IR-sensitive cyanine dye provides improved tolerance to fogging by white light while maintaining desired imaging speed.

  • Patent number: 7752966
Abstract: A method of developing a laser sensitive lithographic printing plate with ink and/or fountain solution is described. The printing member comprises on a substrate a photosensitive layer soluble or dispersible in ink and/or fountain solution and capable of hardening upon exposure to a laser. The plate is exposed with a laser, deactivated, and then on-press developed with ink and/or fountain solution. Alternatively, the plate is developed with ink and/or fountain solution or the like off press, and then mounted on press for lithographic printing. The deactivation or off-press development allows the plate to be handled on press under white light or other light which is unsafe for a non-deactivated plate.
