Patent number: 6640714Abstract: A base or pallet that is variably adjustable along its width to specifically accommodate a wide range of differently sized pieces of clothing is provided. A main pallet base is flanked by a pair of extendable and retractable (movable) wings, along the underside thereof, that are constructed from a durable material and that extend simultaneously in opposing directions. In an illustrative embodiment, a movement-balancing mechanism, such as a rack-and-pinion assembly or pantograph, is used to extend and retract the wings at a similar rate. In this manner, pulling or pushing on one wing causes the other to move simultaneously. The wings are locked in place using a locking mechanism beneath the outer-facing side of the main base. The locking mechanism can be a block that applies friction to one of the rack sets of the rack-and-pinion assembly or other movement-balancing mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2002Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: The Gem Group, Inc.Inventor: Frank J. Patent number: 6619196Abstract: An apparatus for printing on golf tees or other conical objects. The apparatus includes a singler from which the objects are discharged one-by-one. From the singler, the objects are deposited onto a rack. In some versions of the invention, the singler vibrates. The rack is mechanically separate from the singler so that the vibrations of the singler are not transmitted to the rack. A conveyor adjacent the rack individually picks up each object. More particularly, the object is held between a pair of opposed entraining pins on the conveyor. As the object moves horizontally along the conveyor, it is passed underneath a printer that prints on the object.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2002Date of Patent: September 16, 2003Assignee: Kunz GmbHInventor: Frank Dorner

Patent number: 6305285Abstract: In a high speed sheet printing or coating machine there is a tendency for the sheets to move about as they are being fed to the datum stops, so that precise registration is not achieved. This is remedied by exerting a damping force which pulls each sheet continuously towards a fixed support surface 12 before and during registration and during printing or coating. The damping force comprises vacuum and/or magnetic forces which settle each sheet rapidly on the fixed support surface as it is fed into contact with the datum stops. The vacuum force is provided by drawing air through an array of holes 26 in the fixed support surface into an underlying chamber 24 evacuated through a pipe 28 by a vacuum pump, and is adjustable either by controlling the flow rate through the pump or by controllably venting the chamber or pipe to atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1998Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: Crabtree of Gateshead Ltd.Inventor: Andrew Steven

Patent number: 5410958Abstract: A process is provided for printing fabric, including fabric used in the making ties and other clothing articles. The process includes the step of stabilizing the fabric so that it can be subjected to printing processes without the degree of fabric deformation that would otherwise take place. A backing sheet of kraft paper or other suitable material is used to stabilize the fabric. In one embodiment, the fabric is stabilized so that it can be pulled through a lithographic printing apparatus. Alternatively, the stabilized fabric can be subjected to screen printing processes. The invention is also directed to the stabilized fabric.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1993Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Inventor: Gary D. Sharpe

Patent number: 5402719Abstract: A silk screen work station and clamp mechanism assembly for the precise positioning and support of a work piece comprising a cabinet which has an upper planar work surface with a centrally disposed working area and a pair of compartments below the work area and with cabinet drawers and storage space. The central working area also has a rectangular opening formed therein. The opening has lateral and longitudinal edges. A work plate in a rectangular configuration corresponds to the rectangular opening in the work surface, but slightly smaller lengthwise and width-wise for precise positioning within the opening during operation and use. A pair of spaced parallel lead screws are secured to the under side of the work surface on opposite sides of the opening through bearing members. The bearing members are secured to the under side of the work surface.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1994Date of Patent: April 4, 1995Inventor: Ronald A. Starkweather, Sr.

Patent number: 5394799Abstract: Retaining elements are disclosed for mounting on a platen of an imprinter in order to position and secure an identification band on the platen for an imprinting operation. Each retaining element comprises a base having a planar bottom surface and an upper surface generally parallel with the bottom surface and including a band support portion, an adhesive layer along the bottom surface for securing the retaining elements to the platen, and a cantilevered spring arm secured at one end to the base (and extending over the band support portion of the base). A pair of such elements are affixed in spaced relation on the platen on opposite sides of an imprinting zone so that an identification band can be slipped between the undersides of the spring arms and the support portion of the bases with the imprint-receiving portion of the band traversing the imprinting zone and, preferably, the clasp of the band engaging a side edge of one of the retaining elements.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1993Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Hollister IncorporatedInventors: David D. Patent number: 5247885Abstract: A pallet for supporting shirts for printing over the entire surface of the shirt, particularly including the sleeves. A shirt is telescoped over a thin upper panel whereafter separate sleeve panels mounted to the upper panel are slid outward into the sleeves of the shirt to provide support thereto. With the sleeve panels still maintained outward, the upper panel is then lowered down into abutment with the lower panel to secure the shirt between the upper and lower panels. Lowering of the upper panel with the sleeve panels mounted thereto causes the sleeve panels to be raised so that the pallet forms a generally planar overall surface upon which the shirt is supported and maintained in a stationary position during printing.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1991Date of Patent: September 28, 1993Assignee: Wisconsin Automated Machinery CorporationInventors: Alex Iaccino, Phil Motev, Rick L.
