Abstract: A code applying device is provided which can efficiently manufacture an information recording paper roll having a code relating to the information recording paper. The code applying device includes a tubular body holding section which holds a tubular body and can rotate around an axis; a code forming section forming a code, which expresses specific information, on an end surface of the tubular body held by the tubular body holding section; and a control section rotating the tubular holding section which is holding the tubular body, and applying the code to the end surface of the tubular body along a peripheral direction.
Abstract: A system for detecting overlapped flat objects in a sequence of flat objects have at least one of their edges exposed for viewing as they pass along a feed path. The system includes a sensor for generating a signal in response to detecting a flat object in the feed path and a camera responsive to the signal for capturing a digital image of the exposed edges of the detected flat object in the feed path. A vision system is coupled to the camera for receiving the digital image. The vision system analyzes at least a portion of the image to determine a pixel density variation along a direction perpendicular to the edges and uses the pixel density variation to output an indication of the number of edges in the image.

Abstract: An unintentionally overlapped condition in a paper sheet being transported is detected by making ultrasonic waves incident on its path and detecting a phase difference between the received ultrasonic waves and a predetermined standard phase. For detecting an overlap on the basis of this phase difference, a specified data item on the detected overlap such as a cumulative number of times an overlap has been detected is generated and one of a plurality of preliminarily defined levels corresponding to this specified data item is selected. The selected level is outputted. If the overlap is detected over an entire detection range of the paper sheet from its front edge to the back edge, however, it is concluded that there is no possibility of an unintentional overlap.
Abstract: A cutting machine which dispenses and cuts sheet material includes a carriage on rails for movement parallel to the horizontal rolls carried on a vertical carrousel. The carriage supports a cutting table top and a drive roller at one side for driving the roll of floor covering material on the carrousel in forward direction for feeding the sheet to the table top and in reverse direction for re-winding. A measuring wheel and electric eye for detecting the presence of the material are located on the table top. A sensor is provided to detect if the measuring wheel is de-activated during use. A control unit includes a printer and is arranged to cause measurement and feeding of a measured length of the material which is fed to a re-roller on the carriage.
Abstract: A method for simulating one of a plurality of web-up configurations for a press line in order to provide web length information associated with the selected web-up configuration (32) to a product tracking system (16). The method includes providing a drawing of a press line on a touch screen (24) and pulling a virtual web through the drawing to illustrate a selected web-up configuration (32). Web length information is calculated based on the selected web-up configuration (32) and is communicated to the product tracking system (16).
Abstract: A tape printer in which, if prior to printing, a scale print key is operated, a scale data setting process is carried out to input and establish a plurality of setting data about the scale length, pitch and other print conditions. The scale data setting process is followed by a scale printing process executed in accordance with the setting data. This permits printing of a scale having the designated length and pitch onto the printing tape to include those to which a scaling factor has been applied.
Abstract: A tag size differentiating system for tag printing machines. The system determines the length of tags in a continuous tag web consisting of a series of identical tags having one of a predetermined set of possible lengths. The system includes means for monitoring the distance the continuous tag web is advanced and sensing means for detecting indicia separating the individual tags. The system comprises a CPU and a memory for storing the possible tag lengths. The CPU determines the distance the tag web is advanced form the time and indicia is detected until the next indicia is detected and compares this distance to the possible tag length. Onthe basis of the comparison, the CPU determines the length of the individual tags in the tag web. The system does not begin the length determining process until the indicia at the trailing end of the initial tag is detected to prevent erroneous length measurements.
Abstract: Printing apparatus which receives printing stock in roll form, withdraws a predetermined amount of material from the roll, cuts the withdrawn material to provide a sheet of stock for printing, and then feeds the sheet to a printer. The printing apparatus can overprint onto sheets which are cut from a roll of preprinted stock, or can print on sheets which are measured and cut from blank roll stock. When used with preprinted stock including a printed material code, the printing apparatus reads the material code to verify that the proper printing stock is being used, and automatically interrupts the printing operation if the proper stock is not present.
