Bed-and-platen Machines Patents (Class 101/78)
  • Patent number: 8708022
Abstract: A label peeling unit having an installation body: a movable body movable while engaging with the installation body and stopping in a closed state or an open state in which the movable body is closed or open relative to the installation body; a label peeling body installed on the movable body and allowing backing paper of a continuous label body, which is conveyed by the paper sheet conveyance device, to be in contact with the label peeling body to bend the backing paper for peeling a part of a label off the backing paper; and a backing paper conveyance roller rotatably installed on the movable body and rotating while being in contact with a platen roller of the paper sheet conveyance device with the backing paper in between to thereby convey the backing paper and discharge it to the outside. The label peeling unit facilitates loading of paper sheets.

  • Patent number: 7331728
Abstract: A printer includes a print head for printing on a print medium and a platen which supports the print medium, and is located opposite to the print head. The print head is linearly moved along the print medium. The platen includes first and second end portions and an intermediate portion, and is formed of material having stiffness. The first and second end portions are located at respective ends of the platen in the moving direction of the print head, and the intermediate portion is located between the first and second end portions. The first and second end portions are supported by respective spring members, such that they can be elastically displaced in a direction toward or away from the print head. The intermediate portion is formed to be more easily warped than the first and second end portions.

  • Patent number: 5761996
Abstract: In a pivoting time recorder, an inner frame is erected from a base. A printer assembly interfaces with the inner frame at a pivot. The pivot and printer assembly are suspended over the base, forming a slot for insertion of a document therebetween. The printer assembly includes a barrel cam having a protrusion adapted to interface with a cam follower integrated on the inner frame for raising and lowering the printer relative to the base about the pivot. The barrel cam induces axial movement in a programmable printer adapted to be driven by the barrel cam. A motor rotates the barrel cam for moving the printer axially and for raising and lowering the printer assembly relative to the base. The present invention operates with very little movement--only 2.degree. of rotation about the pivot point, resulting in a more reliable design having a lower manufacturing cost in comparison to time recorders of the prior art.

  • Patent number: 5325773
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a low cost postage value generating apparatus wherein the number of postage imprints are determined rather than an accounting of the postage value. The apparatus has two movable print heads each having a single value font. This device is able to print multi-values by using multiple impressions of the two print heads. Because of this, the number of imprints gives a representation of the total postage value dispensed.

  • Patent number: 5048414
Abstract: Described herein is an automatic stamper for imprinting desired letters or characters on documents, which is of the type including a printing block having a plural number of stamp units mounted around the circumference of a drum, a support frame rotatably and detachably supporting the printing block, and a base structure having a document support surface and supporting thereon the support frame movably for a reciprocal movement toward and away from the document support surface. The stamp units are detachably mounted on stamp support surfaces on and around the circumferences of the drum such that the longitudinal axes of the respective stamp units are disposed parallel with the axis of the drum for the sake of compact construction, while the support frame is automatically driven from an electric motor which is adapted to be closed upon setting a document on the document support surface.

  • Patent number: 4579054
Abstract: This invention relates to a stand-alone electronic mailing machine that includes a postage metering device. The invention has particular utility when utilized in a mailing machine of the reciprocating platen type. The entire drive mechanism, setting mechanism, and control devices as well as the postage metering mechanisms are all contained in one housing so that there is no need for a separate base. In the mailing machine of this invention, a single central processing unit is utilized along with memory for the purpose of accounting for the postage value that has been charged into the mailing machine as well as the amount that has been used. Non-volatile memory is provided for permanent storage in case of power failure. A pair of stepper motors is used for the purpose of adjusting the print dies with the amounts that are to be imprinted. One of the stepper motors is also used to trip a single revolution clutch which is utilized to affect the printing operation.

  • Patent number: 4523523
Abstract: An electronically controlled mailing machine is provided which includes a housing having a slot into which an envelope may be inserted, a platen movably connected to said housing, a print head overhanging said platen, and structure for moving the platen into engagement with an envelope inserted into the slot for urging the envelope into imprinting engagement with the print head. In addition there is provided a computer, for controlling the platen moving means, and switching apparatus including a member movably connected to the housing and extending into said slot for movement by an envelope inserted into the slot. The switching apparatus includes an optical sensing device mounted within the housing and electrically connected to the computer. The sensing device is responsive to movement of the member for signalling the computer. And the computer is responsive to the signalling for causing the platen moving structure to move the platen.
