Abstract: A printing unit drive apparatus for a rotary press which includes a single or plural printing units and a single or plural folding units. The drive apparatus includes a motor capable of driving a driven portion of each unit, a connection mechanism for drivingly connecting the motor with the driven portion, and a brake mechanism and a reduction gear mechanism disposed in the connection mechanism. All or some of the motors are selectively combined and operated in a synchronized manner. When supply of electricity to the motors is stopped, the motors stop simultaneously without continuing their independent inertial rotation.
Abstract: This invention describes a control mechanism for an electric main drive of a printing machine, whereby the electric main drive operates with a motor, a brake and a tachometer generator. The machine control of the control mechanism is connected to a multiplicity of signal transmitters (pushbuttons). The signal transmitters detect the machine state to ensure that the printing machine does not run at an excessively high speed. For this purpose, the invention outlines, in addition to the machine control, a monitoring device which detects the switching states of the signal transmitters, forms a highest possible permitted speed therefrom and compares this value with the actual speed value delivered by the tachometer generator. The electric main drive is shut down as soon as the actual speed value overshoots this upper limit.

Abstract: Safety device for control or regulation systems of drive units of a printing machine having at least individual sub-aggregates thereof mechanically disconnected from one another, a plurality of motors connected via respective gear transmissions to the sub-aggregates for driving them in synchronous rotation, at least one measuring device for ensuring synchronous running of the sub-aggregates, and a device for controlling the rotary speed or the torque of the motors connected to the measuring device, further includes a clutch disposed between the gear transmissions of two of the at least individual sub-aggregates located adjacent one another, the clutch having clutch halves respectively connected to a synchronously running gearwheel of the respective gear transmissions, the clutch halves being connected to one another for transmitting torque when a preset rotational-angle difference between the clutch halves is exceeded.
Abstract: Safety system for a printing machine having at least one machine drive, a brake device and an electronic control system therefor. The electronic control system has power control stages which permit electronic braking of the drive assembly, and a monitoring circuit, to which can be fed nominal and actual values of the speed of the drive assembly, and which actuate the brake device in the case of impermissibly high deviation between a nominal value and an actual value. Accelerations and decelerations necessary in the operation of the printing machine are achieved by suitable control of the respective machine drive.
