Patent number: 8201500Abstract: A powder charged rock cracker cartridge (1) comprises a substantially cylindrical outer sleeve (2) with an end wall in a first end (3); a plug (4) which, enclosing said outer sleeve, is inserted into and is secured in an opposite second end of the outer sleeve; a main chamber (5) in the outer sleeve (2) between said end wall and said plug, which main chamber is filled with a blasting powder charge (6); a substantially cylindrical inner sleeve (7), which is coaxial with the outer sleeve (2), is connected to said plug, and extends into the charge of blasting powder in the main chamber; and a central through hole (8) in said plug which communicates with the inner sleeve, which is closed in its inner end, which is inserted into the blasting powder charge. The hole in the plug and the inner sleeve in combination form a priming chamber (9) having a shape corresponding to the outer shape of a detonator (10), which can be trigged electrically and comprises an igniting powder charge.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2009Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Inventor: Jan-Åke Bengtsson

Patent number: 8186435Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus and methods to stimulate subterranean production and injection wells, such as oil and gas wells, utilizing rocket propellants. Rapid production of high-pressure gas from controlled combustion of a propellant, during initial ignition and subsequent combustion, together with proper positioning of the energy source in relation to geologic formations, can be used to establish and maintain increased formation porosity and flow conditions with respect to the pay zone.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2011Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Inventor: Dale B. Seekford

Patent number: 7828051Abstract: An improved perforating gun having a tubular housing, a tubular carrier and a charge carried by the tubular carrier. The tubular carrier comprises an inside diameter, an outside diameter and an opening disposed between the inside diameter and the outside diameter. The charge comprises a forward end positioned in the opening between the inside diameter and the outside diameter. The tubular carrier increases a collapsible-pressure rating for the housing and positions the charge closer to the formation.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2007Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventor: Jerry L. Walker

Patent number: 7698982Abstract: A pipe severing tool is arranged to align a plurality of high explosive pellets along a unitizing support structure whereby all explosive pellets are inserted within or extracted from a tubular housing as a singular unit. Electrically initiated exploding wire detonators (EBW) are positioned at opposite ends of the tubular housing for simultaneous detonation by a capacitive firing device. The housing assembly includes a detachable bottom nose that permits the tool to be armed and disarmed without disconnecting the detonation circuitry. Because the tool is not sensitive to stray electrical fields, it may be transported, loaded and unloaded with the EBW detonators in place and connected.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2006Date of Patent: April 20, 2010Assignee: Titan Specialties, Ltd.Inventor: William T. Publication number: 20090200009Abstract: A perforating gun having a charge case with a boss element partially circumscribing Optionally the pair of bosses may be included that are substantially symmetric about the axis of the charge case. Forming a shaped charge with such a charge case allows for gun strips to be formed with increased web material between adjacent shape charges in the gun strips. The increased web material provides for a more structurally sound gun tube, especially when dealing with high density charges. Notches may be provided in the gun tube on the outer radius of the holes formed to receive the shape charges, the notches are to be aligned with the bosses on the outer periphery of the shaped charge case. This also may orient the charge cases so they are pre-aligned for ready connection to an associated detonation cord.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2008Publication date: August 13, 2009Inventors: John D. Loehr, Patrick R. Markwardt
