  • Patent number: 6214140
Abstract: As has been established, the use of energetic materials, generated by manufacturer's excess and/or demilitarization projects, as ingredients in commercial blasting explosives is a feasible and environmentally acceptable method of handling them. Ammonium picrate is used as an explosive charge in the manufacturing of conventional ammunition rounds, such as large caliber navy guns. The present invention is directed to the use of recovered ammonium picrate in commercial blasting agent compositions, that include watergel slurries, ANFO, HANFO-blends and emulsion based blasting agents. These new blasting agents exhibit favorable cost for performance characteristics and have found a use for recovered ammonium picrate, which would heretofore have been incinerated or otherwise disposed of at significant cost.

  • Patent number: 5739461
Abstract: A pistol style flare launcher device suitable for multiple launches of flares uses an orifice in a gas duct to control the burn rate of blank cartridges by predictable high back pressure and a deflector pin in the launcher barrel to block gas from said orifice from striking the flare and deflect the gas into a plenum which allows gas to expand to a lower pressure still suitable to launch the flare.

  • Patent number: 5691500
Abstract: A remotely-actuated fireworks launcher apparatus includes a housing assembly, a signal receiver housed within the housing assembly, an ignition servo electrically connected to the signal receiver and housed with the housing assembly, and a servo-actuated ignition switch operated by the ignition servo. The servo-actuated ignition switch is in an ignition circuit which also includes an electric igniter assembly, and a power supply. A fireworks receiver assembly is attached to the electric igniter assembly. The fireworks receiver assembly receives a fireworks device that is ignited by the electric igniter assembly. A manually operated ignition signal transmitter is actuated to transmit signals for activation of the signal receiver. The servo-actuated ignition switch includes a first switching element operated by the ignition servo and a second switching element selectively connected to or disconnected from the first switching element.

  • Patent number: 4729316
Abstract: A projectile comprises a pyrotechnic charge and a mobile member inside the projectile which rotates between a safe position and an armed position. At least part of a pyrotechnic delay device is accommodated in a passage in this mobile member. The pyrotechnic charge is initiated via this pyrotechnic delay device. The passage is oriented so as to isolate functionally the pyrotechic delay device from the pyrotechnic charge when the mobile member is in the safe position. It functionally couples the pyrotechnic delay device to the pyrotechnic charge when the mobile member is in the armed position. The projectile further comprises an arrangement on the mobile member and on the projectile to guide relative rotation between them about an axis fixed relative to the mobile member and relative to the projectile. A mechanical arming device retains the mobile member in the safe position and against rotation about the aforementioned axis relative to the projectile at least until the projectile is fired.

  • Patent number: 4724765
Abstract: A projectile has a central part relative to the longitudinal direction of the projectile which is the direction in which it is fired. The projectile contains a pyrotechnic charge in the form of two identical operational charges. These are offset longitudinally relative to the central part of the projectile and symmetrically disposed one on each side of this central part. The projectile further contains a device for initiating the pyrotechnic charge subject to a time-delay. This device is accommodated in the central part of the projectile and adapted to initiate the two operational charges simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4722278
Abstract: A cartridge comprises a longitudinal tube having a transverse open end. A projectile is accommodated in and can slide longitudinally inside the tube. The projectile is ejected from the tube through the open end by sliding longitudinally relative to the tube. There is a pyrotechnic charge in the projectile. A device for securing delayed initiation of this charge comprises a fuse, a percussion member in the projectile movable between a retracted position in which it is removed from the fuse and a striking position in which it strikes the fuse, a device adapted to hold the percussion member temporarily in its retracted position and complementary mechanical devices on part of the projectile and part of the tube facing the path followed by this part of the projectile as it is ejected.

  • Patent number: 4651648
Abstract: A pyrotechnic, aircraft carried bomb such as a smoke bomb, illumination b, flare bomb and the like. The bomb comprises detachable delay and nose sections and two main body sections separable from each other and each holding a pyrotechnic charge. The tail section houses a braking parachute which is deployed by the action of a time fuze upon release from the carrier aircraft. The tail and nose sections further house each a main parachute associated each with one of the main body sections. After a certain delay the deployed braking parachute starts an ignition train which causes ejection of the tail and front sections, deployment of the main parachutes, separation of the two main body sections from each other and ignition of the pyrotechnic charges therein. The two main body sections parachute down and reach the ground in soft landing with the pyrotechnic charges burning during the descent and, if desired, they may be arranged to continue to burn for a while after landing, e.g. in case of a smoke bomb.
