  • Patent number: 5568771
Abstract: A detachable grip of a gondola lift or chairlift has a movable jaw urged towards a fixed jaw by a pair of compression springs. The movable jaw is rigidly secured to one end of an operating lever, which pivots in a vertical plane containing the grip body to control the opening or closure onto the cable of the jaws. One end of the springs is secured near the free end of the operating lever, opposite to the movable jaw, and the other end of the springs is secured near the fixed jaw. The mutual distance of the spring ends near the fixed jaw is higher than the mutual distance of the spring ends near the the free end of the operating lever, so that the springs are twice inclined with respect to the grip body.

  • Patent number: 5452662
Abstract: A device for coupling a ferry, such as a gondola or chair, to the hoisting r load cable of an overhead cableway system includes a clamping body with rollers. A first clamping jaw is rigidly secured. A second clamping jaw can be swiveled relative to the first clamping jaw. The second clamping jaw is located on one end of a two-armed clamping lever on whose other end a control element, such as a cam roller, is provided. When the control elements cooperates with an actuator, such as a cam rail, the clamping lever is pivoted relative to the clamping body counter to the action of at least one torsion spring. That pivoting causes the second clamping jaw to reach its open position. A toggle joint or elbow joint is provided which connects the torsion spring with the clamping lever.

  • Patent number: 4860664
Abstract: An aerial tramway grip assembly (21) including a gripping head (24) carrying a pair of opposed movable jaws (26, 27) for gripping a haul rope (23) and a resilient biasing assembly (37) biasing the jaws (26, 27) towards a closed position. The improvement in the grip assembly (21) is comprised of two pairs of opposed stationary gripping surfaces (41,42,43,44) positioned proximate the jaws (26,27) and positioned to cooperate with an opposed one of the jaws (26,27) to grip the haul rope (23) therebetween in the event of release of the gripping force provided by the other jaw. Additionally, resilient biasing is provided by two independent rubber blocks or cylinders (38,39) which bias each jaw (26,27) toward an opposed jaw and toward the opposed stationary gripping surface (41-44). The stationary gripping surfaces (41-44) additionally are oriented to be gravity biased into wedging engagement with the haul rope (23) so as to grip the haul rope (23) even in the event of failure of the movable jaws (26,27).

  • Patent number: 4658733
Abstract: A haul rope grip assembly for an aerial tramway is disclosed which is suitable for both detachable and permanent gripping of the tramway haul rope. The assembly includes a gripping head having a pair of relatively spaced apart converging haul rope gripping surfaces oriented for gravity biasing of the surfaces into wedging engagement with the haul rope under loading of the grip. Additionally, the assembly includes a jaw positioned proximate the surfaces and formed to apply supplemental force to the haul rope in a direction tending to further wedge the haul rope between the gripping surfaces. The jaws are also formed to unwedge the haul rope upon movement from a closed to an open position. In the detachable grip assembly, a pair of independently movable jaws pivotally mounted and actuated by levers are biased closed with leaf springs that are spaced apart to allow for a hold down sheave.

  • Patent number: 4633783
Abstract: On the main shaft (2) of a clamping device (1), a guide-pulley (14) is provided. At the end of the main shaft, an inner clamping jaw (3) is rotatably mounted. An outer clamping jaw (7) is hinged to the inner clamping jaw (3) and connected rotation-fast to an upper frame part (6) of the clamping device. On the outer clamping jaw (7), a stop component (9) is provided. For opening the clamping jaws (3, 7), an actuating roller (10) is pressed downward, the outer clamping jaw being brought into a lower position against the pressure of a spring (21) disposed on the main shaft (2). Simultaneously the inner clamping jaw (3) rotates about the swivel joint (11) situated at the end of the main shaft (2). For closing the clamping jaws, the actuating roller (10) is moved back into its upper position. The clamping device, especially for use in cableways, requires only a few parts, which are suitable as modules both for single and for multiple couplings.

  • Patent number: 4441430
Abstract: Aerial monocable chairlift or gondola lift having detachable grips for coupling the chairs or gondolas to the continuously moving cable. Each grip, in the form of a plier, has a pair of jaws, the outer profile of the jaws being so designed that the grip passes on support sheaves, hold down sheaves and horizontal wheels in the station. The clamping coil spring is inserted between the ends of the plier levers and extends substantially parallel to the hanger bar articulated on the grip body. A grip operating roller opens the jaws at a platform in the station and the speed of the chair is reduced for loading and/or unloading of the passengers before the grip is again coupled to the cable.
