Patent number: 8590459Abstract: The bogie of variable rail gauge comprises two lateral carrier mountings (1;2) with two wheels (1?, 1?, 2?, 2?) independent of each others, which lean one against the other, forming between them an articulation (3) allowing a variation of the rail bogie in sliding between the traverses forming part of the two lateral carrier mountings (1;2), entirely, allowing anytime a relative rotation or tipping, respectively, between the traverses (2;3) in the vertical planes of the wheels.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2009Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Compagnie du Chemin de fer Montreux-Oberland Bernois SAInventors: Jean-Marc Forclaz, Cedric Giller

Patent number: 8397643Abstract: An apparatus for removing a wheelset from a railroad vehicle includes a frame configured for motion with respect to the railroad vehicle. The apparatus also includes a lifting yoke cooperatively associated with the frame. The yoke is configured to engage flanges of the wheelset. The apparatus further includes at least one lifting screw interposed between the frame and the lifting yoke, such that upon rotation of the at least one lifting screw, the yoke may be raised and lowered to selectively engage the flanges of the wheelset. A “universal” lifting yoke can include a first portion which engages the at least one lifting screw, a set of extendable transverse members having outward ends, and flange-engaging blocks secured to the outward ends of the extendable transverse members and configured to engage the flanges of the wheelset.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2011Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Macton CorporationInventors: Albert Esposti, Stanislaw Kostrzewski, Thomas Hannon, Thomas E. Patent number: 6457419Abstract: A train axle system with movable wheels, comprising an axle whose necks, where the wheels are positioned, are provided with a toothing formed with straight teeth having axial generators, the inner part of the wheel hubs having a similar toothing so that the rotating wheel is joined to the axle when it occupies positions corresponding to two track gauges, the axial blocking of the wheel being carried out by means of an outer locking bolt, there being attached to the end of the axle an external bearing (1) which supports the vertical load through a supporting part, the hub of the wheel (R) having a tubular extension with a central roller bearing (3) and two axial bearings (4), there being attached on the central bearing (3) a part (5) with protuberances (6) which assist in immobilising the wheel in each track gauge.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2000Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: Patentes Talgo, S.A.Inventors: José Luis Lopez Gomez, Julio Frutos Aguado, José Borrajo Mora

Patent number: 5655456Abstract: A variable wheel-spacing truck includes a pair of left and right bogie frames which are transversely movable relative to each other and can be fixedly connected with each other by releasable locking devices. At least one of the wheels is slidable relative to the wheel shaft in an axial direction of the shaft. When the truck moves from one railway onto a junction railway of a different track gauge, running paths push auxiliary wheels of the locking devices upwards to release the locking devices. When the truck moves through the junction railway section, a pair of guide rails or a pair of rails push the wheels of the truck, thereby laterally shifting the left and right bogie frames relative to each other. After a predetermined relative transverse movement of the bogie frames and wheels is completed, the running paths lower the auxiliary wheels of the locking devices, thereby activating the locking devices into a locking condition.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1996Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: Kawasaki Jukogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Sunao Sugimoto, Mitsuji Yoshino, Noboru Kobayashi

Patent number: 5471933Abstract: A variable wheel-spacing truck is equipped with axle boxes slidably mounted on axles extending between side beams of a bogie frame. Axle box receivers are selectively and releasably connected with the axle boxes at a plurality of predetermined positions by locking members. When the truck is moved from a first railway to a junction railway, auxiliary wheels mounted on the axle box receivers engage with running paths and raise the truck and a vehicle body except the wheel sets and release a locked condition by the locking members. When the truck is moved through a region where the track gauge of the junction railway is changing or where the spacings of inside or outside guide rails is changing, the wheels are pushed by a pair of guide rails or a pair of junction railway rails and shifted transversely together with the axle boxes relative to the axle.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1993Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: Kawasaki Jukogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Mitsuji Yoshino, Sunao Sugimoto, Noboru Kobayashi

Patent number: 4505630Abstract: Apparatus and methods for transferring articles, such as concrete blocks, from a conveyor to a curing kiln and return comprise a carriage movable along a path leading from the block conveyor to any selected one of a number of curing kilns. The carriage supports a rotary turntable on which is mounted a transfer vehicle provided with article supporting forks that are vertically movable so as to shift articles off and onto the block conveyor, deposit the articles within the kiln, and retrieve the articles from the kiln. the transfer vehicle is movable horizontally relatively to the turntable to enable the article supporting forks to overlie the block conveyor, and the transfer vehicle also is movable horizontally relatively to the turntable and carriage into and out of the selected kiln.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1983Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Besser CompanyInventors: William C. Kaschner, Elroy Bobolts, Jr.
